Cheap homemade air purifier using water -DIY
Переглядів 100 тис.9 років тому
I wanted a rainbow rain-mate but didn't really want to spend that kind of money. so here we are. 1 peanut butter jar, 1 cheap chines made blower and some 1/2 inch tubing. the fan is a 12v fan and the transformer was a random 18v charger i clipped the end off of and wired to the fan. i originally had just the tubing adapter and 1 tube but it wasn't enough air flow so i added more tubing. Now it ...

This is my first electric conversion. plan to upgrade to a bigger motor and other components later. It goes about 12mph for now, enough to keep up with my stepson;s razor dirtbike. Please feel free to mail me comments or suggestions. thanks
Could you possibly add activated black charcoal to filter out oders
Big filter does not want you to see this!
I love you dad
Hey dad I commented on the video
Why is the name of God when you put out a four second video
Why would you add Essential oils? Essential oils are volatile organic compounds. So you are basically adding a cancer causing pollutant to the air after it's been "purified"...
Why did this clown make us wait for over five (5) minutes to tell us the transmission is shot?!
Well BLESS YOUR HEART.
@@joshuacadle Oh yes, that's a polite enough response, but it didn't answer my question. I know it's an old video, but now I've got the original five and three quarters minutes, and now a further few minutes for commenting invested, that I can never get back.
Hello can i use 12v power pack or it should be 18v?
You sound like Hank Hill!
Best damn tractor I've ever owned had mine for over 15 years and has been great but dont ever let it run out or diesel cause it's a bitch to bleed ..
I’m curious, does it really work? After 1 month the water become dirty?
well, yeah, you'd change the water like you would a filter.
That really is nice
A Lemon can run a 4" FAN !
Great Idea. I was going to make one of these a few years back, but with a foam diffuser in the water to break any bubbles .
Perhaps add a second stage with air going through an aquarium air stone? Would produce much smaller bubbles (greater surface area) allowing much finer purification. The first stage would trap any large pieces of dirt that would otherwise clog the airstone. You could even consider using a stage with some kind of oil (ie hydrogenated vegetable oil) which would trap hydrophobic contaminants, and the oil won't evaporate off to mess up your room (the water stage would remove hydrophillic particles). Just an idea.
This fan cost's in our country 8 dollars 💵
Cool idea. Should add a HEPPA filter to it though, as I doubt all the impurities are being filtered out (think of all the smoke that passes through in a bong).
it's meant to work like a bong, capturing the tiniest of solid particles, smoke is a vapor, not solids
Yes, it works!
Very cool, Joshua. Do you think something like this could be adapted to filter shop smoke in an unvented room?
You wrote this comment 5 years ago, so I doubt you'll see this reply, but did you ever try making a water-based shop smoke purifier? I'm pondering making one for my CNC lasers.
@@ProBangers Hello...and yes, I do see your reply. Yes, I did try it, but it wasn't terribly successful. I believe this was due to the fact that the air bubbles passed through the water too quickly for the water to contact all of the particulates. The result is that I was still getting smoky air coming through the water filter. I did theorize that if I was able to either atomize the air into smaller bubbles or to vastly increase the size of the water tank, it would work. But, both of those things are quite complicated, when you consider how much ventilation air is needed for a laser cutter. I hope you have better luck. Let me know if you do. Thanks!
@@SD-mx6iv Thank you for the reply, I appreciate it. My fears were pretty much what you describe, that smoke would simply travel through the bubbles and come up out of the water. I've been using a smoke extractor that I built for the past couple years and it does work well, but dealing with filters is what I would love to get away from. I have a pretty powerful Dayton blower which I was considering using to pull the air into about 4 or 5 gallons within a 13 gallon drum of water via a 6 inch duct. Maybe if I capped off the 6 inch duct and drilled a couple hundred small holes in the duct at the part that will be submerged in water, it would make a difference, maybe... I have no idea though. lol. It'll be a big time investment and perhaps end in failure. Haha
The 1,2 and 3 gears are pretty much useless, unless you want to go slow or pull heavy weights but tha'ts not any good for the clutch, my grandfather had to rebuild the clutch 2 times. The first clutch broke due to it's age of 14 years old and was knocking when releasing the cluth pedal and the second clutch, we bought it from a shop and was manufactured in Turkey. It had the exact problem due to the quality. It only lasted about 1 year...
