A channel mostly about video game music, one of the most important parts of a game and certainly for me the best and fastest way to fall back into nostalgia for a game you loved.
So sit back, have a drink and enjoy! Comments and subscriptions are all welcome!

Gorgeous and rich, it really hammers home that you can't judge a game by its platform.
Sounds like a shop theme from the Xenosaga universe
"Let's f_cking do this" the theme.
There's been quite a renaissance of awesome Metroidvanias and while I didn't have time to play some of the most popular ones that came out in 2024, I did give Biomorph a playthrough earlier in the year. The game has great presentation and has obvious inspirations from Hollow Knight, but at this point which game in the genre doesn't? The game controls great and has a nice morph system that allows you to transform into the monsters you kill. Each area contains 3 unique monsters you can transform into and centers its puzzles around their mechanics which allows you not to feel overwhelmed with all the transformations, but I do wish you could freely transform into any monster you have instead of needing to equip them at Save Points. Also, needing save point upgrades to teleport to them felt more bothersome than anything. While the game has good difficulty, the morphs quickly became useless for combat and I strictly relied on them for traversal. Kudos to the screenshot map markers that were brought up by Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, and I appreciate the rooms on the map turning gold when they're cleared. A meaty game that gave me 20+ hours of fun!
Is the "In Motion" in the video description supposed to be crossed out, or is it some weird auto-formatting caused by the dashes before and after? ^^
The auto-formatting definitely. I changed it in the description, thanks!
Reminds me of something from Octopath Traveler
I really enjoyed this game and its layers up to a point. I got used to the bubble movement (I only ever used a gamepad; probably heck on a keyboard) and I enjoyed trying to find all the eggs. There were many times where I knew some secret existed in an area/screen and I spent way too long trying to figure out how to do it with the tools I had. I eventually had to look up how to solve certain puzzles and those unfortunately clued me in on how to use the "b ball"; which I wish I had found out myself. I gave up trying to find bunnies after I looked up one solution and realized how cryptic the rest were going to be.
Hey SupraDarky, thanks for featuring more obscure video game music. I'm probably never going to play many of the games you feature but at least I'd be able to listen to the music!
Hello SupraDarky! Thanks again for showing us all of these video games and their soundtracks. Lately I’ve only been playing Pokémon games (Pokémon Violet currently), but I used to play other franchises in the past more frequently as well when I was younger (Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, etc.).
Oh wow only Pokémon games, and you don't feel burnt out on them? I'm sure you'd enjoy going back to some of those other franchises as well! Thanks for your good words.
@ I’ve always been quite obsessed with Pokémon, so I would say that I’ve never really felt burnt out on the franchise. There are currently 1,025 Pokémon, and I think I could probably list all of them haha. I guess I may be an extreme example, but because I love the franchise so much, I don’t think I’ll ever feel burnt out playing Pokémon in the future.
@@CoreyYan93do you do any type of challenge runs or things like that 😊. Or what keeps bringing you back to pokemon specifically?
@@AirsickDolphin Mainly the Shiny hunting hahaha. Also, I’m the type of person who likes to take his time with video games, and also explore every nook and cranny. But yeah, when I’m finished the main storyline in Pokémon games, I always love Shiny hunting!
I'm very glad to see how successful this game became and word of mouth is the main reason I played it myself. It's a very memorable game with great world setting, though I admit I only understood about 70% of what was going on until I did some reading on the internet. By connecting the dots I thankfully understood most of the general plot, but sometimes it did feel like the writing was too obscure which in a way reminded me of Analgesic Productions' writing (Anodyne, Sephonie). The gameplay itself is pretty much kept at a minimum and the main hub felt too big which meant a lot of time wasted running around. Awesome voice acting and characters with an emotional storyline are what raised this game to such high regards. Great soundtrack as well. It's the kind of game that makes you want to read more on it afterwards and I can definitely see why some people have it as their GOTY. I will say, apart from wanting to support the team, it's something you can very well experience just by watching a playthrough. Hekki grace!
Kind of reminds a bit of Dragon Quest, Sugiyama-esque; I like it- and it'd be great to see more uploads with gameplay footage alongside :). Thanks for doing what you do, SupraDarky.
So happy that you enjoyed it, my goal is to learn basic japanese and this will be my first game that I play in japanese!
