Battle of the Cruise Ships: Anthem of the Seas VS The Celebrity Beyond
Was it loud at all? Chairs scraping above you?
Now I'm nervous. I've been on numerous Royal Caribbean cruises (not Icon yet) but we're booked to go on Seashore in March '25. I guess I'll just chill out, enjoy some sun & time away from work lol. Plus I've never been the first person to comment on a YT video lol.
Thank you for the review.
Hello! Going in August. Where did you get those sunnies ma’am? I need those for my girlfriend.
They are ray bans 😎
Going on icon this weekend! CANT WAIT!!!!
Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying your content. Upfront and direct. If you are getting paid by the cruise lines for content, it certainly doesnt show. I look forward to more
I noticed you are wearing a wow band during your time on the ship. My wife and I are thinking of getting the wow band. Could you tell me the plus's and / or draw backs of the wow band. Love your vidios, my wife and I are big fans.
Sometimes when I have a drink package, there are so many different bars to go to, and so many different drinks to try. I think I miss out on a lot of drinks because I just don’t know about them. All the ones that you highlighted. sounded interesting and worth a try. Thanks for sharing.
Great info. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for your well planned and informative videos. I have watched other commentaries on cruising, but, your relaxed and natural conversations, are pleasant and enjoyable to listen to. Thank you and keep up the good work.
My dreamsss sheesh
Great video. My family which includes myself and my wife, son and daughter, my brother and his wife and their daughter are all leaving on January 18th for a cruise. So good to here you had a great time. We are all looking forward to it.
I hate crowds, and I hate lines and I was so impressed that such a large ship with so many people that we were able to virtually walk right on the ship and the whole week never experienced waiting in any significant lines. Definitely has the best entertainment and water park of any ship I have ever been on. And yet, being so large and so many people, you could always go places that were not crowded, and there were plenty of enjoyable things to do, in fact, if you have gone to some of the ports before, it is great just to stay on the ship and enjoy the many facilities.
I’m booking a cruise for my birthday, and I’m deciding between Radiance of The Seas and MSC Seaside ships. The Royal Caribbean option is an older, smaller ship, while the MSC one is newer and bigger. I know Royal Caribbean has a stronger reputation and is more well-known, but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with either-or both. Would you choose MSC because it’s newer and bigger, or Royal Caribbean despite it being smaller and older? I’d love to hear your thoughts
We've booked to go on a cruise this year. Is the buffet part of the price or do you have to buy the dining package?
It’s part of the price
The observation deck on the NCL Bliss is supposed to be modified during its upcoming refurbishment….just a heads up 🛳
I did read that I’m so sad!
You forgot the NO kids part lol! That could go under “no interruptions” ;) My husband and I love virgin- thanks for doing this video! Happy new year
That is the ultimate plus! Happy new year
if you are looking for great food and drink options, MSC is NOT the best. And you are right, food options seems to be HIGHLY repetitive on MSC ships.
So true!
Definitely on my list to try. We don't normally spend that extra money. But sometimes you gotta treat yourself
Glad we booked our summer cruise before December because if we got limited to 15 drinks a day I would have been demanding the drink package price back
Sounds like you booked at a great time!
Not good because they try to limit non alcoholic drinks as well. Especially if people in same cabin use card to get drinks including coffee, cocoa (same grocery nestle pack) or water for their cabin partner also witha package due to mobility issues or people temporarily misplacing cards.
Very true, non alcoholic drinks should definitely not be limited to
On sea days it should be unlimited definitely.
Looks like I need to book the Scarlet Lady, I dindt relize specialty and soda/wifi were included. Best part is no Kids!?
The Scarlet Lady really is a great ship for adults, I highly recommend it!
This was a great video, I have been cruising for 50 years, and would never have even thought about trying virgin. But after hearing what you had to say, and like, I think I would enjoy going very much. Too many of us, older cruisers, end up getting on just one cruise line because we get certain perks and we get used to the way they do things. One question I have about what you said on the pizza was that they had some unique toppings, what were they?
What ship were you on?
Scarlet Lady
MSC is also doing this to limit drink sharing among guests. Guaranteed that is the biggest reason why they are doing this.
That’s a very good point!
Should have kept it the way it was....
We are booked in YC for the first time in February. Have never sailed MSC and have always read bad reviews! So why are we doing this??!! We are in our late 60’s and have only sailed NCL. The Haven is incredibly expensive and we were looking for something reasonably priced with the amenities we like. We are not huge foodies (husband likes meat and potatoes 😬) but want something not quite so crowded with more personal service. The price we paid for YC is at least $1k less than our cruise in September on NCL in a balcony suite. Thank you for your honest opinions on MSC and YC!
We have not done a NCL cruise yet but have one booked on the Bliss for next year so we are excited to try it! I will say YC never felt crowded and the butlers were excellent! I hope you have a wonderful time 😊
I’ve seen tons of cruise reviews from all different hosts. Even though we are seniors. Your reviews resonate with us. If your next cruise was your last, can you pick your 4 favourites? Since we are from Winnipeg we have to pick wisely. It costs us a lot for flights to the ports. I’ve seen so many reviews I’m confused!
Of our past cruises we have most enjoyed Celebrity Beyond, Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady and Royal Caribbeans Icon of the Seas. We have the Sun Princess coming up and about a month and then Norwegian Bliss a few months after so we will definitely update on how those compare. The most impressive to us though was the Celebrity Beyond we had a lovely experience and we are definitely planning our next Celebrity cruise I would recommend them (especially the Edge class) to anyone.
I think it's a bad change based on what's happening on the competition. On NCL (where I cruise most often), drinks are truly unlimited. What a drink, go order one. Don't want one, no problem. All it takes is 2 drinks a day to make More at Sea have value. On Carnival, they have had a 15 drink limit for years. Look at all the fights. Personally I think the policy has the opposite effect when a 15 drink limit quickly becomes a 15 drink challenge in the mind of some cruisers.
