Why mush use water to wash motherboards and power supply ?! Can just use isopropyl alcohol cleaner right don need waith few day
Outstanding work brotha 👍
Thank you
send it to LGR that will be better...
Your Windows 95 system is too old today to have Windows 10;pro and more
Yes it can work if you replace the original motherboard and do a good cleaning recommended
LOL i had one... Kids be like whats that 😂
I admire your determination to restore an old PC with little to no collectible value. Aside from being manufactured by a now defunct and historically significant US computer company, it's merely a Digital branded PC with the same generic hardware found in other machines made in the millions. I purchased a Digital PC server back in the mid-90s at a fire sale after the company closed its doors for good. After a few years, I remember chucking it away and keeping the hard drives.
old stuff gets sick, but never dies
Oh well. All else fails, clean the case up and find a way to put some modern hardware inside
Yes true
This is more of a HowToBasic's take on how to restore a vintage computer case/PC. I genuinely feel sorry for this beautiful machine. So many levels of "wrong"....
Thanks, for your feedback
@@vintagematterquick question why are the computer insides dirty?
😮 Oh. A "digital computer". Thats very rare
Yes don't see many like it now days
Yeh, never knew digital computers existed, this is quite amazing.
@Moonlightshadow-lq4fr yes they were around for a while, but the company later sold to acer
I'd probably max it out (probably 2x32MB sticks) and jump it to a AM5x86-P75. Other than that, awesome job!
Yes true i could have done that, although wanted to leave it original :)
Я правильно понял, он помыл материнскую плату и другую электронику водой с моющим средством? Электнонику. Водой. С шампунем. И она начала работать. И все поверили.😁
Blast from past, nice job on restoring 🎉
My first pc has the same cpu... I think a heatsink should also be attached to the CPU
Does yours have a heat sink? i actually have another system, but its locked, i will have fun trying to open it.
Great👍
looks like this unit had residence in the middle of a muddy cattle pasture for about 15 years. They just don't build em like they used to, goes through hell and still manages to work.
Yeah so true :)
Simple, reliable and beautiful. Excellent deck 👍
thanks
as long as its not a barrel type battery, it has a good chance to survive.
Esos gabintes están preciosos. Yo quisiera conseguir uno de IBM, y ponerle componentes modernos.
Good job! How old is this? Looking good!
1995
Never watched a mime restore a pc before 😂
I have no understanding lol
3:31 If you could wait 20+ years, then you could clone a cat from that dust and then restore that 50 year old PC, just as a bonus
Managed a fleet of 50+ of these running WinNT.... oh memories!
They make so much noise, maybe that is why I always had a headache haha, my computers were always on.
Thats my first PC. Mine was the venturis 433sx but it looks similar to this. Hearing yours start up brings back memories of when I either had to do homework on it or play Doom. Doom ran ok on the limited 4mb ram it had built-in (with boot disk) but it was a game changer literally when I upgraded the RAM to 12mb and got a sound blaster card. Also threw in another hard drive for a whopping 700mb of space.
Haha yes doom was cool, I used to play Quake alot but this was a bit later.
@@vintagematter I still have the first Quake game and I can even play it on my phone.
Le pones una tarjeta de sonido y queda impecable hermosa restauración
Repaired comp like that once
Nice work. Lucky that the corrosion had not gotten to the traces. Did you deoxit any of the ports?
I am not sure what deoxit is?
@@vintagematterexpensive 😅. It’s a contact cleaner, arguably the best.
I think you should consider retrobrighting the plastic parts using hydrogene peroxide and UV lamp.
Here in Australia the UV is very high.
@@vintagematter Well then you can try natural UV light as well to see the result. 8BitGuy did such thing in the USA trying retrobrighting using the sun itself
09:00 Try watching the video you muppet.
what windows is running on this pc
Win95
@@vintagematter vintage windows
"Stained glass windows". :D Sorry. Near 30 years makes it almost a medieval artefact in the IT world. :D It's Windows 95. The first version of the OS that had "Mass market" appeal. Up to then, Windows was still just a basic graphical user interface that the average seasoned MS-DOS user just feel was getting in their way. Even up to Windows 3.11 you still really did need to have at least a basic understanding of MS-DOS to do anything more than simple tasks. 95 was (For the time) rather pretty, and it also did a hell of a lot of hand holding for new users. It really helped bring computers out of the workplace and into early tech adopters homes.
