Its really cool! It’s kinda like a puffy steeze with even more volume right behind the seat. It has a ton of rocker. Felt super fast because the stern would load when I boofed, but it has really flat sidewalls in the bow so it doesn’t like sweep strokes when my weight was forward. Supposedly this was changed on more recent protos, along with less stern volume. Created with the #GoPro App on my ...

    Glad you made it out ok. Might want to take a formal SWR course, both you and your buddy. You can learn some things from experience, but you'd probably have had a lot easier time unpinning that Ripper if you knew a few tricks. But good job staying calm and not rushing anything.

      @jeffkrueger8072 Рік тому

      @@AnonymousOtters that’s a stretch even calling that a 4 from where I come from. That’s maybe 3+ / 4- tbh

    • @AnonymousOtters
      @AnonymousOtters Рік тому

      @@jeffkrueger8072 Grading is not entirely objective anyways, it has more to due with overall risk on a run than how the water looks. The run has a long, continuous sequence of rapids, with some clear hazards including wood and holes, and has a seriously long runout that would be hard to protect despite roadside access. That is pretty firmly within the description of a class 4, and it looks like that is the consensus by the community at American Whitewater as well.

    • @jeffkrueger8072
      @jeffkrueger8072 Рік тому

      @@AnonymousOtters 1. The OP is grading on the swim section, hence as am I. 2. Class 4 “long difficult rapids… often requiring difficult maneuvering…”. None of that here. At rhis level, this is low volume / low push with nothing to really avoid: it’s 15’ wide channel and any hole is easily backpaddled to skirt at bare minimum. 3. There’s no wood in this section per video. Regardless, knowing that run at that water level in that section, ya, no, not a 4 but as someone posted it can be “subjective” and per my history and the AWA definition you cite… not a 4

    • @jackkayak
      @jackkayak 10 місяців тому

      There was some wood. The hole he initially swam out of had ~4’ of recirc, you’re not paddling out of that easily.

  • @jordangoodman77
    @jordangoodman77 Рік тому

    I would have ran that same line you did while your friend was still in the hole. get downstream of him so you can help.

  • @Cary_Glenn
    @Cary_Glenn Рік тому

    If everybody lived to paddle another day it was a good rescue. I would suggest carrying a couple of prussic loops in your pin kit. The loops would have allowed you to release the tension on the rope. When boating with a small team (2-3) each person should have a complete pin kit, in bigger group you can usually spread the gear between people. There is a saying in the adventure world, "Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement." Honestly, you did a good job, you will have a great story about it, and you've learned something.

  • @davet9633

    Paddled this many times, Blue bridge down is not Class V

    • @jackkayak
      @jackkayak Рік тому

      After conferring with several other much more experienced paddlers, we came to this conclusion, taking into account the recirculation at this flow, the wood, and the consequence.

    • @jordangoodman77
      @jordangoodman77 Рік тому

      It's all a matter of opinion at the end of the day. That would be STOUT class IV

    • @WildwaterKayak
      @WildwaterKayak Рік тому

      Yeah elephant buttress is class 4, the run out sucks to swim because of the road blast. I would not want to swim it. But look at AW they classified as as class 4 also even after the change in 2019.

  • @ch678able
    @ch678able Рік тому

    Despite the swimmer standing in the creek, the next noticeable thing was the amount of the small diameter rope you had. It seemed to be more of a nuisance with the untangling and keeping it away from your feet. Granted, longer is better when including it as the butt part of the anchoring system, but messing around with it seemed to take up a lot your time. With the number of biners with you, which is a good thing, I would have used a hitch (munter) in lieu of overhand knots---much more control and easier to untie; and no need to have created a second anchor to relieve the tension from the leader before cutting the butt anchor. But, yeh, all this is 20-20. Regardless and under the circumstances, you performed an excellent rescue. I can fix those dents. xD
