@dontaylor4464 I sort of get what you mean. You don't have nearly as powerful, flashy attacks or movement skills. The pace is slower and more purposeful. I think some of the jank adds to the challenge, too, though, lol. Even after all these years, it's just so different compared to most of the other games. And it makes me continuously have so much love and appreciation for this game, haha.

@k.hollow I'm not familiar with modded psps, so I don't know if it'll work, sorry. I only knew of it working specifically with the PC version. Currently, the battle mod script doesn't even work anymore after the steam release/update 😭🙈

Your best option would be to check out the story cutscenes and retrospectives for Kingdom Hearts X/ Union X & Dark Road through UA-cam channels like @damo279 @Everglow and @Roboloidx They stories are not directly accessible through the collections unfortunately, but you should be able to find them on UA-cam pretty easily.

That's right. You and me both! It's only two of the games, but I would have preferred having them playable, cutscene only isn't the same. From what I've read, they originally intended to fully remaster 358/2 Days for 1.5 remix, but it was going to delay the release by a year and opted to only redo the cutscenes. I assume the same decision happened with Recoded for 2.5.

@@smugaru i mean i don't mind if it's a cutscene movie, but at least they should have done what Sony did with Ratchet and Clank, to edit the cutscenes and animate a couple new scenes to fill in the gaps, so one can understand the story

they should remake the mobile games, or at least make another movie about them, since they're including that storyline in KH4 and union X isn't playable

There are a couple of different methods depending on the type of mod files you're trying to use. Better Battle system uses lua files while Ultimate Mix were pcpatch files. I used Lua Frontend for the scripts and khpcpatcher for UM. Using lua script files: Download and unzip the Lua frontend from TopazTK > Go into the provided scripts folders > Rename the individual script sub-folders to remove the "gl" (Example: included folder will be "bbsgl", change to simply "bbs") > Drag and drop the lua script files you aquired and place inside of this bbs folder > Launch the game (title screen is good) > Launch the LuaFrotend exe > Go to Engine > Start Engine > A console window should pop up confirming the status of scripts being initialized successfully. You will have to open and start Lua frontend engine EACH time you wish to play the game using this method. (1/2)

khpcpatcher only uses files with the "pcpatch" file extension To use it: download the exe from AntonioDePau > download the "resources" zip folder from the same page > run the khpcpatcher program > click select patch and locate where you have your "pcpatch" file > click apply patch and wait for it to complete (It should pop up with patch applied) Now you can launch the game like normal. You may have to point it to the install location of the games the first time. I can't remember. Also the resources folder will need to be in the same location you run the pcpatcher program. It helps to create a folder where you keep all of these related tools and mod files together. (2/2) Important note, various mods and scripts were broken with the release of the steam version/update. The better battle system mod I wanted to showcase does not currently work 😭

Yeah, a lot of people had similar experiences. This was more so aimed at people starting fresh post remix collections or someone who only tried a couple of them in the past and want to come back and play through the series haha.

The weird names add their own charm, but a part of me would have appreciated if they streamlined titles and collection names lol.

Exxactly! There's nothing wrong with starting with BBS if it was the one that looked most interesting, and/or you only had a PSP at the time. But it's difficult not recommending release order now that the games are easier to get. It almost feels irresponsible lol 😂😂

It's so interesting hearing more people's opinion on it! BBS was really impressive for the time, but Recoded feels like the tiny refinement it needed. I wasn't able to play BBS on the PSP back in the day. I was always under the impression that Recoded had to be the inferior game, but it still holds up as my favorite lol

Union Cross & Dark Road I'd say fit best right before and right after Kingdom Hearts 3, respectively. Or even just look them up when you've got some free time in the middle of KH3 haha.

I'd argue melody of memory is the best place to start if you actually enjoy (or at least tolerate) rhythm action games 😂

I'm about to play the "melon" mix on my PC. Is there anything I should look out for? I know the combo system is completely different

@LilBoTeeth Definitely save your level up and strength/defense stat chips for when you can place them between CPU segments (the game will explain it, lol.) That will give double value for them. Keyblades basically act as unique loadouts but will require keeping a guage filled by attacking things. If you run out of enemies, take advantage of breakable blocks in the environment to keep your guage up.

Same for me, it really is such a fun game to play. It's so nice to know others have played and are praising this game as well. I would love to see it get remade so more people can actually play it instead of only getting the cutscenes. Those do the game a complete disservice imo lol.

@smugaru Yeah it's a total crime that the only part that's being officially preserved happens to be the weakest aspect of the game by far

@dannysimion The first one is still my favorite overall. It really does have a charm and cohesion that the rest of the series hasn't matched. The best way I can put it is that it feels like an actual crossover special that would have been on Disney Channel or something like House of Mouse

Yeah, that's something does concern me a lot too. I feel like Square could easily mess up a remake lol. I wouldn't want KH1 plastered over KH3, or for it be so different like FF7R I do feel like both would still benefit from some sort of remake.

@Ailo.. It's not my favorite to play either, lol. The story is important for the series going forward, though. I'd suggest looking up the cutscenes or plot synopsis. Don't stress about having to play it. My first time playing it, I was close to rage quitting it 💀🙈

Ooohh, how are you feeling about reCoM so far? It's one that I know turns off a lot of people, but I actually find it pretty fun once you get the hang of it and understand the rhythm of it 😅 Also, the story is really good once it gets going.

Re:Com was alright for a side game but my brain was rotted by the idea of the faster pace combat of kh3 and kh2 so I didn't really enjoy playing it for long

You're absolutely right. Especially with how broken he is if he keeps his power when going into the sleeping worlds. Xemnas? Oh, don't worry. He can summon two other Keyblades with Judgement Triad, use Zone of Ruin, Mega Flare, tons of other attacks. If he can swap weapons too, he has Oathkeeper for removing status effects, Zero/One for peer power and able to attack from a distance, Lionheart for sheer attack speed and Metal Chocobo for more strength. Honestly, I could absolutely believe Data Sora beats Xehanort as he has all of Sora's abilities from KH1 and Chain of Memories. Add the other books to Data Sora and you basically have the strongest version of Sora if he never lost his memories.

@@smugaru With how ReCoded ended, it ties the loose ends leftover from Chain of Memories. However, I would still like to have more Data Sora. We did get Data Sora 2.0 in KH3, but he never really talked. Seeing how Sora would react to meeting himself would be interesting. Like a Hyrule Warriors/DynastyWarriors/Pirate Warriors type game with a bunch of mob fights. Of course, Nomura would want it to work story wise, not just 'oh, it's a side game, not important to the story'. Still, it would be pretty fun. Also allows us to play as many other characters, not just one as it usually is.

Yeah, the plot, story, and rehashed locations just about make it a skip honestly. When boiled down to just cutscenes with no actual game to play it really does become a skip though lmao 💀😂
