Quant Trader runs into insider trading whale
I tell a Wall Street true story about the time I encountered an insider trading whale in my early years as a new quant trader.
We were an options market making trading firm, so it was expected of us to provide liquidity and take the other side of speculator trades at the right price.
However, when a whale is behaving strangely and willing to pile into a position at any price, is there a reason to suspect insider trading?

Exploiting a trading glitch to make millions
Переглядів 35 тис.14 годин тому
I tell a Wall Street true story from my early junior trader days at an options market making proprietary trading firm, where I encountered a situation where a competitor’s market making software had a glitch, and it gave me the opportunity to legally take millions of dollars from him within a narrow timeframe and how much I was ultimately able to extract during that window of time.
Quant reveals how financial news lies
Переглядів 61 тис.21 годину тому
I tell a riveting true story from within a real Wall Street quant trading firm, where an unfortunate incident ends up exposing the true nature of financial news channels and how they lie while covering financial news. Then I expose how shows like Jim Cramer’s Mad Money actually operate, and why they shouldn’t be trusted. Finally, I give closing remarks on how the financial news sector is likely...

How adult relationships are transactional

I explain how relationships (both platonic and romantic) formed in adulthood are often shallow and transactional. I derive the equation needed to score your “value” in the eyes of other adults. Using this equation, you can ascertain whether your value is higher or lower than your peers, and decide on how to improve your score if you want to be treated with more respect by them.

Why I chose quant trading to retire early

I outline my journey into the secretive world of proprietary trading and the hedge fund space, where compensation figures and bonuses are explosive and make all other industries seem sleepy and boring. I go over the cultural nuances of working on “Wall Street” and ultimately why I preferred it over other industries in my decision to pursue early retirement.

How much control do we have over our fate? Do our genetics determine more than our environment? I ponder on these questions and what I believe is the correct way to assign respect to others given we have so little control over our destiny and it takes an incredible amount of grit to pave a new path in life. - References: Rick and Morty’s Roy game: ua-cam.com/video/yN9hNAkjPOk/v-deo.htmlsi=Ks6Nt...

Why FIRE is BS (Financial Independence Retire Early)

As a retired Hedge Fund quant, I believe the FIRE Movement is a scam. The 4% Rule isn’t worth it for most people. Personal Finance gurus always push misinformation about this topic. human beings aren't meant to be sitting in cubicles staring at a small screen trying to figure out what stocks to buy and sell either. we also haven't flown for the majority of human history. times are always changing. also a lot of people may have the impulse to cheat but they choose not to. does that mean they're forcing themselves to be someone they are not? I like to think that we form our identities based on how we act

it's based on your values. would you want to be in a monogamous relationship with someone else? would you like that relationship to be exclusive? then don't cheat regardless of the impulse you get seven years in. and expect the same from your partner. do you need to have an open relationship? then have an open relationship! or just don't marry if you don't want or need that! i agree with you, people need to be original thinkers and truly understand themselves before rushing into marriage.

This gives me time to pursue my passions, and work on my mind and body. Still have no idea what I want to do professionally in life, but I’m pretty happy right now. I also have 400k in the market and that should grow roughly 10% a year, so I feel quite secure for now.

I’m an American white man that’s been called by many a catch myself. I’ve been with white women and Asian women all over the world. A woman looks at a man as a security blanket. Asian women are all about status and money. The divorce rate in the West is actually over 60%. No reason for anybody to get married anymore, especially in the US and in the West. I’d rather be single and have fun with a beautiful woman every now and then with no possibility or a divorce.

We work hard to save , invest and accumulate more and more and more just to worry about keeping it once we have it. This guy is right less is more peaceful. But we do get sucked into worldly life in America. What we call poor living is what other countries would call very comfortable spoiled life. We want bigger, more and we are never satisfied. Well I have a 2008 paid off truck, a rancher paid off home, enough money to pay all my monthly bills, no cable channels just internet, exercise equipment in my basement, a vegetable garden, a/c in the summer heat in the winter Jesus in my life. really nice talking points in the video and enjoyed the casual delivery. I do think the quant field has pierced through to the masses in this day but I think the big asterisk that you didn't touch on is how difficult it is to break into the field, which keeps most people out. respect for making it sound casual but I can obviously sense that you worked hard for it and are ahead of what most have accomplished. to me though, it still seems a bit too tied to performance, and just a bit too high stakes, which kind of explains to me the situation you're presenting yourself in in the video, which isn't a bad place to be in at all, haha. but basically, I mean to say that there is a middle ground within tech at least, where you can be an average* joe schmoe at a 'top' company, stay afloat, experience some natural career progression by one means or another, and basically earn a very very good living doing very little. it's a bit less combustive and more disconnected, but I think a lot of folks find comfort in that. another interesting concept is about diminishing returns of salary increases because of increased taxes and just considering the marginal utility of earning more, when you're talking about the difference between like, 400k vs 500k. many in that position just kind of make up large dollar items to spend it towards, which I've seen myself. but anyways, really jealous that you had a good run in quant, I think that's a huge accomplishment and many fall short before they can reach a sane stopping point.

I understand that many strategies such as high frequency trading and market making are games for institutional quants, but I am currently on a path to study python, employ models such as hidden markov models, and develop my own strategy to exploit a market inefficiency. Do you have any advice on areas to study or areas of math that could be useful (linear algebra etc)? I’m not interested in hearing that this is a futile endeavor. Let me waste my time. I’m really just interested in a true quant’s advice on important areas of study!!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I stumbled across your channel and it has been very hard to stay away. I feel as if you articulate a lot of what goes on inside my head. From the philosophies, to the way that you explain them (quantify them). However, I constantly question whether this component of me is what should be the sole driver of my decisions. In other words, I could completely see myself going down a similar path as you and one day detaching from “The Matrix”. The fear that I have is, by always living my life through this analytical and logical framework, will I feel like I haven’t lived my life to the fullest? This has been a philosophical battle I have been having with myself, especially as of recently.

My only two cents to that equation is that each attribute in the formula has a threshold to meet for the lower coef. attribute to even matter.
