Checking assisted braking device is threaded correctly
Переглядів 2674 роки тому
To check the assisted braking device is threaded correctly, always lock and release the locking mechanism before the leader leaves the ground. This can be done by pulling up on the live rope with one hand and having the other hand on the dead rope to check the braking mechanism engages. It is also possible to check that the device locks without a hand on the brake rope. It can be useful to know...

    One other thing this video is good for showing. Notice the difference between their movements when clipping. The person on the left pulled up a bit too fast which caused the belayers device to lock up briefly (you can tell because the rope became taught and the lower draws are flying around all of a sudden). This is especially true if it is a brake assist type like a grigri. The person on the right is nice an smooth and just enough slower to make belaying much easier. If you are on easy terrain like this there is no need to be fast about the pull to clip.

    Oh. My. God. I’m the person on the left. This explains so much! I’m new and I’m struggling and now I see why. I thought those big steps were desirable. I’m flexible and thought I was using that to my advantage. But really I’m just exhausting myself. This is great. Ughhh. I wish you had a whole series of videos like this. Thank you 🙏🏽

    This is the most interesting approach to training climbing I have seen so far. This video with climbing analysis is worth much more than dozens of other videos from other channels. Your channel is underrated. Is there any chance to see similar video in the future? How about analysis of climbing technique from videos sent by subscribers?

      I agree 💯👏👏 this is such a unique approach. No other channels are doing this. I learned so much just from the couple of videos like this.

    what's the reasoning behind using/introducing the word "down" here when the words "take" or "tight" would fulfil the same role and are far less ambiguous?k x

    Unfortunately your draw has biners facing opposite sides which is potentially dangerous... So not a good demonstration of safety here

    • @rockandsun-climbingholiday9636
      @rockandsun-climbingholiday9636 3 роки тому

      Can you please explain why this is dangerous?

    • @phaphua2022
      @phaphua2022 2 роки тому

      @@rockandsun-climbingholiday9636 Because both biners of the quickdraw should not face the climbing direction. So if the biners face opposite sides, one of them will always face the climbing direction which is not good.

    ...also, whilst in this clip it's a very short moment, I find it vital (especially when I'm working with folk in a rock environment which is not their usual haunt ) to establish the 'check' - visual and physical - which TM demonstrated before releasing the original sling...that wee moment of pause is vital.

    Good way to demonstrate using easy angled ground - it's far harder when on steeper ground so this has to be sorted before you need it for real.