that was 1997 to 2009 years made is HATTAT TRACTOR in Turkey originally is Fiat
utb means Uzina Tractorul Brașov (brasov tractor plant)
I'd would add an 20mA fuse and maybe a zener diode just to be sure, in case someone accidentally knocks it over. Mine "rainbow" is based upon an industrial coffee-machine and a magnetron/oven combi. Used tubes&relays from the coffeemachine, and the magnetron has a very decent sized low noise fan running @ mains-voltage. Even used the PSU from the magnetron for safety (had fuses, MOT, voltage regulators and such) And as added bonus the watercleaned air passes an HEPA filter before being released into my room
i had this idea last night for a 5 gallon bucket, except i thought having one big pipe going into the water that has a bunch of small holes to diffuse the bubbles like an aquarium air stone, thus creating more tiny bubbles with more surface area exposed to the water so it takes more smaller particles out of the air
nice design
i just did this with a 3.5 inch pipe and the water didn't budge :/. not sure but I will do some research.
Back in the 80s there was a company called altex, that sold a portable device, I went to see demonstation they where hiring salespeople, and it held about 2-3 gallons of water in the clear plastic resivoir and pluged in and sucked air through bottom side inlet, it worked great and trapped lots of particles within minutes but was loud. Guess air filter companies didn't like this, water is inexpensive
alan alan industrial grade is loud. Not really like in house.
Not sure how much dust it will trap, and if it will trap tiny particules (asbestos, allergens). Maybe it's better if you can have it produce more, smaller bubbles? Some way of diffusing and breaking down the bubbles. Nice idea though and thanks for sharing. Might have potential.
Hank Hill commentary?
I tell ya whut.
This is USELESS. The idea is to transfer as much as you can air through the fan->filter. This means that you must get the fan with big fins or with huge suction, to be able to catch and transfer number of times the air in the room for an hour. So with this mini pipes you can't catch nothing of the air, may be only near air, locally.
but show process of making it
u do know that, what u have made can only filter out particulate matter that is huge. stuff like smoke wont get filtered. try it. im telling u
this is essentially bong science, i thought of this when i saw a bong work, as for the issues u brought up, yea if the bubbles are to big its not great, dd a diffusor to make lots of tiny bubbles and viola! bongomatic air filter
great. can u teach me how to make it?
you cant just look and see, it can be made of anything, use almost any fan, and any pipes, make one out of a 5 gallon bucket with pvc pipes and a decent fan thats sealed to the hole, use your brain and science that shit mang
add a humidifier and a dehumidifer stage to the airflow. ever fart in the shower. the smell is stronger and doesn't linger as long. the deeper or longer the air travels near water molecules the more contaminates are removed.
+Just In . Good idea! ^^ But there is a less energy-draining solution: to have a regular indoors fan, directed at 45 degreest towards a water-container, so you get small waves, which also increases surface-area. And just have this as a pre-filter to a better HEPA filter, or whatever. So, using water as a pre-filter.
+uruk boff Why not just use a desert cooler?
Hi, I already tried this kind of homemade air purifier before. To test it I put some cigarette smoke next to it, the smoke went out...it has no time to be trapped by the water. The water surface area circuit in contact with the air should be longer to have a chance to trap anything...
Maybe it is good enough for some dirt and pollen but not enough for cigarette smoke, could be part of a bigger filtering system...
you'd need a active carbon filter for best results.
I wouldn't expect it to work for smoke, considering this is essentially a bong lol
Talon Gregory, Exactly.
Makes no sense. The little bit of water in my bong tells me you are well no.
clever man! i never thought of using water as purify medium!
18V PSU for a 12V fan? :) Shouldnt last long, I would advise you to get a resistor, or use a lower PSU, if it still has power, or a better motor :) Aside from that, its really nice, well done :)
This is amazing Do u have a tutorial or sth? thx
Yes, I too am looking for a slightly bigger scale (for 1-2 rooms) and for a bit more detailed tutorial :)
I admire your work sir.
Great idea sir..what size peanut jar did you use if you don't mind I ask?
I think it was somewhere around a 30 ounce jar and thank you so much for watching
How much did u pay for all of the parts ??
nice.. im doin somethin like this, but swapin a 49cc pocket rocket engine into a little electric dirt bike found at most walmarts.. lol. its REALY light n just needed a PrOjEcT to work on.. itz comin together pretty good thow.. nice vid
hi change your rear sprocket , like 40 teeth add a second battery = more torque and go longer
How many watt motor and how many sla batteries?
