I loved this live version since the beginning! The strangest thing is... In the original video matthew is wrecking his guitar speaker and than plays the start of Pshycho!! In 2001! 😊
downloaded this from 'Napster' back in 2001 when I was 16. It took about 3 hours to download but it was worth it. It was the fucking coolest thing I'd ever seen, the riff, the onstage theatrics, that AWESOME mosh pit. The start of a 22 year long love affair. Sure there's been some ups and downs, like with all love affairs, but how joyous to still be blessed with your presence Muse.
I was there ... as a 18y old. They played somewhere in the afternoon. I never heard of them but was shocked by the cool songs and especially this epic performance of New Born. Been a fan ever since. Saw a lot of their concerts ... but this performance ... still has something magical.
Whenever you listen to their old stuff you wonder if the band currently playing is still Muse! After so many records and having sold millions albums worldwide their energy is slowly running out! I mean I feel addicted to their style but I prefer keeping stuck to this kind of music instead of diving into the latest album! it sounds commercial despite their effort to throw it all back; the first rawness and ferociousness will never come up again! They were such an incredible band, mainly involved in the alternative scene and taking the stupid melodies off! They didn't want their sound to be akin to the other bands and they tried getting over the normal flow of rock! At the beginning they put classical music in their songs and they merged rock with classical fences without electronic! Straightforwardly their music was supposed to be released for the mature ones, it wasn't apt to the youngest generations! They crossed the line between a normal rock approach and the newest influences going on, they affected and unleashed crowds all over the world because of their utter allegiance and their totally crazy manners on stage! It mightn't have been more explosive and intense, thankfully!
+fretui medak Personally I love the new stuff more. They really just try to make experimental music. Not commercial or anything, I don't think there's any problem with catchy, stadium rock songs or slow beat electronic stuff. Muse is Muse, from Showbiz to Drones. And I love all of their stuff, it's like a timeline of the world, from the futuristic to the apocalyptic. from Brit rock to electronic stadium rock. I think Muse fans should be that their band is so versatile instead of keep whining about the new stuff.
+Gabi: I agree with you when you see how much Muse has changed their music through years, then this is what we call Muse . Always different, through years
won't be anything like the good old days.. they've been mainstreamed.. they're touring with dizzie rascal ffs.. i was a huge fan between 2000 and 2006.. not bought a single cd or track since
lol just found my previous angry self commenting.. I still adore this video and I still miss the old Muse, I do think they changed their style to bring in more audience which alienated some older fans.. I continue to listen to my 2000 to 2006 era muse but less bitterly now :D
Yeah I know. I was talking about when he started using the KAOSS pad. Something about a switch up in his rig around the Black Holes and Revelations period just sapped some of the greatness out of his tone. It's very compressed now and just not as raw. It might be the amps he switched to or maybe because he stopped suing the Line 6 stuff as much in that era. Still love them, but their live shows during the Absolution era are just amazing.
@YorkeTchock MAtt's guitar sounds very very compressed now. Especially on the HAARP CD and DVD. Haven't seen a lot of live stuff since he switched to that new 2/12 all metal amp but the one video I saw it sounded pretty good. He uses a lot of digital stuff and that's fine but I feel like since he started using the MIDI stuff and KAOSS pad it really hollowed out his sound I feel like. His Absolution era tone was when it was at it's prime. His sound on the Glastonbury DVD is just orgasmic.

How he says 'wasting our last chance' it's wonderful

Even though there old stuff is way more raw and energetic you gotta admit that they transitioned to "mainstream" really well
What happened? Why is the new stuff so horrible????
Best live of new born 😍

The new stuff is awful. And you prefer it more??? That speaks volumes.
This is the best 'new born' guitar solo performance ever
