BOOK REVIEW: Bringing Scientific Thinking to Life
if you like family sagas where the different generations face different issues, there's a 1999 Hungarian film by Istvan Szabo called "Sunshine" that is all spoken in English, where three generations of Hungarian Jews live through the "Austro-Hungarian Empire" the fascism of "The Kingdom of Hungary" and the socialism of "People's Democratic Republic of Hungary" over the course of a hundred years, with the same actor (Ralph Fiennes) playing grandfather, father and son. With the three types of government being to me a representation of "premodernity", "modernity" and "postmodernity", ending with the fall of the USSR and the creation of the current Nation of Hungary, which I guess could be the representative of "metamodernity". I think a free version is online or on UA-cam, but warning it is 3 hours, and contains violence, sex, nudity and course language.
there actually have already been brain implants made for people who are paraplegic or quadriplegic to move artificial limbs or control cursors or computers with their thoughts. There have been brain implants to treat people with epilepsy, which actually turned out to be stimulating the hippocampus, which is really important in maintaining memories, so could end up being an implant to help people with dementia or Alzheimers in the near future.
I could have gave the same review and not even read it
You mentioned not knowing what the definition of toxic masculinity. But you described it pretty accurately with men behaving like boys and how dangerous (and toxic) it can be.
Great view Jordan
Thanks for the summary. Reading Toyota way now. Encourage you to restart your reviews!
Carl Sagan predicted the world today in 2024! That man was a genius!
Good review. The biggest takeaway I got from the book was that we should be objective, non-judgmental and non-reactive in our communication with others. In a way to take things at face value without reading our emotions into the situation. As you said, seek to understand. Often, repeating back to them your interpretation of the situation, how that situation (not them) makes you feel. What unmet need of yours results in that feeling and how you would like the interaction to proceed to resolve that unpleasant feeling.
Love up, brother, the novel is amazing especially from an author's perspective
You summed up the Western man perfectly. Great book & review too.
I forgot about the secret of nim!
the book is for long relationship not for quick sex is for lasting relationships
i just finished reading this book! i also watched the movie again because i didn’t really remember it but i agree the book is WAY better but the movie
I got the book, honestly one of the best books I've ever read and I haven't even finished it.
Ordered the book today, can't wait to read it! Shipping from USA all the way to Georgia (Europe), so it's gonna take a little over a month or two sadly. Good review.
Did you receive the book yet and have you had a chance to read it? If so, what did you think?
@@metoo9360 I did receive and have read it, I really enjoyed it. Many of the matters present in the book are still relevant and some even more so. Most important book i own, highly recommend.
@@leriku2270 yep it's more relevant today more than ever because we are reverting back to the days of ignorance, magical thinking, and superstition as well as the rise of fascism in America.
My all time favorite
I read Carlo Collodi's book when I was 7/8 years old. There were many Pinocchio books that I remember from childhood, like the Living Storybook Pinocchio.(I first learned the word marionette from the story. I remember a Pinocchio cartoon on TV and fondly remember a British edition of Pinocchio I read in the second grade. In the second grade I also saw Walt Disney's Pinocchio. I hope there are more people like me who didn't first learn Pinocchio because of Disney. I treasure the 1914 edition of Pinocchio that my Gramma gave me when I was 8.
Just want to point out it took you 2 minutes to stop talking about you and your thing and start talking about the book. That lasted about 7 seconds and then you start talking about yourself again at 2:07. Finally 2:55 you brush the premise of the book. Then you immediately start talking about Lord of the RIngs, then follow up with I don't want to tell you too much about WaterShip Down but its a good book. You didnt read it did you.
THANK YOU CURRENTLY READING IT RN IN MY PHILOSOPHY COURSE IT REALLY IS A GOOD BOOK AND HES AMAZING WRITER ASIDE FROM BEING A SCIENTIST
Looking back on this from 2024 - how much of the stupidity of the past 4 years could have been avoided if this book were required reading for the past 25 years…
They authors wrote four other books: The king within, The warrior within, The magician within and The lover within. All great books. Especially “The King Within “
The book is how we feel
Thank you for this! V informative
So interesting that there aren’t any videos of the author on UA-cam. I can’t find any videos of Peter Andrei online
Just bought it, great review, thanks!
This book seems to be relevant to today's society.
Thanks for the review.
Nice. Thanks
Bra the dumbing down has reached global scale, the educational system is still the same since the industrial revolution ✌
I am definitely going to get this book. I was sceptical at first but you showed me it's worth a read anyway
There is a audio book version on UA-cam for free.
Slowing down is of course deceleration, but I think you knew that :)
One of my all-time favourite novels. A treasure, truly. ♡ And "lapin" is "rabbit" en Français. WD sure gave me nightmares as a child. Do you remember a show called Bridge to Terabithia? Its from that tome i believe. I remember it vaguely. The name- i know it! The girl, she was dead the whole time! Did you know? 😲 Have you read Adams' other work, "Plague Dogs"? Oh, my weeping heart! 😢😢😢 It's really moving. Great review. Cheers, sir! 🙃
Hi….. is there any book that you have came across that the movie was better than the book??
That's a literal impossibility. It would be like putting the future before the past...
If the movie came before the book maybe
Cute video 👍
Yo dawg i got me a book
Watership Down is a great book! I read it many times over, and still enjoy it even now as an adult. Great review!
Watership Down, is a book from an era where authors wrote for both adults and children, without insulting the intelligence of either group.
Oh, absolutely! Youre absolutely right! Such a classic. I have such great memories of reading it, and watching the animated movie far too young, probably... I had horrific nightmares about the dogs chasing them- and ripping the rabbits apart. 😢
Yes. Very well said.
If you enjoyed Accelerando, you’ll probably love the tabletop role playing game Eclipse Phase.
Excellent review 🙏🏽
BWT, the most successful investment firm ever was the Dutch East India company. The 2nd most successful was the English West India company. I think a person of your background would be interested 2 find out why.
Sorry J., but the most powerful investment firm in the US fin history had gone bust in 2008.
J., thank you 4 yr prescient review. Are U aware of the fact that evolutionary & social psychology are bunk? In any case, psychology is a pseudoscience. Look up the replication crisis in psychology. It should be relegated to letters & stamp collection.
Hi J., Kahneman is an overhyped charlatan, like virtually all so-called Nobel laureates in Econ. Read 2 classics. The functions of executive by Barnard & Administrative behavior by Simon. Then you will be set with the skills of decision-making for life.
I see you’re not married, why would you expect married men to take your advice over a lifelong married couple. What individual points did you refute? This is barely a review
I have been a scientific skeptic and a critical thinker for some 15 years and surprisingly I just got around to reading this book and wow! What an awesome read and resource to have!
I viewed his lectures when I was ultra depressed and it helped me a great deal. I think the book would have done wonders. My sister's friend died and I'm gonna give him the book now and see what it does for him, I think it's a good idea to help him understand what's happening to him. I'm also almost 100% sure he might never read it. bt jst in case,I will pause the bomb.
like your review. the book has words in it for sure.
Good on Jordan! HaHa🤣"This person has a PhD. This person watched 2 UA-cam videos. Who are you going to listen to?"
To me this is the best book review I have seen from you. Beautifully explained. Thank you!
Hi Jordan, this book review wasn't what I thought it would be. If you could please recommend a book about investing in yourself I would appreciate it. I want to start my own online business selling art and S.T.E.M. learning materials. Thank you for making these reviews. i've been a sub for 3yrs now and have never been disappointed (yes, I was that organic chemistry molecule).
