AEW wrestling mentions Surfer Ray Odyssey vs Taz feud 30 years later
Переглядів 169Рік тому
During the Chris Jericho/Sammy Guevara vs Bryan Danielson/Claudio Castagnoli match, one of the commentators says this reminds him of the Surfer Ray Odyssey vs Tazmaniac match from years ago. Taz laughs and says, yeah, just a lot less people in the crowd. Pretty cool to remember an IWCCW feud from 30 years ago

ICW Pool Party part 2
Переглядів 6178 років тому
ICW TV 1990. The SOS Express along with Bob Dow have a pool party. The SOS Express in ICW was Steamboat, Odyssey, Sbraccia. Some clips of ICW matches are shown also. Part 2 of 3. Tony Rumble and the Undertakers spoil the party in part 3 but unfortunately, the footage was taped over and I don't have the rest of the show. The full hour of this ICW show is very rare. A lot of ICW tv footage was lo...

This looks like Dover, New Hampshire.
I still have my ticket stubs I had as a kid and lots of pics from these shows this place was a ten min walk from our house
The legendary Joe McHugh as the ring announcer.
Brian Webster on commentary. Always love Brian's work.
The legendary match.
This was possibly from the February 17, 1993 taping at Kutsher's Country Club in the Catskills in Monticello, NY
This is early 1991 after the name change (1/12/1991). Vic Steamboat is referenced as the champ and he lost the title on 4/19/1991. Most likely from February 1991
This was early 1990. The end says "coming soon to ICW, Joe Cool". He debuted on the March 10, 1990 TV show.
This appears to be early 1993?
This aired on the July 7, 1990 episode of ICW TV. Ray Odyssey pool side interview "Surfer" Ray Odyssey v The Mad Russian (with Mad Russian #2) from 6/2/1990 TV Ray Odyssey pool side interview Eric Sbracchia pool side interview Super Duper Mario entrance for match vs Brian Fortune shown Eric Sbracchia pool side interview G.Q. Madison named Wrestler of the Month by the Teen Report Vic Steamboat pool side interview (end cut off)
I believe this aired on June 30, 1990 Poolside interview with Vic Steamboat The Undertakers (The Henchman & The Punisher) vs The Wild Bunch (Chief Thunder Mountain & Texas Terminator Hoss) Poolside interview with Vic Steamboat
I feel like this is the first half of 1991? Neither Odyssey or Makumba seem to be recognized as current or former Light Heavyweight Champions. Odyssey had belt in 1991 and Makumba in 1992
1:11 had me thinking that ICW was insane clown posse wrestling
Dude omg I was there. I was 7
lol IS THAT A YOUNG RAVEN?? 1:34