The music did not have to go this hard for a slice of life game, but I'm glad it did.
This game came to my attention late last year when I learned that it also includes a sweet cover of a The Pillows song. Funny Bunny I think is the track it covers. The Pillows themselves have also just called it quits after their last concert a few days ago.
I've never played any of the Boku no Natsuyasumi games so I was happy to see Natsu-Mon get an English release. It's a very relaxing experience where you play as a boy during a summer vacation in Japan's countryside. You spend 30 days exploring, fishing, catching bugs and solving simple mysteries. I activated the Relaxing mode to make days longer and it's definitely enough to do mostly everything, and it does extend the game to 20+ hours of playtime. The world was surprisingly big to explore (even more if you get the DLC) and I especially liked how you can climb everything Zelda-style. Sometimes I feel like I just need these kind of breezy experiences so this was perfect.
Did you play Attack of the Friday Monsters before? That's at least by the same guy and shares a similar vibe.
@@KeeperBvK2 He did, that game made his GOTY list of 2013
Kind of reminds a bit of Dragon Quest, Sugiyama-esque; I like it- and it'd be great to see more uploads with gameplay footage alongside :). Thanks for doing what you do, SupraDarky.
@@KeeperBvK2 As mentioned I did play that game so it's a good call! Natsu-Mon is much more expansive and enjoyable gameplay-wise but I did prefer Attack of the Friday Monsters' story overall, compared to the circus component in this one.
@@SupraDarkyVGM Thanks! Sounds like Natsu-Mon could also be my cup of tea. But yeah, Attack of the Friday Monsters is special in its story and setting in that it so elegantly stays vague in whether everything is actually happening or is just part of children's overboarding phantasy. I loved it...apart from 100%ing it with the card game...
This makes me think of the old Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing "game" back in the day they used in school. This would've got the kids attention so much more, I mean hell if it does as an adult it would've for sure as a kid, though I could see parents not being a fan of this being used in schools.
It’s such a great game with lovely tracks. One of my favorite games
NIce, I only knew the PS1 opening
How would you say it compares to Tunic? Were Animal Well's deeper layer puzzles more obscure?
Much more obscure. Tunic for me was the perfect amount of layers and while I did use a guide for a few spots, I felt like I could have done everything on my own. With Animal Well, there is no way I would have ever figured it all out.
@@SupraDarkyVGM Dang, well good to know what I'm getting into at least, thanks.
Only finally got around to playing Fez the year prior, which might have enhanced my enjoyment of Animal Well quite a bit. The realization moments felt very good, even if I hit an eventual wall during some sections well beyond the first couple layers. Part of me wishes there was more of a soundtrack to the game, but the sound design was too good and it would've been a crime for it to be overshadowed.
I have yet to play this, but it is high on my priority list. I've pretty much avoided all spoilers thus far, but this theme is definitely giving seriously dark vibes. Guess it's not a happy little game about fuzzy creatures living in a well lol.
I'm always amazed when I learn that a game was completely made by one person, even the music. Undertale comes to mind immediately. This game has impeccable atmosphere and it's easily my favorite aspect. It feels nostalgic but has that uniquely dark side to it, helped by the ambient soundscape. It is one of those "tons of puzzle pieces and you slowly figure it out" games that always feel inspired by Fez, and I do have to say that I'm just... not very good at those. Animal Well has tons of layers to it but frankly I only cared to go through its first layer which was satisfying enough, and looked at UA-cam videos for the rest. The game has some very cool mechanics but some of them were frustrating including the bubble, and it could have used more save/teleport points though I understand that the whole map was meticulously made to take into account the various puzzles/layers. Very memorable game.
I'm pretty sure I heard keygen music based on this. or perhaps its just the samples
I've never seen a top-down Metroidvania but I'm glad someone did something different. There's already too much of the same.
This is a topdown Metroidvania which feels very natural. It was hard for me to put down and I 100%'d it in a few sittings (12 hours total), which is always a good sign. This is a game that does everything well, but at the same time nothing truly stands out. It has nice puzzles but they could be harder, the combat is simple but surprisingly difficult due to limited health and no way to recover outside of save points. The music is atmospheric but could have use stronger melodies. The biggest issue for me is the level design: because the stages are built entirely from square and rectangular platforms, the biomes all end up feeling too similar. Thankfully bosses are very fun and require you to learn their patterns without being overwhelming. The story with all the animal friends is also fun and surprisingly emotional, and how can you not like playing as a cool cat! Overall an entertaining game to 100%.
