week 2 - West Coast Swing
In week two, we added the under-arm side pass.
All 3 basic steps are 6 counts, starting with 2 walks and 2 sets of a syncopated triple.
Sugar push - if a man stays blocking the track, the woman must return to her start position. Men stay virtually on the same spot, allowing the woman to move closer and further from them.
Side pass - the hand is held low, not allowing the lady to go under. The man's left hand is connected to ladies' right. The man steps off the track to the right, allowing the lady to pass. The lady progressed at least 5 feet from her starting position to the other side.
Under-arm pass - the man's left hand holds ladies right. Durring the 1st 2 walks, he steps off the track to the left. The then leads an inside underarm turn. (Wipe the nose from the wrist to the elbow) The lady has identical footwork to a side pass and travels the same distance.
These 3 patterns make up the core of 6 count west coast patterns. After mastering these fundamentals. Each triple step can be switched out for any number of options. Then, the dance expands by adding 2 beats to the beginning, middle, or end of these patterns.
