I thought most childfree people were more worried about needlessly bringing a life into the world to experience needless suffering. We know what climate change will do to the planet, so having kids is just creating cannon fodder for the coming water wars.

AUGUST 1 Happy International CHILDFREE Day

As a 45 years old french childfree guy, I just looked for new perspectives on being childfree and more generally the childfree subject and I must admit I incredibly enjoyed this podcast. As more I live my best childfree live, as more I see I was not alone to live with this true difference that is living and finding different purposes in live than having a family. Glad to see I am not the only guy in a more generally "feminine milieu". Nice to see the perspective of other man on this topic. I recognized myself in many answers. But also saw significant difference in others regarding this subject. The Main difference would probably be in the fact that I am the childfree "driver" in our couple and that my wife pretty much adapted to me and my thoughts about the topic... I will definitely listen to all your episodes. Super interesting. Thanks for doing such an incredible work.

Thank goodness there are a growing number of confidently child free people- the human race is in big trouble and badly needs more people to decide not to breed. All other species on this Earth will benefit from increasing numbers of childfree humans.

You have to go with your gut on this one because if you don’t really want kids, you really shouldn’t have them. Attachment issues are no joke, they can plague you for your entire life. Fence sitting is something you can do forever if you try to rationalise rather than listen to your gut feeling about wanting to parent or not wanting to. Something that horrifies me about our pronatalist society is the flack childfree women get for their decision. It’s the most responsible and correct decision to take to remain childfree if you don’t feel in your heart that parenting is for you!

32, always known, greatful for the choice thanks to birth control. Not political, my choice is very personal. Saw first hand how challenging parenthood is, had a trial run looking after my baby sister for a week on my own and loved it but know for sure i could never do it full time. Mental health, finances, worries about my body, no innate calling to do it are all factors in my decision. If i wasnt scared of surgery I'd get my tubes tied. My partner didn't get it at first (trad pagan) but he's really come around and gets it more now, he was ambivalent anyway and an only child, I'm the eldest of 4. Children should be 100% wanted. I'm really happy because growing up I was so frightened I'd be made to do it. I'm all good and accepting myself slowly 👍

People who choose a childfree life is very well-thought-out in most cases. There is a sacrifice either way. Like said in my video, We are in charge of the level of complexity we decide to invite into our lives. Great story and conversation! Enjoy your content!

I just want to say that while most antinatalists might want an end to human procreation, they are not necessarily efilists, who see the need for all sentient species to be free of life’s suffering. And the term nihilist (varied definitions) is not really suitable because it is often used to imply that there is a lack of ethical concerns, which is the opposite for most antinatalists and efilists.

I am now 58, and I have never wanted kids. I have no regrets. I have freedom, travel, and a dog. It is enough.

Your approach to this situation has been very different than mine - and to each his own. Personally, I knew at 15 that I never wanted kids and had a vasectomy at 22. That put an end to the "if it happens it happens" ambivalence. Made dating/relationships very easy - either you're happy with no kids with me or you're happy moving on. No point wasting anyone's time - especially mine. Have never regretted it. As for the nosy people who need to know why you don't already/when are you going to have kids, etc., that's very simply and easily handled - "None of your business". That's your personal decision between the two of you, and nobody else is entitled to that information or to make their judgments about things that are absolutely none of their concern. Then again, maybe that's just me.

I have a very good friend who lives in the same building I do who couldn’t come to my apartment for my birthday because it was the baby nap time and another good friend of mine is also the same, she wouldn’t even leave the child with her husband and it’s been hard to see them getting lost like that and it took time for me see other friends having healthier parenting styles to understand that not everyone is like that but it definitely didn’t help with my decision of wanting/not wanting kids because I saw the way they parent and I definitely thought wow I don’t want to be a mum ever. I now see it with more perspective.

I love love the fact that more women are coming out and speaking about childfree living. This lifestyle is amazing I'm 29 childfree living in a 3rd world country and the term childfree isn't known much having babies is the norm where o come from, the childfree community have save my life in so many ways thanks to all the women out there for sharing and speaking up.❤❤❤

Made a similar decision...at age 10 my mother left so I was the oldest of 4, already having changed more diapers than my mother on the young ones. Then dad remarried 1.5 years later and I then became the oldest of 2 more, 6 total. Saw only the drudgeries and hardship of having kids and not the reward so I do think that is why I never ever felt compelled to have any of my own. Briefly at age 32 I dated someone I would have had children with, but that didn't last and no one filled the bill again during my child bearing years. Age 73 now and though I do not regret not having children, I do experience a huge difference in how secure I feel in general since I don't have kids looking in on me and making sure I am okay. On the other hand, this may be a factor in why I do all I can to stay healthy, including mentally healthy. Still...at age 90 I will not have kids around to empty out an apartment after I die. These are the kinds of things I think about now.

The "childless and childfree demographic" is such a fascinating demographic. It will be gone in a generation, axiomatically. Men, throughout history, have had to compete against each other in a rather cut-throat fashion to get the opportunity to reproduce. Roughly 40% of men reproduced vs 80% of women, historically. These men who never were able to pass on their genes have effectively been eliminated from the story of human history. This new demographic of women who are voluntarily taking themselves out of the reproductive pool are probably a new phenomenon in all of human history and will change the way the human species develops into the future.

Goodness gracious! This truly goes to show people will criticize us no matter what. Have a kid and talk about how you’ve realized how difficult things can be, and people will drag you for not having learned and researched more before you made the choice. Don’t have kids and celebrate it, and people will drag us for being selfish and shorting our future selves and society. The harsh reality for any big life change like this, is there will always be something you could have, should have, or would have done differently. We don’t always realize the right way to do things until we’ve done them in a way that wasn’t the best way for us. Also, we don’t know everything to research before we make major life decisions. A really challenging thing is that you don’t know what you don’t know, and so you can research a choice extensively, and still not have researched enough. I applaud all the parents, especially moms, speaking publicly about how difficult motherhood is, what they would have done differently, and how society is doing everyone a disservice by romanticizing motherhood.

Wow, a mother who actually has the balls (joke) to speak about the negatives of parenthood. I feel like parents are dissuaded from saying anything but positive things, lest they be exiled or crucified.

If no one tells women how hard motherhood will be, some of the time, it's surely because they didn't regard a woman's autonomy as important enough on its own, without motherhood. They were so wrong.

It sucks she had to learn this lesson this way but at least she acknowleges that she should’ve done better. Hopefully people will listen and learn from her before they make a permanent choice.
