Record Vocals with Auto Tune in Real Time
This saturday ill start working as the guy who records stuff at a studio. Im mainly a producer but i have been recording people for about 5 years, though only on fl studio (sometimes with ableton too). I had no idea how pro tools works but after watching a couple of videos im getting the hang of it. The best ones i have found on youtube. Thank you!
Awesome, I'm glad it helped! FL Studio is great and was my first DAW I learned how to use.
i thought you would get into panning compression etc
I did not feel it was necessary for this beat. Maybe I will attempt on another project soon.
How to create a Headphone Mix. Be wearing headphones! Both while you’re roughing it out, and while your talent is hearing it. Giving your performer(s) a damned near perfect ears mix right off the bat is one of the very few magic tricks we engineers have. The trust it engenders pays off big time.
Why is every track Normalized? There is No headroom to work with so how do you mix this without distortion?
This is how the track was sent. In most cases I will normalize files to look more uniform. In the beginning of the video I have a limiter cutting off all sound that exceeds 0db to prevent clipping my speakers. In the digital world clipping is not really an issue you can adjust the gain of each audio file and also use the faders to adjust the volume.
Underrated Channel!

Hello, my A-Z is selected and my recording track is selected but when I press ( Shift + "R" ) it won't arm the track for recording. Can anyone help me out?
Which “a-z” is selected? There are 3 categories hat can be selected. The one I always use is located at the top right corner of the edit window. Make sure you are not selecting the one at the top right corner or the clips window.

Wow your Protools tutorials are amazing! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾
You’re welcome
You are a genius! And also what an awesome video. You covered so much detail that I learned about other stuff like mic adjustments plus the auto tunes ! Boy what the hell im I talking about 😂😂
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
🙏👍

Great content! Is there a shortcut that change the trim tool from standard trim to TCE?
Yes, (For a Mac) you press Command + 2 to select the trim tool if you don't already have it selected. You can then press command + 2 to cycle thru the different trim modes including TCE trim tool.
@@topklasstutorials thanks man! Keep doing these tutorials, they’re really helpful
Bro you explain things like shit. You highligted your track and then decided your ouput before you went to AUX. And didnt tell us how to do that..ESPECIALLY us using Windows. Your obviously on a mac..
Do you have input delay compensation on in Apollo when you shut off delay compensation on in Pro tools? If so, what are your Apollo idc settings bro?
Yes input delay compensation is ON in my UA Console settings, this is only important when using multiple inputs simultaneously. I disable low latency monitoring in ProTools so I can record with auto tune.
I noticed that you didn't use the PLAYLIST on the channels instead the way it was done. Is that a better way to take vocal takes or not?
You’re correct, I decided not to use playlists to make it easier to understand. Playlist is the best way to comp recordings IMO.
What if you only have a apollo twin
You can create an internal headphone mix within your DAW.
This is the gold I've spent hours looking for... So excited to try these while tracking tomorrow!
Awesome! Have fun!
Whats the website to send a song to be mixed and mastered?
submit a request using this link: topklassent.wixsite.com/mysite/copy-of-studio-time-request You can also email topklassent@gmail.com
I might’ve missed it but why did you turn low latency off in pro tools ?
When low latency is enabled in ProTools, it will automatically turn off autotune when trying to record vocals. If this is what you want, you can leave low latency turned on however, I prefer to hear my autotune at the same time when recording. Hope that answers your question.
Most informative shortcut video I’ve seen paid for or free !!! Thank you for these gems !!! 🫡
Most of these don't work on windows smh
It’s a common issue with ProTools and windows. ProTools was originally created only for Mac back in the 90’s so some of the key commands don’t work. I actually used to be on PC before I switched and was using the shortcuts with no problem. Do some research to find the commands for windows and I guarantee these shortcuts will speed up your workflow.
nice but you didnt pan any of the instruments, why not?
I did not believe panning was necessary for this track.
boy what the hell u talking bout
is it only me or the audio is in mono?
Wow, thats embarrassing 😅. Somehow the audio got summed to mono. I opened the session to confirm and it is stereo and only the video is mono. Thank You for posting this out.

Thank you! Will do!
Thanks bro 🎉🎉🎉
No problem
THANK YOU SIR!!
Your great video popped up on my feed and I wanted to ask if you also have short-cuts for podcasters? I left Audacity because my Waves ClarityVX plug-in did not work so now I'm in the paid version of Pro Tools and it looks very daunting once your in the start screen. Thanks!
Yes I made a brief live video demonstrating a couple tips for recording podcast. I would honestly suggest using a different DAW for podcasts. Look into purchasing a DAW instead of paying a subscription. here is a link to the live video ua-cam.com/users/liveHrwsgNujZWg
Hey, nice tutorial, I have been getting into mixing and I’m curious about how your fader moves, are they set to protools classic? Also, I see you turned the clip gain off, are you gain staging with the limiter? I have been having trouble mixing my beats are and getting a nice balance on the spectrum analyzer and good tunnel balance. Any info would be great and thanks.
Thanks, my faders are moving together when they are grouped together. My meters are set to sample peak. I suggest using reference tracks to compare mix's and using tonal balance or a spectrum analyzer to guide you. Your ears should be the final step in deciding if something sounds good. I made a video answering your questions, enjoy ua-cam.com/users/liveHrwsgNujZWg
Great video bro!
Thanks Nashid! If you have any questions or request for future videos don’t hesitate to ask. Also don’t forget to like share and subscribe. 😎✌🏻
Wait this is in logic
Yessir, I use Logic for creating music and record and mix in ProTools. Sometimes I will record and mix in Logic but im much faster in ProTools.
first video i watched on beat making in years, great explanation man and succinctly put. n
Thanks! Got some more videos coming soon!
We want more music Recording Tutorial and tricks
❤❤❤
So you mix in 24 bit, do you record vocals & master in the same bit depth?
Typically I will work in 32-bit 48 kHz for all my projects and convert to 24bit 44.1kHz when I bounce the project. Most streaming services accept high fidelity files so it’s becoming more common to use higher sample rates when possible.
Thanks! A great informational video!!
Very welcome!
Cant believe this only has 800views it’s such a good tutorial 🙏🏾 thank you
Thank you!