Looks like it has Olivetti origins, the metal case design (in their documentation referred to as "Slim Tin Box") is 100% Olivetti, as used on their M4 and PCS line, but with some design tweaks to the external plastics, though I will give props to DEC for putting an actual ISA socket in the low-profile slot, Olivetti just put a pin header there which limits the use of that spot to a soundcard that is as rare as hen's teeth to find... :)
Oh true, that's interesting
Wow, I’ve not see a Digital branded desktop in over 25 years! At least they had the foresight to use coin battery instead of those soldered on Varta ones. I’m very surprised that the Quantum drive was still functioning for something that old.
Yes I'm glad it was the coin style battery :)
I have a Venturis 5133 machine. Thankfully mine was in much better shape than this one, but its a great retro machine. I have heavilly upgraded mine over the years.
Wow that's cool
Washing electronics in water. Did you ever hear about corrosion.
Corrosion will happen if it's not distilled.
@@vintagematter actually no - you can wash all electronics with water and soap none of that ever happens, electronics are all coated and even if not you just need to dry the water out
@@JusticeNDOU Yes true
@@vintagematter I used to regally scrub smaller circuit boards from old games consoles and handheld games using plain tap water and a soft brush, but then they'd go in demineralised water with a corrosion inhibitor in my ultrasonic cleaner for a long, but low intensity cycle at a medium temperature. After that I'd usually blast them with IPA to displace any remaining water, and leave them in a warm place for at least 4 days before they'd go anywhere near power again. Things like Gameboy Pocket boards would usually come out of that looking BETTER than new, because pretty much all of them left the factory with flux residue caked all around the power socket solder points. I've still got a few of the Gameboy Pockets I did this to, and all still work flawlessly. I actually had one of these apart to do some upgrades a few months back (IPS screen, Li-PO charge board, clean power regulator, upgraded speaker). It had been deep cleaned as described somewhere between 7 and 10 years ago, and still looks perfect inside.
wow amazing job with the restoration and also well done with recordings, last month I got a Digital DecPC 425sxLP too, what you did to the metal chassis in water with battery etc to remove the rust was cool, you should make a video explaining the process in more details to us.
Will do next time, thanks
I have the same case, but model is Venturis 575 an it is 75MHz Pentium machine, one of my favorite retro PS's.
Nice, i will probably wait a while before I restore the other Venturis I have.
There is no such thing as an analog computer
Huh
Please google "analog computer".
I had just woken up lol sorry, but I feel like statinf that it's digital is not needed as that is what most people will think
@@untrust2033 haha yeah I had just woken up and my brain was not functioning properly
With the strictest use of the term "Computer" there was not only Analogue computers (The Babbage difference engine, and the Enigma machines are two mechanical computers that spring to mind), but there was also Biological computers. The word "Computer" originally referred to someone who worked doing complex mathematical calculations. They were usually in offices surrounded by other "Computers" who would be calculating things like total incomings and out goings of a company, tax returns, and various other cost/statistical data. Accountancy firms used to be the main employer of "computers", then they slowly replaced them with what passed as a digital computer back them. The name of the "Computer department" would remain the same, so the word "Computer" slowly became connected to the mass of valves, relays, wiring, and punch cards that took over the role. It sounds stupid, but I was once curious why the word for computer SOUNDS like "Computer" in most languages, and during my reading I came across the English usage history of the word........ It's never a waste of time to learn something new, even if that new knowledge might not have any practical use. :D
Yes it will live again because it worked fine before it was dipped in mud....
in mud, why would i put it in mud, and no it didn't work beforehand.
@@vintagematter that is what so many of these channels do
@@novafurry please look at my community post
That is dust, reddish dust which told me it was from Australia before a word was spoken. Mud would cake on-that is dirt/dust.
@@PC4USE1 well said right on

>keeping the enrergy star decal meh, not my taste.
Thats what i call the ROOTS CLEANING

Thank you!
good job what kind of cleaner you used ?
For plastics dish washing liquid and water, for deep cleaning the yellowed plastic hydrogen peroxide 12%
@@vintagematter thank you
All that effort to restore a rubber dome keyboard from the 1990s. However, I watched the entire video. Nice work!
