But how is Kamba a minority yet they occupy three big counties in Eastern Kenya?
Kambas are not minority buana!!
The outburst in the comments from Kamba community shows how much we value the tribal identity in Kenya. Dont get me wrong is not bad. Nairobi is historically sorrounded by 3 tribes which are the Kikuyu (north and west), Maasai(south) and the Kamba(east) . Kikuyu form the largest bulk of landlords in the city with the other two mentioned tribes following consecutively in land ownership around the city metropolis. Kikuyu is also the largest tribe in Kenya and occupy the most fertile and high altitude lands in the country. Kikuyu tribe fought for Kenyans indepedence from British through MauMau and is higly regarded community in the field of entreprenuership in East and Central Africa. Kambas on the other hand are a major tribe though severly outnumbered by several other tribes such as the Luhya, Luo, Kalejin and the Somali. The best local musicians and tunes we have in Kenya come from the Kamba community.
Best local tunes is subjective. Very subjective. The most fertile lands are surely the North Rift, the country's breadbasket. From central Kenya westwards into Uganda the lands are equally fertile. In western Kenya the population density is VERY dense, hence less land for farming. Kenya is a colonial construct, the Kikuyu were fighting for their land back. The Nandi also resisted the British (and their railway). Europeans drew up the present boundaries (mischievously so) - perhaps for dividing and ruling.
