The Shambly Camper
Приєднався 10 лют 2023
Never pay for camping when crown land is so abundant. Welcome to my channel folks! I love backpacking and wilderness camping, especially off-grid camping that doesn't involve getting gouged on fees or encountering ignorant humans. Come along with me on my shambly adventures in the Canadian north. The possibilities are endless!

2 Nights Winter Camping at an Off-Grid Abandoned Saw Mill

I got away for a sweet little 2-nighter and explored the crown land and ski trails near the town of Dorset, Ontario. Mild weather made it possible to camp as normal with just Summer gear. I stumbled upon the ruins of an old saw mill complex and made myself right at home. What a blast!

During a freezing cold and snowy Thanksgiving canoe trip in Northern Algonquin, our group battled the miserable weather by lighting up the night sky with an epic Dippy-Rod!

During an incredible Fall heatwave, I took full advantage and got back out to my favourite backcountry trail for 8 days. Primo crown land campsites and vivid Fall colours combined with summer-like weather made for some of the best camping of my life.
5 Days Solo-Trekking the Ottawa Temiskaming Highland Trail's North Section

Upon the Ontario Government lifting the fire ban on July 11th, naturally I fled the city immediately to where free camping reigns - the endless Crown Land of Northern Ontario. Blueberries were plentiful and the weather was hot for 5 fantastic days while I explored the northern section of the Ottawa Temiskaming Highland trail. This is truly a world class trail, but very rugged and challenging. I...

Part 3 and final installment of the Voyageur series! Armed with a full backpack of provisions after my re-supply, I head east again for the finish. I pass through the sleepy town of Iron Bridge and pick up Chinese food on my way. Part 3 is day 8 thru 11 of the trip. I hope you all enjoyed the series! 2 more hikes/series will be added shortly. I know my film making skills are at best amateur, bu...

Voyageur Trail 2023 part 1. Bruce Mines to Randolph Lake

I spent 11 glorious days and 10 nights exploring the Voyageur trail in Northern Ontario. I started in the town of Bruce Mines and ended just north of Blind River. Total distance approx. 110km (68 miles). I had family in the area on a separate trip so i was lucky enough to have supplies dropped off to me! What a beautiful country! I will almost certainly return next year to do a different sectio...
My mom and I were there ten days before you, saw those cans of ravioli haha. We’re headed back for another 80km in the next couple months.
Best Ravioli I've ever had in my life lol. Happy trails on your hike, just a fantastic trail
Very sorry about what I said about your taking the bark from a standing Birch Tree!!!! When I saw it, I assumed that you had done it to start your fire!!! After having been a BSA Leader for over 20 years, you can see my feelings. The comment about you not being interested in what’s in the buildings, your viewers might be interested. Ya don’t have to enter, but a quick view through an open door or window would be nice!!! Again, sorry for the misunderstanding!!!!! Please except my apologies!!!
Ahh yes. I would agree. Should have filmed inside the structures a little. Still learning the art of story-telling! 100% apology accepted :) and I appreciate the feedback
I certainly hope at ~8:55 17:02 into the video, the Birch Trees we’re not the ones that you got your bark from!!! You should have fire starting material in your pack, it’s called “Being Prepared”!! Part of camping, is to leave NO trace behind!!!! Stripping bark from a standing Birch Tree is NOT THE WAY TO GO😂!!! Just because things aren’t interesting to you, 22:22 that doesn’t mean your viewers aren’t interested!
Anything i burned was from deadfall on the ground. I am well aware and practice "leave no trace" Not sure i understand the comment about not being interested at 22:22, but cheers!
Hey man I’m from North Bay, Ontario and camp as much as I can with my canoe every summer! Would you mind if I asked what lake this was on?
the one you started on with the beautiful sky? 🙏🏼
@@simpleemodern Absolutely! That is Sand Lake just west of highway 35 near Dorset. Happy paddling!
@@TheShamblyCamper thank you so much man! I appreciate that! Maybe someday we cross trails! Excited to see more from you!
Yeaaaaaaaaa bud!
Love the abandoned structure camping. This one's right near the highway too!
Brilliant from one cat lover to another.
He's using you for your VHS collection
That's really funny. I have thousands of VHS LOL
This is incredibly underrated. I am so impressed. One of the most hilariously adorable videos I've ever watched. You have a new sub.
Thank you for the kind words. I will pass them along to my 'roommate' :)
Wtf???? You are the Sociopath! 5 seconds, and it is clear, that you are teasing him! That is so mean! I feel sorry for the cat 😔
The bird was a sandhill crane! Very common up north in the summer. Thanks for these videos, Im also intending to do a longer solo camping stint on the voyageur trail this summer. Thanks for the insight! Never would have thought the water situation would be so bad.
You're welcome and thank you for the kind words. Be careful with your water between Ottertail lake and Randolph lake. Everywhere else water was no issue. Good luck!
Great vid. Seems mostly bug-free or am I dead wrong there (July 11 should be full-on?).
You are correct sir, I got lucky with the bugs. Cool nights and breezy conditions helped a great deal with that. Horse flies were always out immediately after rain
DIPPY ROD!!!
Look at that baby sizzle
Me and my pal ran into you at that table and bench spot 31 minutes in! Happy trails.
The two day hikers doing the cliff loop! I remember! so funny that you found me. I love that trail. Happy New Year my friend.
What access point did you start at?
I started at the trailhead in Latchford (Northern terminus), travelled south roughly 50km and went back to the start
So beautiful! Really makes you want to get out there and into the outdoors. Bravo my friend
