First Public Carp Fishing trip to France April 2023
My first ever public carp fishing expedition on the continent. It takes a few days to find the fish but what happens next surpasses all expectations. I land some big river carp with a little help from some French catfish anglers...

A vlog of a one week trip to France, public water carp fishing with Ryan Wells. We struggle on the canal but have much better success on the river and a new lake. The most prolific trip to date with over 30 carp caught up to nearly 50lb.

A seven-day trip to France fishing the Haute Canals and the Marne from its mid sections in the Champagne Region down towards Paris. This is an un edited vlog, showing things exactly as they happened
Shouldn't stand carp up on there bellies chaps on matt, not good to put all the pressure on there internal organs,
Good video
Enjoyed the video mate. Keep up the good work. I am going to start doing public lakes this year. Just not sure where to start.
Thanks Buddy! Just do it 😊 use UA-cam, Google maps and Google search to identify an area. Check the Federation website. Many now have a section on carp. Join the Public Lakes and Rivers Facebook group
Do u mind me asking what river is that. That was some week ye had 😮

Cheers buddy!
Mustard 🔥👌🏻
Cheers Wayne!
Your fishing skills are truly impressive! Could you make another video sharing detailed information about the fishing gear you use?
You flatter me. 40 years+ carp fishing and still learning! I use gear that is cheap but robust and reliable. As to another video on gear, I will give it some thought...
Yeah spot on, again! The no music thing is very refreshing. I like the sound of fishing!
Thanks Russell,! Glad you enjoyed it
Cracking video Scott 👏👏👏
Cheers buddy!
Great job, keep it up, my friend! I'm looking forward to your new video 💪
Thanks buddy! I've got a couple scheduled including the story of my first ever Public Carp Fishing adventure (end of Jan)
Cracking video lads .miss the drumandbase😂😂😂 well done
Cheers buddy! Also thinking of adding some drone footage and some B-roll of nature at it's finest :)
Great video guys….Well done, really enjoyed it…👏👍❤️😍
Cheers fella! If you like this stuff take a look at some of my other content
Hi Are you casting or boating your 8oz leads ? What range please ? Really enjoy all of your Carping videos and off to the Rhone myself in June.
Yeah bang on. The lack of music is very refreshing. I like the sound of fishing! Happy new year ❤
Drum and base! Does my head in 😂
Class video lads 👊🏻
Thanks bud! We had a lot of fun on that trip 😊
Fishing with 10 ft gay rods on the river 🤦🤦🤦
Mine are longer (12ft). It's just Ryan that's a bit of a fairy 😀
@camokhazi a ok didnt saw that .but anyway nice fish u cathed 👍
My son fishes Belgium and last year had a lovely mirror 42 pounds on the canals
That's a cracking fish 🐟See my other videos for some BIG canal carp
that stretch of canal is really tricky to fish. Spotted the two-tone aswell, what a fish ! Still on my list...
Hi Florian. I'd love to know how big it is. Only one way to find.out...
@@camokhazi I know it has been caught around 40lb, but when I saw it compared to the others swimming around it... might be around 20 kg+...
it's nonsense... if you don't know how to fix your rods or open the brake, you are not welcome here... the fish are already damaged enough. I fished the post a week after your visit and I picked up one of your rigs (probably) with at least 15m of line... stay in your fisheries if you want to do that with us!
The brake was tight to stop the fish taking too much line. The more line taken the greater the risk of snagging. Also, On a tight line the fish are forced to fight higher in the water
nice catch!
Awesome work Scott, that common from the canal is just fantastic.. Well done..
Thanks buddy!
The bubbles are not totally from the bottom itself - they are the carp releasing water from their swim bladders but yes to feed on the bottom.
There was a carp caught in the Kennet and Avon canal some years ago in one of the marinas I believe which weighed 41lb. Photographs on Google.
French carp this one
That can not be uk canal water?!
By the looks of the comments here, it's not but,,,, my local (Grand Union, West London) produced a 40, taken by a chap fishing at the back of Tescos car park!😂
@@gregsmith7821 About 30 years ago I see a bloke catch a 25 lb Mirror on a roach pole with 1 lb line and a size 20 hook on the GUC near the bridge at Farlow's Lake West Drayton it took him well over an hour to land it.
@@djscottfree2008 No suprise. The 40 a few years back was identified as a known fish from Farlows. Best bet was that at some point, Farlows had flooded, tipped into the Grand Union and the fish went with it. Apparently the angler who nabbed it, was tipped off by a mate who lived on a barge and saw the fish when throwing some food waste over the side.😂
Where was this mate here in the uk
France
Yeah loved it! Very refreshing, more please...
PThanks Russel. Going again next week! Will get it edited and up ASA
Where, whats stretch is best?
@@Raid_init I found this spot by watching for fish jumping. Look for features, eddys, slack water, islands etc
@@camokhazi From the sounds of it, you're not fishing dedicated night spots but the wilder parts between urban life.
Hi Scott, im enjoying your videos, i go solo in france myself these days. Can i ask how you get on with the bike trailer,i have been thinking of getting one myself , which one do you use. Thanks
Hi, thanks for the feedback. The bicycle trailer is about £80 on Amazon (Homcom or VidaXL). You need to cut the gear down and secure firmly to the trailer. You dont want the bedchair to move. I use some long velcro straps front to back and side to side. Great over flat ground. More tricky up and down steep hills. They are brilliant for the Chemin de halage. You can go Kms to the best spots which are often further from the car park. Good luck with future trips!
Thanks for that, i can see they would be a big help on the canals. I will definately be looking into getting myself one ..
I actually caught the big common aswell as the big mirror from that little stretch of canal haha 😂 Instant flashback. (prespawn weight ! ) Nice angling !
thanks! What month/year did you have your captures?
@@camokhazi the mirror i had may last year (22,9kg), the common this year also in may 21,8. And there's another common just over 20 as well ;)
Well done!. I have since discovered that the digital scales that I was using were underestimating by c.500g so, those improved weights don't surprise me. Good to know there is another target common in there. Take a look at my "Canal Monster" clip video. This is of a big mirror in another section nearby. I would estimate this at well over 20kg
@@camokhazi uploaded the release of both fish on my channel (one of them is a 'short')
