Hard to tell in wood that size. In bigger wood, the chip size will become smaller, saw will slow down, leave lazy straps, and will split the log if unsupported.

Been a year since I've ran one, and never considered myself a expert with the computer. So you've been warned. You could tighten up just the bottom knife, or less pulse on that knife, or loosen the main knives. As I remember there is adjustment on that bottom knife for flare, or the amount that bottom knife closes on a new stem. I remember opening the main knives at times when reversing. Try not to reverse after zeroing the saw, your measurements will suffer. Keeping the knives sharp helps with this. If you can't get it sorted, give Log Max a call at three60 six99 730zero. They helped me many times. Good luck!

Thanks!! I run a signature 14 1/2"× 28p 4 blade cleaver 15 degree rake, at about 2 1/4" above pad. I think they may have been called a buckshot cleaver at one point. I messed with lots of different props and engine heights, that one ran the best for top end. Congats on your new ride!!

@@hunteryt2462 Last I heard they had sold the processor, loader, and had the rest of the equipment for sale. Had a good run, but good strips are getting hard to find.

Thanks for the advice, but I retired last spring. I've seen many changes in the industry during my career, and I'm sure there will be more in the near future. If you don't adapt you get left behind. One thing is a given,.. the need for wood products is not going away, and trees are still growing.

It happens,... usually when the ground is real steep, but we usually had two skidders on site. Most of the time everyone had plenty to do. The company I worked for was well polished with two owner operators, and long term employees, since retired.

We plow with a grader, or dozer. If haul road is more than five miles the mill takes care of it,....sometimes.

Our two local pulp mills have shuttered the doors. This pile will be burned. Prior to mill closures, all top wood except cedar was utilized.

Multiples of 8 or 9' up to 37' .

I'm on spring break, gone fishing. Let someone else deal with the brush!

Trying to get a cedar load up to weight, and still have access to the pintel hitch. I've logged alot in Washington state also.

@@weilfast gotcha. I hated loading cedar. Drivers would complain if you took too much time fiddling around to get absolutely as much as possible on, but then they'd complain that they weren't up to weight. Dealing with truck drivers was the worst part of running loader for me.

Varies, 20 -70 ton a hour, depending on quality, and species of trees. This job was on the lower end of the spectrum, as it was primarily small cedar.

This machine was built in 2014 and ac is marginal even when new. The Cat 320 I ran before had much better ac.

@@weilfast I put a 2” piece of Styrofoam on the Roof that made a big difference. 2654D. Didn’t know if I was the only one…

I have a piece of cardboard inside my skylight, also use a long air gun to clean the ac radiator out regularly. Ac on loader is lackluster also. The 848 skidder has awesome ac

It has auto reverse on the main radiator/coolers, but ac is behind the cab with electric fans, sucks hot air. JD advertise a redesigned system. Maybe the new ones are better?

Not much experience with hardwood or Waratah. Looks like 2156 has about the same hp and flow as 2154. I've cut alot of birch, and large trees with our setup. As long as you can set the knives loose and have some technique, I think it would work. Couldn't be any worse than some of our ridge top wood we have around here.

All depends on your hardwoods. Most hardwoods require more technique than sheer power, although that's important. IMO neither waratah or logmax is worth anything in hardwood, but I have limited experience with newer logmax heads.

What would you prefer to Run in Hardwood?

@@robwar2288 as mentioned, it depends on the hardwoods. I've seen luck with waratah in the really big oaks and gums in the south, but we've had great luck with Ponsse h8's in the great lakes hardwood. Really snappy power, and a fairly short frame so they are really maneuverable in the crooks and crotches.

@@robwar2288 what ever brand is used, I would think that a top saw would be highly beneficial. I will note that log max has the ability to run trees with all knives open. It also has extensive individual knife control in the computer, and hand controls. Which helps alot with crooked stems.

I guess when all the blowbucks go bankrupt, you can wipe your nose with a plastic bag.

Thanks! Harvest prescription is 6"+ dbh. This particular area probably could benefit from slashing, and replanting. There's a little high quality regeneration in spots, as this area has been cut a few times in the last 30 years. Too much snow for our buncher to slash all that understory, and make any sort of production.
