    CCI primers are nickel plated and the hardest to set off. cant get any of them to go off in BLR 308. Federals are the softest.

    My FA Perfect Seat Hand Primer docs says the primer pocket of 308/7.62x51 is 0.2085 " which seems to be correct while the CCI no 34 primer measures on average s 0.211" . They are a very tight fit. Almost scary how much pressure it takes to seat them. I am waiting for a primer to take off on me but hope they dont.

    I am surprised you got such poor grouping with Lapua...that is what the majority of world class F-class (bench rest) shooters use. In general, Lapua, Peterson is considered the highest quality brass made. Norma(Nozler) and Lake City are are also good quality.

    The change in velocity can affect fine tuning of that particular load, I would evaluate velocity SD with 2 different powders(1 single based, 1double based).This could be done using a simple 30-30, 460SW, 44mag. Only maths of a good chronograph can tell the truth. Shooting groups has to do with accuracy, accuracy comes from repeatability, this is what a primer can affect. Nice video anyway as you have put speed data. 👍🏻

    @Copper Pill Reloading Did you start this test with the current best load workup for your specific rifle? If not, what did you expect to learn, without a standard, or control sample to compare too? Extremely new to reloading, and I am missing the thought process.

    • @barrygrant2907
      @barrygrant2907 3 роки тому

      I believe his purpose was merely to show effects of different primer on identical loads, not necessarily which produced the best group. In that case, it really doesn't matter if it was his best or worse loading, just the differences in "that" load depending on primer used. Changing any component can invalidate any "best" load.

    Interesting spread between the primers, I haven’t tried my reloads yet I’ve been loading a shit load of 30.30, with three different primers and three different powders. Primers,br-2, rem210, and Winchester regular large rifle. The powders are 8208 xbr, leverevolution, and H335, bullets-flatnose sr, round nose Hornady, and the 160gr ftx. All loaded at midrange charge. I am new to the reload game, and I am hooked 🤷🏽‍♂️👍🏽💪🏽

    I’m amazed how accurate the scar is with no muzzle brake. What scope are you using? I’m looking to invest in a high end scope for long distance shooting and hunting. Curious to what you are using. Dig the work bench and stickers! Thanks!

    • @copperpillreloading3595
      @copperpillreloading3595 5 років тому

      •LUNATICRIDER209• Thanks man! The SCAR is definitely capable of impressive some accuracy. Muzzle brakes in of themselves don’t necessarily make a rifle more accurate. They more so aid the shooter by reducing felt recoil. The scope is the Vortex Strike Eagle 3-18x. It’s a budget minded scope but I’ve been able to make hits out to 1000yrds. For a truly high-end scope, look into the Night Force and Leupold or the Vortex Razor series. Those will set you back quite a bit more money but the glass will be top notch. Thanks for watching!

    Hey CPR, Interesting video. I did one similar in 6.5 Creed here: ua-cam.com/video/ypI6D-i57uk/v-deo.html I am interested if you do some more work in this arena what you plan to do next. I have banged my head against the wall to think of a realistic test that takes into account the most factors and not shoot 1000 rounds to decide. What I found though too is that Magnum primes almost in all cases give me better velocity statistics, as always YMMV. Thanks for your efforts!

      I’m definitely going to to do a few more videos in this series. 5 round groups is certainly the bare minimum when doing testing like this. It provides but a peek through the window at what your widespread results will. Of course there are many other variables that come into play, but I like to keep it simple as possible. I may do a magnum vs standard primer comparison in the future. I’ve always wondered myself and it’s a very common question online. Thank you for he feedback!

    This was a great comparison, thanks for taking the time. I have just dived into loading .308 for my Savage 10TR. I think I’ve found the right load, but now I need to find ways of getting better consistently out of it. I’ve been using range pick up federal brass and had decent results, I’m curious if the brass from my boxes of Federal Gold Medal Match will be any better. I’d love to see a similar video on primers - is there a real difference between them?

    • @copperpillreloading3595

      I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was definitely a learning experience. Most of my reloading is done with range pick up brass it works well for medium range shooting. A primer comparison is a great idea. I’ll have pick up a few different brands up and see what works best.

    What gas jet size did you get from Parker Mountain Machine? I am hoping to switch the factory 1.5mm gas jet to the 1.35mm so I can shoot unsuppressed or suppressed without any function problems. I own a 16" barrel (black) FN Scar 17s with a Geissele Super Scar trigger, KDG Sidelok Modular Optic Mount - 1″, and a Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42 scope with a HSR-4 reticle. I just purchased a (discontinued) 2016 Silencerco SAKER 762 from my local gun shop. The Giessele Super Scar trigger is like night and day for the Scar 17s. The trigger pull is around 3.5 lbs. compared to the stock 8 lb. trigger. I purchased the Super Scar trigger from Giessele on sale(25% off) on Black Friday after Thanksgiving in 2017. Giessele usually have their triggers on sale several times a year around the holidays. Great (500/1000 yard) shooting with the SCAR 17s stock trigger with the Vortex Strike Eagle 3-18x44 scope in the West Desert Shooter posted video! ua-cam.com/video/D3XkvPHJ4zc/v-deo.html

      metall1969 If I remember correctly I ended up choosing a 1.30mm. I bought a few different sizes and took them all to the range. Tested them all with a handful of factory ammo and reloads to make sure it cycled reliably. I’m keeping my eyes out for the next big Giessele sale. I missed out last year. The Saker is what I originally wanted to buy but I cheaped out and bought the Specwar. It works great but it’s a boat anchor. And thanks! 1,000 yards was certainly a challenge. I went in thinking that I probably wouldn’t land a hit but we managed to dial it in and make a few.
