Numbers? They are "Symbols" that are "Signs" not numbers because correct "Numbers" come from internal angles as you would know if you were to know, your maths. I was taught this as a five-year-old, and numbers, are zero to nine are the ten numbers.
This DysCalculator is truly amazing! I’m so excited to share it with my 13-year-old to see how he feels about it. There are so few resources available in the US, and I’m trying so hard to help him navigate and overcome the challenges he faces. This tool could be a game-changer for us-thank you!
Super interesting bloke and a pioneer in an area where so many simply fall by the wayside. Maths for me as taught at school was a constant misery, which intensified as I advanced through the years. Fortunately I left school and fell into a job as a computer programmer, super interesting from day 1 and little to do with maths ! Hooray !
Right start math makes subatising easier than this dice method.
Great that you have found a way you find works for you/your students.
I saw that someone shared this video on LinkedIn. I was diagnosed last year with inattentive ADHD and shortly thereafter that I had dyscalculia. I honestly thought there was something majorly wrong with me that I couldn't remember how to do multiplication tables, geometry, count change back to customers let alone spreadsheets and formulas. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to subscribe to the Dyscalculia network now :) BTW- it's interesting to try and explain this type of neurodiversity w/ friends, families and I have not talked about it at work.
Hi! Great job at explaining negatives! Quick question: the little negative and positive signs are actually used in classrooms? In Portugal i have never seen them...or is it a trick you should use at the beggining?
This is great! I wish I had gotten my hands on this book last year. I would have had a better chance of passing my upcoming important maths test for uni, which is required to graduate my degree to be a primary teacher. I am only just learning about dyscalculia as a 31-year-old adult. I find it easier to teach math concepts than actually performing them myself.
This is really useful. I'm studying to be a maths teacher but already work as a tutor. I am working with adults and I am doing a project aimed at getting adults to use multiplication instead of repetitve addition. This has formalised a lot of the things I was thinking and helped me understand how to approach the problem better
We are so glad you found it useful. The pre-skills checklist mentioned is available on our website blog page too!
One of the reasons why I prefer paying by card, as any change more than 50-75p starts to get rather complicated for me. Interesting to see what the assessment is like though, so ta for that! 🙂
Thank you for your comment
I love this! I will use it. Thank you 🙏
We are gad you found it useful!
Thank you so much.
That was a good interview. Yes, it does as I know that I went through school not knowing why I was so poor at maths (and other related things). It's only been in the past couple of years that I've begun to realise that I may have this, along with other conditions!
We are glad to be raising awareness 😀
Great explanation and easy project to implement for all.
Love this. I do this with the parts from the Learning Resources Pizza Fraction Fun game. I get ride of the game bits and just use the pizza bits.
My favourite is Baby Animals top trumps because children and families just love it - perfect for approx age 6. And suddenly children can understand and order decimals which is amazing! It just happens....
Good way of learning 👌🏽
This was so clear and will be very helpful to many!
What a great man Steve Chinn is. The idea of the high interest age / low ability maths books is superb - and I too absolutely hate that so much material out there for low ability English and maths is filled with jumping bunnies and clowns.
Absolutely :)
Great ideas! Thank you!
Thank you - hope you get one and have lots of fun!
🤣 It always results in debate!
Lollipop 7!! The controversy !!! :)
