Fast forward a few decades later and I just bought a set that only has two fingers but it goes completely over my smallest left fingers and there's no metal sticking out in the back so I can punch normally.

Yeah they are best for hooks and uppercuts and should be used like a palm strike rather than a conventional knuckle strike. Different designs will fit differently. My rule of thumb is that I should be able to do pushups on my fists with them on without it hurting my hands and I should only be feeling the pressure in my palm. I never leave home without it.

When you punch in real human it wont hurt your so bad, compare to the wall or any hard object as a mere example for practise, human body is soft when u hit it with brass knuckle it will hurt him a lot, not your hand.

Cant throw boxing punches if the brass knuckles are held before the middle knuckles of the hand.. every punch is limited to a crapping motion.. even a straight punch or jab is difficult.. Question is . Why were the knuckles of the Roman cestus.. the fore runners of the brass knuckles placed on the knuckles of the hand and not on the middle knuckles of the fingers??