I've been following your channel for a long time, even before that sad day, and it makes me so happy to see that you're still going strong. That's so awesome! This channel is truly a hidden gem on UA-cam. I really appreciate this! Peace, my friend!
Sounds like something from William Ackerman
Have you played Reverse Collapse? One of the best games I've played in years.
Sorry for the off-topic question, but is your pfp a Pareidolia form of Pepe? Because I sure see a Pepe there.
@@Truly12p Might be 🤔
Adding this one to the Relaxin' playlist! Arco is a very interesting strategy RPG with a unique spin on its combat. By the time it all clicked, my thoughts on its difficulty went from initially thinking it's hard to realizing it has great balance, especially when you understand how important taking a turn to run to a better position is. I also liked how much money and experience actually mattered, but I never cared for the ghost system. The decisions you take outside of combat offer a nice risk/reward, though you can always exploit saves before deciding (which I chose not to do). Excellent soundtrack with some standout vocal tracks as well. The writing and the adventure itself felt better than the overarching story, which I felt ended too abruptly after the buildup. As you can see, the pixel art can be super charming but there were many sections where it felt too minimalistic. A very charming game with memorable interactions, I'd take more of those!
Wow! Great first entry in the top ranking!
Hey, man. Was wondering if the anniversary-tributes are around anywhere. Absolutely loved those (even contacted you when the 5 year tribute never dropped, lol); they're like nostalgic inception to the point I keep waiting for certain songs to be interrupted with the next one from the medley.
Oh wow I actually had forgotten about those! I remember back in the days, Dailymotion had contacted me to clone my channel on their platform. From a quick look, that clone still seems to be around including those tribute videos.
Always like these end of year lists, not so much to see what is at the top or such (though that's fun too), but because it's a nice way to also find out about games that got glossed over or I've never heard of.
Groovy!
Here begins my Top 15 of 2025! Wordle/RPG is a mix I never knew I wanted. Cryptmaster immediately oozes style with its black & white presentation and slick soundtrack. This is obviously best played on a keyboard as you have to write to perform actions in or out of combat. Listening to Cryptmaster's voiced responses to things you write never got old and the game's humor/writing is easily its best aspect. Special mention to Maz, the bard in your team with a beautiful voice! I did use the assist modes including Turnbased battles to make it easier. A lot of the riddles were just too hard for me without these assist features, which are given to open treasure chests you find. Because you learn more and more combat skills as you play and you need to type them out in battles to perform them, I often found myself reusing the same skills that worked well enough. I just couldn't remember all the skill names and what they did, and I didn't want to constantly open up the Skills Menu to break the flow of combat. Overall a 10+ hours well spent with a lot of smiles!
Goes crazy
Has a winter Christmasy vibe to it
Shaun, create a void. Never met the Krusty...
Yooo, is that Alucard??
Getting some Ghost in the Shell vibes from this.
Very beautiful and haunting.
It seems like Furyu have been behind a few RPGs like this one or Monark (also on the list), but none of them have really been critical or commercial successes. They do have their set of good reviews on Steam at least, and they seem to have nice production values including the soundtracks.
Rest easy the original VA of Unca Scrooge This was his last project
idk if its just using the same arpeggio or if its actually sampled, but the first part reminds me a lot of deja vu by mort garson
This was the first non handheld game I got to play that was strictly mine and not my brother's so it felt special to me at the time. I think the music is still pretty good but the gameplay has not aged well at all. I remember it taking me years of playing on and off to finally beat it.
I can't get over how the guy in the back looks like Pegasus from Yugioh with horns.
I have vague memories of renting this game, playing a few hours and dropping it. It's only later that I saw how it was often cited as the worst RPG on the console, but I'm not sure I would go that far. I especially remember its high encounter rate and its difficulty, as well as the disappointing graphics. It's Camelot Software's first fully developed game, so it's good to see how much they improved afterwards!
This game is so great. So many different mini-games like the other PS2 games from Level 5. They are still my favorite developer.
Always loved this game. Horribly underrated too.
5 stars!
