Well-paved Jackson cul-de-sac to get makeover thanks to powerful lawmaker who bought home there
In a capital city infamous for its crumbling roads and lack of money to fix them, a powerful lawmaker helped steer $400,000 in state taxpayer funds to repave a small, already well-paved northeast Jackson cul-de-sac where he owns a house.

Переглядів 63221 день тому
A Mississippi Today investigation reveals that at least $7 million in state taxpayer funds have improved the private country club neighborhood and golf course where Rep. Trey Lamar, one of Mississippi’s most powerful lawmakers, lives. Taxpayers are also footing the bill for another state-funded project that will repave a quiet Jackson street where Lamar also owns a house. Read the full story: b...
How Trey Lamar brought home millions to Tate County

Powerful House chairman Rep. Trey Lamar brought home millions to his Tate County - even while similarly sized counties and even much larger areas across the state received little. Lamar’s earmarking is part of a system of legislative maneuvering that offers little transparency and fairness to anyone outside the reaches of political power. Cassandra Wilson is an absolute gift. Her album New Moon Daughter is one of my favorite albums. Life is wild, I was listening to this album every day for 2 months straight while I was in Meridian, Mississippi when I was 19 while at my A school for the United States. The music is timeless, and her artistry is magic.

    I have no issue with her. In both her court statement and later book, she stated that he put his hands on her and made a sexually suggestive comment. She told her husband. In 1955, women had little power over their husband's actions. When her husband dragged Till in front of her, enraged at his victim, she acknowledged him. That was the extent of her guilt. We act like she killed him. I told my husband when a bunch of black dudes followed me down the street catcalling me a few years ago. If he took matters into his own hands that would be his issue, not mine. Stop blaming the victim. It's misogynistic to see her as the problem. Her husband was the problem. She was assaulted by a kid from the north who didn't understand southern politics, and told her husband about it.

      Oh you mean the stuff she later said didn't happen? Right, total victim here. Not the CHILD who was beaten and shot. She knew full well what would happen to any person of color who got accused of anything against a white person. Your comment reeks of racism.

    Shot a man in the mouth, and sexually assaulted and beat both of them.. Forgiveness, I think people have that word misunderstood and over utilized. You haven't even grieved yet, and furthermore your abuser does not need nor deserve your forgiveness, let alone publicly. Who else has been terrorized by this goon squad?

    In a neighboring county, These sheriffs now are getting to where they hold this position then seem to be completely out of presence of the public eye. Can't get them on phone and their secretaries "try' to cover for them, "try" to handle confidential complaints, and then screen all their calls, and if it is a call that is confidential, 30 minutes later she blabs her mouth and others already know it thru the network of friends. . . It is unacceptbale. Unprofessional. Vote them out!

  • @user-dn9vd9xg9p
    @user-dn9vd9xg9p Місяць тому

    That sounds like a neighboring county's sheriff where he is totally inaccessible, calls screened, no one even knows he exists until its lunchtime and sees him meeting his deputies for lunch just about everyday. . It is ridicuous. The former sheriff gave out his cell # for people to call him, and he accepted all calls, totally accessible. This is based on personal opinion, actual personal experiences by many friends. Competition is needed at the voting booth, and always remember never to lazily vote for an elected official of any kind just because they are an incumbent (have an "I" beside their name). When you vote ask yourself, is your area patrolled or, are they just patrolling only just within suburb city limits where there is already munipality police available (does that make sense)? Is the only time you see a presence is when it's lunchtime and many deputy cars are in the suburb city limits far from othe rural areas that need patrolling? How many times do you see patrolling in rural areas? Whem the sheriffs dept tells someone to call the city police then why are they patrolling the cities (that doesn't make sense)? Is your sheriff accessible ? Is your sheriff and deputies consistently present around the community and in rural areas where there is hardly a presence at all? Do you see your deputies patrolling only a specific area of rural areas or all of it? Does your sheriffs dept complain if you call them to come and act unprofessional by stating I can't believe i had to drive our here in the country for this (demeaning the significance to whats important to the public)? Do they need to be reminded they work for the entire county not a few areas of the county! Do they needed to be reminded they work for the public that pays their salary? Need competition!

      @Simply_maria24 Liar. Obviously you know LESS than nothing about this case. Carolyn didn't do any of what you said. When Roy returned from Texas, he overheard the young boys in town, bragging about Emmett sexually assaulting the tiny 21 year old beauty queen. Roy went home and confronted Carolyn, but Carolyn denied it. Roy then tried to get Carolyn to identify Emmett, but she refused. Carolyn knew that Roy was a racist Democrat, and was afraid of what he could do to Emmett. Roy and J.W. drove out to Moses Wright's house, and it was Emmett who identified himself to Roy. Shame on you for lying.