Mr Odyssey. Thank you for sharing these videos. You are such a significant part of wrestling history and I'm glad I stumbled on this page. I remember seeing this on Dark and having no clue what they were joking about but now that I know I have so much respect for you and Taz, your wrestling brother. Hope we get to see you on a Dark one day, if just for history's sake. Respect and Love!
Monster Factory route 30 mall clementon, nj early 90’s
No. Route 30 Mall in Clemonton , NJ
I've probably seen more live Surfer Ray Odyssey matches than those of any other wrestler. It's not because I didn't go to my fair share of big shows (I've been handful of WWF PPV's including WM11, No Way Out 2000, and the 2011 Rumble, over a dozen raw tapings, several dozen house shows including one featuring a rare Warrior Undertaker tag team, and the Nitro when Warrior Debuted...) but from the mid 90's to the early 2000's I went to a ton of New England/North East= indy shows... and for a while, it seemed like I could not escape Surfer Ray and his boogie board, Gidget! ...not that there was anything wrong with that.... actually, I always felt Surfer Ray Odyssey was one of the more talented, fundamentally sound, consistent (and that last part is important... On the Indies, some guys were on point one night, and lackluster the next... Juan Xavier comes to mind in that regard, may he Rest In Peace, but you could always count on Ray to put on a strong showing...) talents on the Indy scene at that period. The dude was on pretty much every Indy Show I went to, whether it be in a High School in Washington, CT at, at a local Armory in Thomaston, or a music hall in Danbury, Ray was always there. Well, looking back in retrospect, I was lucky Ray was there... aside from a Sid, Jim Neidhart, or King Kong Bundy Main Event, a lot of those shows weren't exactly filled with the best talent. If I had to watch one more battle royal featuring Primo Carnera III, I might have stopped watching wrestling! Anyway... Just wanted to thank Surfer Ray Odyssey for making a lot of those indy shows little more entertaining.
Who's Taz partner?
His partner was his cousin Tazmaniac Meko (Joe Chetti).
@@aliciaaffayere3849 Joe Chetti, was he Chris Chetti's brother?
@@jonathanturbide2232 Yes he is.
Such an Awesome win! More please!!!!? Gore did Great too!!
you need a rematch with that beast!
Great match, Ray. You and Taz worked well together. And I never knew Joe McHugh worked for IWCCW.
Shawn moony is dressed like a hamburger
My favorite thing when watching these older territory/independent and fly by night wrestling companies videos, especially of the late 80s-early 2000s when technology was getting better, and the need to make the show quality look better.. Is looking to see who has the best and even more important/fun worst graphics, and just the overall production of it.. Most are basic, but when they decide to try and get cute, its hilariously bad just because of the cheapness and shade tree editors out there during the time.. I grew up in Nashville, so we'd always get local wrestling, with bad TV and I loved trying to keep up with it.. They'd spend all their money on Lawler or whoever, go out of business, and try again.. Plus we had USWA up until late 1997, then it became 2-3 local wrestling shows at a time, Bert Prentice, Mike Porter, whoever else, Gulas.. They'd run shows for a couple months, some longer, run out and someone new or they'd partner up with someone new.. LOL!! It was so carny and I loved it!! I wish a lot more of it was on UA-cam
Make it a passion project.
I found that you defeated Stevie in ECW on July 15, 1994, and Stevie defeated you here in ISPW. Too bad we never got the rubber match. (I was JasonKM on the Kayfabe Memories message boards.)
It's too bad Ray never got a run in a major Company.
I do love me some Surfer Ray Odyssey... King of the east coast independents. I must have seen him live over twenty times. He was on just about every independent wrestling card I went to in Connecticut, Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts back in the mid to late 90's. The dude's an institution in the New England indy wrestling scene.
The unnatural size of his shoulder muscles in ECW is crazy
You can still clearly tell by how big and muscular and how huge his neck is he was on steroids in ECW.
Was this at the Monster Factory?
Surfer .VS. Former Surfer
+RetroCysper: That's what I was thinking, they used to have the same gimmick.
A few weeks later: WWF @ Rochester, NY - War Memorial - August 19, 1991 WWF Superstars taping: Ray Odyssey defeated the Tasmaniac
Its true
Great... a match of pure ability, body and moves not yet corrupted ... love it. A real waste that it could be not this way after, in the Usa Circus of fake
I think he's dead ladies and gentlemen
Surfer Ray Odyssey > Roman Reigns
I guess if the Dynamic Dudes ever needed a third member, they could have given Ray Odyssey a skateboard and he could have fit in with Johnny Ace and Shane Douglas
These were neither "world class" or even "international class" wrestlers
Patricia LAMBERT Taz is.
Too bad surrffer looked like Spike Dudley😂☝
Jeeeezis Xmas benoit/todd/Paul e could have done a better job and you to joeyyy
Nice nerve pinch!
The fast food market?
I will answer this myself Wacky. I remember this well. When I originally shot the promo, I said Taz was following me around at McDonalds. They said cut. Don't say McDonalds. So next take, I said, Taz is following me around at the 7-11. They said cut again. Don't mention a franchise. So next one, I said the Gas and Go. They said cut. Don't say that either. So I was just messing around on the next take and said "fast food market" and they said, that was good. I shook my head and said, really???. The other promos were so much better.
Two of the worst wrestlers I ever saw in this area. At least Sandman had charisma.
Rest In Peace Jimmy SuperFly Snuka.
hmmm
WWE-style ring. XB
Rip the Rabid Wolverine Crippler
No disrespect for the late Chris Candido! But the lesson here is cheaters never prosper. Great match Ray! Surf's up!
Great matches! Any more IWCCW? Full shows?
Chris Benoit is the most believable "undersized" world champ ever. He suspends disbelief so well with his explosiveness and crispness. Its to the point where sometimes I think that he can't be THAT good and is just stiff. Benoit was good in the squared circle, despite everything else.
