My 1997 960 dropped a valve at 239,000 miles (after my wife drove it for years on regular instead of premium fuel). I still regret not searching harder for a replacement engine. It would have gone another few hundred thousand miles.

I've seen plenty of PV544s, although never the Duett. I would think that a station wagon version of the PV would've been a more popular choice.

I'll never buy a Ford or a GM car. Too many Japanese parts. Not really serious--Volvo buys Japanese made Aisin Warner transmissions. Just making fun of the guy who says he'll never buy from a Chinese owned car company. I know he buys more Chinese stuff than he knows. And Volvos will continue to be mostly made in Sweden and Belgium, although they're planning to build a factory in the US.

My wife's car is a 1998 V70XC--what a great car! But my 2006 2.5T AWD XC90 is even better. Both very reliable and fun to drive. I know Volvo quality took a dive after the Ford purchase in 1998, but for those of you who say Volvo is now garbage--YOU'RE WRONG! Volvo's reliability and quality started rising again after 2002, and from 2008 is excellent. Volvo is back! Much more fun to drive than Japanese cars too. And Volvo is planning to increase total sales from 450,000 in 2011 to 800,000 in 2020.

The 240 is the best all around car Volvo ever built. Anything after the 850 is trash though.

Volvo Bought by Ford in 1998 = Really, really bad. Sold by Ford to a Chinese company in 2010 = I will never, ever, whatsoever, under any circumstanses own a Volvo IN MY LIFETIME. Ever.
