What do the small pieces between the joists do
how much does something like this cost?
U tear up all the floor put down rock to grade then plastic then pour a concrete floor in whole house no more moldy sub floor and u can leave concrete ass finished floor stained sealed
Alot more expensive but better
@@Cheetahpuma-g2e i guess if u cant pour it yourself but this will never be a healthy home for someone to live in mold box as it sits
Excellent job! Didn't have to say a word and I understood the whole process! Thank you, fellas!
I have a 1976 2440 no loader
Great to see any channel from ky I'm in clark County ky
No vapor barrier? Putting a house together with deck screws? Never change, Kentucky.
We're currently re-doing the skirting of the home and once finished, we'll go in and put the vapor barrier before putting in the subfloor. Any deck screws were used temporarily before structural screws were used in the rim joists. Thanks!
@@cripplecreekfarmsky faith in humanity restored. Best of luck!
No sill plate in this older construction?
None. The majority of these older homes in my area did not use a sill plate. There are two small additions that were added to the home years later, that utilize a sill plate.
Vapor barrier.............
We will be installing a vapor barrier before installing subfloor.
Vapor barrier...Helps stop the rot.
When this home was built, I’m guessing a vapor barrier wasn’t an option. One will be going down before subfloor is installed. 😆
Vapor barrier....Please
We're currently re-doing the skirting of the home and once its finished, we'll go in and put the vapor barrier before putting in the subfloor. Thank you for tuning in!
Not a battery issue. Gotta have your block heater plugged in.
Exactly!! Saves a lot of grinding with starter!!!
We've never had an issue with cold starts with that tractor. It's always fired up for us (even in single digit temperatures). Agreed though, once we've got electric down to the barns, we're going to leave it plugged in. Thanks for tuning in!
Rear blade would make quick work.do you get a lot of snow?
Some years we may get 3 or 4 inches in a season and others 3 to 4 inches in an hour. Agreed though, a 3 point blade is in our future. Thanks for tuning in!
Winter is only pretty to those who don’t have to get out in work in it. No snow days for farmers
It definitely adds a little more stress to the job!
Always good to find another KY channel!! I'm sure the goats will love their new digs! Nice job! -- J. Andre. / Old Iron Acres
Appreciate it J. Andre! The goats definitely are appreciating the cover with the roughly 10 inches of snow and 3/4'' of ice we ended up getting lol. Thanks for tuning in!
Looks more like fun than work.
Haha, sometimes it can be. But when you have that time consuming breakdown or random rain shower pop up, it can get you questioning why you do it lol. Appreciate you tuning in!
I can't take my eyes off this video, it's so great

Couple questions as a 27 year old who has never done any framing or flooring work, but i just bought a 1960 rock vaneer home. 1.) Do you not leave room for expansion when doing this type of framing/work? 2.) Would you do walls or subfloor next? 3.) Does there not need to be any support for the floor joists here? Why not? Thanks in advance. Loved the video.
1) I’m not sure what you’re asking about expansion on the framing? 2) putting a vapor barrier down in crawlspace before putting down subfloor. 3) I went back with what was there originally for floor joist due to spacing restraints and spaced @ 16” on center. I’ve not entirely ruled out some support out in the center of some larger rooms. Love to help you if I can. Thanks for the questions!
@cripplecreekfarmsky expansion in the joists. I noticed a few had to be tapped into position. The 16" blocks also seems snug. Will that not cause warping of the boards?
Pretty neat t see this done ,looks like a job well done ! Is that regular rot from old age ?
Appreciate that! Some of the damage was from moisture and the rest was from termites. Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
Great vid thanks
Appreciate that! Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
Thank you. Best video out there
Appreciate that! Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
What ? Are those doors on that Chevy stock?
No sir. There's a company called All Terrain Conversions out of Indiana who does the conversion. Thank you for tuning in and appreciate the question!
Nice work! We’re elbows deep in our old house renovation also (although you guys are probably done and moved in already) and watching you take that rotten wood was like deja vu. I wish we had stud walls like yours instead of the solid criscross barn wood we got. Thanks for sharing!
It's always a little more work than anticipated but worth it in the end! Appreciate you tuning in and sharing about your project! Sadly we are still far, far away from being done lol. Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
Did you put any plastic sheeting down on the ground to control the moisture?
Thanks for the question! We're going to apply the plastic sheeting once we finish the skirting on the home. Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
Wow that was a really high quality rebuild. The old stuff was almost completely gone it was so rotten. Awesome work
Appreciate that! That old stuff was pretty nasty. We've since had every inch of it treated for termites. Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
How many inches on center for those old wall studs?
They are 16'' center. Appreciate the question and for tuning in!
Wow, pretty much a home rebuild, especially pertaining to the floor. I didn't realize this project was going further than just a portion of the floor...but im also just started watching you do it. You do good work 👍
Thank you and appreciate you tuning in! The whole floor was in much worse shape than we initially thought. Hoping to have an update video before too long, stay tuned!
Awesome job but have you considered a battery powered nail gun? Would save you a ton of time
Thank you! We're just old school I guess lol
do you plan on putting a vaper barrier down and dig some of the dirt out, so it is not so close to the floor ?
We're looking at a few options at the moment. Right now we're working on the homes skirting, using an insulated material that will help. Hope to have a video before too long on it. Appreciate the questions!
Looks good. Our horses paw at the hay and literally are magicians getting things open so I built one the same dimensions but all wood. No sharp edges or anything to get caught on. All landscape timbers for rounded edges.
We may have to try that out next time! Thanks for the feedback!
Great video. What size bales are you building this for? Do you have a parts list or plans for purchase?
Thank you! This was for 4x5 hay rolls. Unfortunately, I do not have an itemized list of materials or plans to sell
Nice video
Appreciate it!
Great video. I hope I won't be going to that extent but my new project, assuming my offer gets accepted, starts in the new year. I know there is rot in one wall, top to bottom, but I'm hoping under the house just needs jacking and I can save all the old floors (approx 1870 build).
Good luck on your project! Hopefully this video will come in handy for you!
could you have filled the space under the floors with a concrete pour? how do you insulate under the floors?
Once plumbing is run, technically you could do a pour but I don't think we will. We won't have insulation in the floor joists but we are using an insulated material for the skirting of the home that will help. Hope to have a video before too long on it. Appreciate the questions!
@@cripplecreekfarmsky nice work!
Mower is doing a beautiful job!
Thank you! It's definitely been a good mower
Not a fan of John Deere rotary mowers, just my opinion. I always ran a Shulte 1500 XHD behind John Deere, good combination.
We've never had an issue or complaint with this HX mower. Shulte seems to be a good product too

hi , no more work, what happened after this video??
We have not been able to work on the home much but we'll have an update video soon!
Got some good info.thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Don't know your plans, but I would clean up all the rot and other debris under the house, and then treat everything, including the dirt, for termites. 14:44
That's exactly what we've done since this video
Think I would have cut thru the hardwood and subfloor together.😮
We weren't sure what was beneath so that's why we went layer by layer
For your safety, to keep the 4x on the jack from kicking out, screw a 2x to it and the stud. 😮6:13
That would probably help. We live on the wild side though lol
definitely....could you imagine the movement that would cause?
