I have done this last year. The polished /chrome paint from restoleum matched great but was funky and never dried properly after weeks would still leave a finger print??. I thought about getting the center caps wrapped but i was turned down by a local shop lol… cheers So I ended up getting new wheels out of frustration… Im in the 503 also had a 91 celica hatch. There the best, tons of room.
I've painted things and had that issue before. Usually it's bad adhesion of the paint or the surface was contaminated. I might have to give that Restoleum a try and see if it works.
@@retrotimes8540 got the paint off amazon, rustoleum bright coat chrome. Read through the reviews. I Have two cans you can have lol tried another can…same results. Durability was a concern. Good luck sir.

Hey! I have the same wheels, however mine are not painted (like yours were) but they are still rather dull. In my instance would you just recommend the Rupes polishing compound with the bigfoot buffer and forget the wet sanding? was the wet sanding just to remove the paint or to aid the polished look? Thanks!
The wet sanding was for both removing the paint and to aid in the polished look. It will be difficult to get the same results without stepped wet sanding like I did in the video.
@@retrotimes8540 ok. Did you dry sand before wet sanding? And is there a reason you didn’t use a power sander?
@@harryeggington7928 1.) Dip wheels in acetone to remove paint 2.) Dry sand 1000 grit with block 3.) Wet sand 2000 grit with block 4.) Wet sand 3000 grit with block 5.) Polish using Rupes polisher + compound. To get in between the spokes do it by hand without block. Using a power sander requires good control and technique to make it look even. I attempted to use a power sander and it didn't turn out as well as doing it by hand. By hand it takes a lot longer but you can really control how even/smooth it turns out. Also added cost on buying a quality power sander.
How do you remove the plastic center cap? I see there is a small rectangular hole, do you pry it off with a flat head screwdriver?@@retrotimes8540

Thank you! All oem paint, the original owner took great care of it. I polished the paint then put multiple layers of wax to give it that shine.

That's a lot of work, looks good! I think there are some pretty good "chrome look" spray paint products you could try on the center caps.
Thank you! Not sure if chrome spray will match, I may give it a go.
Nice job on the wheels. I had a 1998 anniversary in white. 2nd best handling car I've ever owned (Mini 1275GT was the best owned and basement Peugeot 106 borrowed very, very close). If you would take some advice, change your tyres. Yokohama A022s were designed for that chassis (I don't know if you can still get them). When running on them, mine never budged from the line (and I used to drive very, very quickly 24 years ago). Also Goodyear Eagle F1s were very, very close in terms of feel. Keep up the good work on the SW20
Thanks for watching! I actually really wanted the Yokohama's. I tried getting some at the time but they were out of stock everywhere with a long back order wait time. I think only the Yokohama's available now at tirerack/discount tire is the a052.
@@retrotimes8540 Mate, if that's the update of the A022, I would trust it. That, or as I said F1s. You won't get 9500 miles out of a set of rears, that is SW20 life. Then fun that comes with that is pricesless (esp as you have a turbo, which still shocks people 25 years later)

The Red Mk1 MR2, awesome! I parked mine 25 years ago, it's now in my garage and starting restoration. Finding parts is a bit tricky. And not looking forward to dropping the gas tank to repair/Replace the fuel pump. All the cars there are great, what a fantastic meet!❤
The FEED shop looks so peaceful, it is located just next to a farm.

Gorgeous dude just Gorgeous I have a 1985 red one it's 99.9 complete because I'm missing some cosmetic parts such as a antenna, ashtray, rear trunk holder, Left electric window trim for the buttons, right lower cover recliner handle and that's it I've been looking for this parts without any luck do you have extra parts? Hey, I don't have any spare parts. But there is a guy in the UK that sells exclusively AW11 parts. He has a large collection of first generation mr2's that he parts out.
