Gijs A. Verdoes Kleijn: Information expiration and Near- Earth objects
This presentation provides a perspective of Earth on being an information gathering spaceship moving through the Universe. Large astronomical imaging surveys of stars and galaxies are a prime example of such information gathering. We present how information systems at Kapteyn-OmegaCEN at the University of Groningen are used to detect serendipitously Near-Earth Objects in such surveys. Determining which of these objects pose a hazard for life on Earth involves the linking of our information to information in various other information systems.

    @9:00 entropy does not cause these forces. Electromagnetism is causing the polymer to contract and thermal energy permits it to transition through a few energy barriers. Same with his "entropic gravity". He seems to have taken a few too many LSDs and really swallowed holism and emergence memes. It is not that these notions have no place in scientific explanations, but you have to be careful about what is fundamental and what truly is a more collective phenomenon that cannot be reduced to Hamiltonian time evolution. There are few such systems in nature, that are genuinely _strongly_ emergent, and perhaps only one known to us. (!)

    It seems that Eric Verlinde is on the right track to explain the universe as an expanding entity without the need for a big bang, if he can show that it's missing entropy (as calculated from quantum mechanics) can be shown to be due to emergent gravity, and that the energy associated with it can eliminate the need for dark dark energy and that the accelerations associated with emerging gravity can eliminate the need for dark matter. If he does he can expect a Nobel prize in the future. It sounds like he's ahead of Sir Roger Penrose (anti-de sitter space) and Neil Turok in that they are still looking for something that will eliminate the need for the big bang. I wish him well and will be following the progress he and other physicists working in the same direction are making.

      Verlinde calculates everything in spheres of symmetry, and there are no predictions for the non-spherical cases that occur primarily in space. The observed pink filaments and walls of dark matter are completely beyond the reach of Verlinde's gravity at this time. The second problem is the holographic principle itself, for which it is not at all clear whether it applies, and if so, where is the "magical" projection surface. It would be most logical to identify it with string world planes, but there is no evidence yet in favor of string theory

    By the way, this can be generalized to the case where you're optimizing a set of n vectors under the constraint that they're orthonormal. Then you compute all the gradients, project the resulting search vector onto the tangent surface by orthogonalizing all the gradients to all the vectors, and then diagonalize the matrix of scalar products between pairs of the gradients to find a coordinate system in which the gradients pair up with the vectors to form n hyperplanes in which you can rotate while exactly satisfying the constraints and still travelling in the direction of maximal change to first order; the angles by which you rotate in the hyperplanes are multiples of a single parameter (with the multipliers determined by the eigenvalues), so this is again reduced to a one-dimensional search.

But explaining the universe as a model of computation makes so much more sense, and aligns with other cosmologies so much easier then the standard model of physics.     I need to review your presentation more closely, but this is easily one of the most interesting hypotheses I've seen in many years. I especially like your focus on finite-first physics since so much of our math is based on infinitely detailed, energy-indifferent generalizations of phenomena from _classical_ physics. One issue that came to mind, but which I did not immediately see, is: How do you approach the wave collapse issue?

      The interaction among quantum states (and detectors) happens by exchanging quanta of information (I.e. “tesserats”). This allows to treat interactions and measurements in a way that can account for the actual information that is exchanged. Being the real-space ontological wave function a projection from the reciprocal (non-local) information space, there is no mystery in non-locally collapsing the wave function when the underlying information spectra is changed by a measurement/interaction process. In a similar way as an hologram would project a much different pattern everywhere as soon as some of its generating components are modified. The wave function just lost (or gained) a piece of information. Then the question becomes how instant is the exchange of physical information among quantum states? The phase locking (entanglement) process + quantization in pi/2 may suggest that it can take some time (eg. 1/4 oscillation period) to de-phase a quanta into another state. That would set a maximum bound on the actual “computation speed” vs the natural frequency of the carrying mode. Eg. In the double slit experiment when interference is mysteriously removed by a detector behind one slit even though the particle does not pass by that slit. Now, from the perspective of objective physical information it becomes obvious that the detector keeps measuring physical-information and thus keeps collapsing the wave function. We simply instructed the detector to “throw all information away and only amplify the information about the particle passing”.

I recall playing around for a while with wave collapse as a cooperative phase shift of the Fourier momentum components, so I get the reciprocal space advantage… though a bit-like reciprocal space is… interesting, hmm. Your “tesserats” [1] remind me of quaternions, but maybe more of the various roots of 1 and -1 one can construct using small binary matrices. I’m inclined to assume they are such matrices? I'll read more and watch your video a lot more closely. [1] Naming: “tesserat” is so close to “tesseract” that it’s hard to spot the letter deletion near the end. For the same reason, my spell checker keeps flagging it. Also worth mentioning: “rat” as a final syllable in English almost exclusively means the rodent. Tesserit? Tesserbit? Tessrit? Tessbit? Hmm.     Serious shortcoming in this discussion. To quote R. Penrose, "Consciousness is non computational". A donkey can be categorized as something in physical space. We can approach our knowledge of the donkey only in increments lasting an infinity of time since the entire universe is embedded in any part within it. Thus, we are looking for an object "in-itself", but there's only one way to reach the limit of "turtles-all-the-way-down" (by tapping into and merging with Pure Consciousness Itself Without-an-Object). This can be done by transcending the realm of computation and thought. Access "Mahamritunjaya mantra - Sacred Choir" and listen to it for 5 min per day for at least two weeks. This is a door between physical and branching space that takes us beyond the realm of both. In that realm, you will realize the ultimate Substance of the universe: Pure Consciousness or Brahman. The whole universe is That Ground of Pure Being, Sat-Chit-Ananda..

