Drew, your sincerity, faith, search for answers, courage and self-acceptance impresses me. Some people quote Leviticus 20:13, :If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." The problem for those supporting the anti-gay verse is that no one follows most verses in Leviticus. People are not being put to death for cursing their mother and father in verse 9, nor for adultery in verse 10. They are not performing animal sacrifices per chapters 1-9, nor are they breaking dishes when someone has a venereal disease per chapter 15. When we read the new testament gospels we find that those who upheld Mosaic law were the ones out to harm and kill Jesus. He healed on the sabbath, his disciples weren't fasting and he didn't follow Leviticus 20:10 where those caught in adultery are to be killed. He introduced new teachings to replace the old, John 13:34, "A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another." In life there are times when we are alone and can practice being celibate, but there are times when it is a blessing to have a real friend and lover. Rod McKuen would say words similar to the following at the end of every act. "It does not matter who you love or how you love, but that you love. The good in man is God made manifest and loving is the contribution to that good and to that only God. For in the end the act of loving anyone is the act of loving God."

I was deeply moved by your coming out story, Drew, and am glad that you are now at peace with yourself. Unless a person goes through the coming out experience himself, it's hard to explain it to others. I'm glad you survived it and admire your courage in what obviously was a difficult time for you. Hi Drew, I'm just now seeing this video for the first time. The video is very heart wrenching. I wish that I could have been there years ago when you needed someone to talk to. But that wasn't in the plan for us. Anyway, know that you are loved by so many, and it's a wholesome love. Please make the right choices in the future and be happy with what God made you to be. This was so inspiring to hear! You are so courageous and I'm sure you have helped so many people. As someone who has wrestled with this for many many years I am so pleased for you, that you have been so honest and you have so much life ahead of you to express who you are. Thank you Drew for your inspiration!

Being gay or whatever sexual orientation an individual has is what the Almighty God had made that person to be from conception (as in hormonal imbalance if that may be the contention of some). Taking that into biblical perspective, everybody should glorify God and obey His Words whatever IMPERFECTIONS you are born with. Glorify God with who and what you are. People who are born blind, lame, deft, mute, with cerebral palsy or any other imperfections but chose to glorify God for who or what they are are more blessed than normal people who doesn't give glory to God. It is even a sin to blame God for such imperfections as it is His Divine Sovereignty for things to be so for His divine purpose. As what the Holy Scripture says in John 9:2-3 - 2 His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that caused him to be born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned. This happened so that God's work might be revealed in him". It is not being a homosexual (or otherwise) that makes one a sinner but their Sodomic practices, lifestyles and copulating with the same sex as opposed to God's perfect design. As what has God has designed us to be, a man to be married to a woman and produce offspring. A homosexual can say that they could adopt a baby and therefore call that baby their own - legally, but still the baby is not of their own flesh and blood. The subsequent bad repercussion is when the child, after reaching the age of knowledge and comprehension that he is not of his parents flesh and blood and had experienced hurt or even a slightest unintentional mistreatment from them, will conclude that he is being mistreated because he or she is not their true child. It might cause the child to think he is inferior than others, and might lose self esteem or might even have arrogant behavior and suicidal tendencies. I admire and respect Pastor Danny Cortez who chose to be straight despite his tendencies marry a wife and hoping he will encourage his son to do as well in obedience to our Almighty God. Our imperfect physical and mental tendencies does not give us the RIGHT to pursue our comfort or well being as we choose and thereby departing from what God is teaching us, for if it is so, how can we reason with pedophiles, serial killers and others with dangerous tendencies. As an absolute truth, LET US ALL GLORIFY GOD WITH WHO OR WHAT WE ARE BY OBEYING HIS TEACHINGS AND COMMANDMENTS. Let us all respect and love one another as we praise, worship, love and obey our Almighty God forever!!!

Being born gay (yes, you're born that way) is the same as being born left-handed, or born brown-eyed, blonde, brunette or black-haired. Too many use their religion to judge and condemn others, but they're not worthy of listening to. Be strong, be yourself and be a good person. You'll be fine.

Drew, I am moved by your story. My father and grandfather were Baptist ministers; I am an ordained Baptist minister myself, and was 80 years old before I figured out I am gay--it took me that long because of the brain-washing I went through at the hands of people who used the bible as a weapon rather than as an instrument of peace and love and healing. You have a significant head start on me and have. Your father understands the spirit of Jesus a whole lot better than many--you are fortunate! I am saddened that you went through so much anguish--just as I did--trying desperately to be good and do the right thing. Many years ago when I was at Baylor University, Dr. J. B. Tidwell--one of the great pillars of Texas Baptist history--gathered all of us preacher boys in the chapel to share his wisdom with us. One of the things he said has stuck with me these six decades since: "Brethren, even preachers should tell the truth!" You and your father tell the truth.
