INTERESTING DISCOVERY! V8 Engine Build FAILURE or BAD OEM PARTS QUALITY? #car #mechanic #engine
Engine tear down finds OEM new part failure!
Diagnosing engine noise 3000kms after full rebuild. Is it poor quality OEM parts or simple user error?
Lifters, preload and tolerances, just how important are they?
Plus I still have an annoying little misfire so any tips are helpful, please put any ideas in the comments, thanks :)
If you want to know the process to set hydraulic lifter preload there are many excellent videos to show how it’s done (and way better than anything I filmed trying to explain it lol).

Bad cam i say
@@adamboylan2307 yep that’s possible and it was also a ‘quality OEM part’. It looked ok but hard to tell without removal and checking.
You have a whopping 275 videos uploaded yet your subscriber count still hasn’t even reached 500. What the deal is going on? Is UA-cam purposely hiding your channel from viewers 😅 Your content is always high quality and interesting and it puzzles me why you don’t have at least 100,000 subscribers or more. Keep up the great content!
@@robertwest3093 thanks for the compliment, much appreciated 👍. I wish I knew the secret and right now I need all the subscribers and view time I can get while I still can
Do n ot buy Britpart sheit.
Over the last ten years, the quality of most parts in the USA market has completely gone to S**T... regardless of the make of car. The United States is bedfellows with China, far closer ties than the EU or UK. All the old trustworthy American brands of aftermarket and OEM parts cannot be trusted !!! (Crower, Comp Cams, Delphi, AC Delco, ect...) The 1990's seem like last week to me, but I realize now that the 1990's was really the peak time to be a Land Rover enthusiast. The "Golden Age", really. It was really easy to get trust worthy OEM parts, and you took the quality for granted. Cheap, low quality parts (Bearmach, ect), were easily identified and avoided !!
yes I agree and even the crower lifters I used I am wary of but did have a good reputation for being ok, here’s hoping mate 👍🥴
Sounds worse no offence.😢
@ now it’s got a few kms on it it’s way better, and the cold start stumble is nearly gone
That's a flat tappet cam.... I certainly hope you used an oil with high levels of zinc and there is a break in for them that requires you to run the engine at around 2000 rpm for about 20 min when first run on a fresh cam. All bets are off for longevity if you changed the lifters after the fact. I could be wrong because I don't wanna see you wipe a cam. I'm sure I didn't see where you did all that.
there’s another video of the cam break in with running in oil and cam additive from the initial build and this set of lifters got similar treatment. I’m using a high zddp mineral oil as I always do. Thanks for checking though 😀👍
Probably a piece of trash under the spring loaded disc at the bottom of the inner lifter piston. Pull the clip slide the inner piston out and inspect it (super easy).
Maybe OEMS are reselling taiwanese parts
it’s becoming a big problem. Well established engine builders are calling it quits as they can’t get good enough quality parts anymore. A sad state for the enthusiasts.
I'd be much happier if it was Taiwanese, as they have actually, really strived to seperate themselves from mainland China by raising their quality standards.
The car world used to stride towards reliability. When computers started going into cars, reliability nose dove, then it got better but now, they are making cars with planned failure points.....intentional and knowing fail points. BMW are amongst the worst. Look at how much cheap plastic is used in their cooling systems....they know some parts will fail after x amount of heat cycles. They know this. But compensating for these issues is the significant improvements in comfort, design and build....masking the shoddy parts that are known fail points. But, usually, if you buy a base model, they are usually much more reliable as they lack the computers and the complex rubbish that they over charge for. It really should be illegal to build cars with intentional fail points to get money from people.
Yes
Good video, thank you for posting up. Sounds beautiful again... :)
@@sir_forsaken1857 thanks mate. Now to find that annoying misfire lol
What did the cam lifter ends look like? also can you share the crower lifter part mumber, cheers mate

Beastie burble! Once upon a time I did a head gasket on a 240z and learned about clearances when the shaved head caused a valve and piston to meet. Compression test?
ouch that would’ve been an expensive lesson. compression good and even across the board.

In the USA a sticker like that illegal it goes against the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act established in 1975. I don't know if their is a similar law in your country, but in the USA I can just peel that off.

No it didn't. It didn't even participate. The GT-One finished first in class but the victory went to BMW. The classes they participated in were on equal footing, just that one was open cockpit and the other was closed
Excellent video - showing the things that can go wrong is as important as showing how to do things right. Did you measure the length of injectors to see if they are the same? That might account for the fuel rail fitting to them insitu.
@@michaelwallace4298 thanks mate and yes, knowing what goes wrong is imho more important for getting the required results. Injectors are the same length and it was just me trying to shave/cut a corner a little that led me to try the first way…ahh well, live and learn 😀👍