    Interesting. Definitely a genius. There must be a concept for computational restraints on the universe itself and as described it has to have something to do with C. That is one of the most amazing results of this experiment. The math seems to be hard to find right now, but hopefully that will change in the future. The emergent properties could simply be a byproduct of the assumption of space acting as particles. It is almost surely the case, or otherwise the old idea of ether would not be revisited. I think the math must prove sufficiently enough that the emergent properties related to qt and gr are not related to the basic geometry of the hyper-graph that results. Basically if I turn the cartesian coordinate system into a hyper graph, then I will have general relativity in there too. The geometry must be emergent itself. Cheers to this man that has strained his brain enough to model a system that I have always wanted to make for myself but did not have the technical requirements to do so.

      Well, it really depends on your definition of "universe"; it can either refer to the actual content and the self-emergent restraints that apply to that content, in which case you're correct, such restraints must exist by definition, by sheer metaphysical necessity. However, if you talk about the completely boundless state out of which everything emerges, which can also aptly be referred to by the term "universe", then it's incorrect, because that state by definition does not have any constraints whatsoever, it's essentially a state of pure potential where all possibilities exist no matter how contradictory; it's only upon the emergence of certain of those possibilities that the contradictory ones are precluded, in order to keep all content logically coherent.

    Not a new idea, but I think a very compelling one. To dismiss it is to admit to not knowing, imo. I consider it a chicken and egg problem. If we take something as conceptually simple as magnetic force, attraction and repulsion, we can inquire as to the origin of the rule. It seems counterintuitive to believe the rules of organization arose from a chaos of charged and neutral particles. To posit the rules that govern the organization of atomic and molecular structures from a chaos of particles could be seen to hint at the scientific blasphemy of design.

      i think there was another video where he make a demonstration with polymer rubber showing that it behaves differently if hit hard on the ground or put slowly. i think he was trying to show that same stuff will produce dark energy and gravity at the same time.

    the relationship between a homogeneous system, and heterogenous system, which are two contradictory states of a system, are equivalent through transformations occurring over time, making it possible to connect them through a kind of Noether's Theorm, and isomorphism. Just imagine an all white (homogenous) 10x10 grid, and a random (heterogenous)10x10 grid. To go from one state to the other, requires a transformation or a rule that the pixels in the grid follow to get to the next state. Since any state can potentially take only 1 transformation (a transform that requires 100 simultaneous operations), then it is one such hard proof that there is a universality between all the possible permutations of states. Time becomes the variable, rather then the system. The system is "the same" just being transformed over time. You can then generically classify that relationship as "system evolution" Another thing : Universal Heat Death is fundamentally flawed for the following reason. There exists no system that can actually be at an equilibrium that doesn't exhibit a structured predictable pattern, meaning there will always exist information, and the question is at what scale can that information actually be utilized, by an observer that is comparable to the scale of the system. Let's just assume that the universe were made of 0's and 1's. a truly random string of 0's and 1's : 00111101101000101 obviously has some structure. There are a series of predictable patterns (1111, 000, 101) meaning this random string of numbers is not devoid of information. it ALWAYS has information. If you take every computational bit to be unique (DEFKMABLGHJIN etc...), then the information content is not only always there, but it is maximal at all times...because in a random string of symbols, there are no symbols it can relate to based on repeatability, then what gives context to what symbols mean, are what symbols they are next to. In that above sequence, "K" means nothing to the letter "D" until "D" recognizes that K is next to the letters F and M... So when D asks a question about F, he knows that K is next to F. Based on the connection between each unique element, then observers of this universe will interpret it exactly as that, based on it's relationship structure in this case how it's orientation in space relative to one another...K is next to M, M is next to A and so on...and this means something for observers in the universe, just at a scale that encompasses the entire universe. It's likely that, the universe is like the second case, where all computational elements are unique, like in the wolfram model of physics. In such a universe, "heat death" doesn't really have a meaning because the universe is always at a maximal state of information, and in some sense you can't interfere with that. It's like...You can move letter B next to letter E, so that the new sequence is DBEFKMALGHJIN...the sequence still remains maximally random...but the relationship that B has is changed (It's now next to D and E instead of A and L), and this matters for the observers in this system. In other words there is ALWAYS a conservation law of the information, energy and whatever at any given configuration of this universe and its the observers in that universe that are deciding exactly what the "state" of the universe is. **In both scenarios Heat Death does not truly exist in any information theoretic sense. Folks assume that equilibrium, where the universe is maximally homogeneous at all scales is the same as heat death, but this is not true... like shown above, maximal randomness always has by just virtue of statics, patterns...and in the opposing case where the universe is made of unique elements, then it is ALWAYS at maximal information content which doesn't undergo Heat Death.**