That’s a really good point!
Sounds very reasonable to me, good for individuals, not to overindulge and get sick, good for the bars not being too crowded, and too rushed and quality more than quantity, if that happens, hopefully. Also, good for the rest of the people on the ship and crew not having to deal with ones who have had too much.
It is a much better experience for everyone if people are consuming at a reasonable pace!
MSC has amazing ships, and for the most part excellent staff. If they can figure out food and theatre shows they will definitely be amongst the best. As of now they just don't compare to NCL and Royal for total experience.
Very true!
Thanks Guys! We've done MSC twice, both times it was overall OK mainly because we booked the Aurea class. If the price is right, we may do it again - otherwise we rather pay a little more and go with something safe like Celebrity
Celebrity is a wonderful cruise line!
All good points! I especially agree with the bland food. I know with sometimes over 5k passengers to cook for they can't have too much spices and seasonings but I mean hit it with a bit more of. Salt & Pepper at least. 😅
Yes! Just some salt and pepper would be lovely!
MSC is a great value, but it is also good to know it’s limitations
That’s a great way to put it. It’s all about knowing what to expect.
Always appreciate your videos, you are always able to bring out some points that Give me things to look for on a cruise, and also to avoid.
I’m so glad the video was helpful!
Going on seashore in may. This will be my first on msc. I've heard mixed things about them but it's still a cruise!!
Any cruise is better than no cruise!
hi deb from tasmania australia :) ive just sunscribed to your channel, nice to be onboard :) great video, i really enjoyed it
Thanks so much!
i went on my 1st cruise in August, Canada on NCL. I am in LOVE with cruising! after years of Road trips. Drive HOURS, get out drag suitcase into whatever place we're staying for that night. Eat whatever's open. Check out > drive > see a few sites> eat somewhere> drive more> eat more> see a bit> drive more> check in at dark> eat more> sleep and repeat until you're home. Worry that you're going the wrong way, worry that you missed your turn, that the hotel gave away your reservation, that the price changed, that there's a problem with the room that night, worry about other people driving, and is there a rest stop soon, is there a gas station soon, are there accidents up ahead? with cruising there's none of that and I love that I can day drink and no one says a thing. I love that I can choose a show or trivia or laying around or a dance class or wandering around aimlessly just cuz. I haven't done the ABC circuit yet , so I don't know if I'd be bored or if I'd look to sit on the ship and enjoy the pool while others are on land shopping. I really think you have to manage expectations, but I've been to a lot of places all over the USA that have charged $30 for a burger that was worth (maybe) $3. I've stayed in blue door motels with one eye open and prayed i didn't come home with bugs of one kind or another. I can't tell you how disappointing some attractions have been, because it's really subjective and what I don't like-you might. I CAN tell you that the few nit picky things I didn't like about cruising probably could have been solved if my husband was a bit more "bold" (he held me back) and reading the daily announcement flyer (freestyle?) probably would have helped with keeping up with the ship's goings on. A little bit of planning and lot of understanding and you'll have a fabulous time.
I agree that cruising is definitely a great way to relax and take a break from the stress of planning and driving!
Fair points; and well laid out. My wife and I have only been on a few cruises, but never to the Caribbean (never intend to). I've focused more on places which we'd never ordinarily be likely to visit (Scandinavia, Eastern Med, Japan). Also, we've felt like upgrading to a premium cruise line like HAL or Cunard will tend to reduce, but surely not eliminate, some of the general nuisances which pop up with large groups of vacationers.
It is so nice to hear from someone who enjoys cruising to destinations outside of the Caribbean!
I always get someone next door who has had to much to drink and they start shouting and banging all night
Agree, but with some careful planning(and some luck) most can be avoided. Chose the right cruise line, stateroom, & avoid peak periods. Manage expectations, you pay MSC price - don't expect Celebrity level anything.
Yup it’s all about setting your expectations appropriately
just got off my first MSC because of you guys... will cuise agian for the pure value. However, I perfer spending up for Royal who actually can make more drinks than a mojito and a marg.... Food was also sub royal imo but a high note was the deserts were some of the best I had at sea. Not a single representative old fashioned was had sadly. Luckily I like mojitos but eventually they get to sweet after a couple days.
Absolutely agree that MSC is a great value, the drinks are definitely lacking though 😆 we were so tired of sugary drinks on our last MSC cruise would love for them to up their bar game.
First question on the Mexican restaurant... your $18 all you can eat charge, is that per sitting, or is it timed, or is it for the day? Second... I have Googled many different places and some say the drink package is included and some says it is not included. The same way with UA-cam videos. I will watch one that says it is included that I will watch another that says it is not included. Thank you in advance if you can answer any of these questions!
The $18 is per sitting and well worth the charge as you can get as much as you want. The Easy drink package is included when they are running the free drinks promotion, it seems like right now they have a Drinks and WiFi promotion where you can get both things for a small up-charge you just have to select that option when booking your cruise. Hope that was helpful!
Cruising february 2025 and the full day pass is 78.99 currently? Should I get it? My wife already purchase passes for the adult only side? She not interested in the Waterpark. But I am very interested?
That’s a pretty good price for a full day pass. If you enjoy waterparks I think you would have a fantastic time. We paid $75 when we went back in September and thought it was worth it.
Surprised, not in a good way, about the food quality in YC. We've cruised MSC twice in Aurea class, found service to be good and the food to be "ok" in the dining room and above average in buffet - like YC - Aurea does make a difference. QUESTION, for the same $ , would you do interior YC or take 2 seperate cruises in a balcony room?
I think we would probably decide to go with two separate cruises and upgrade our dining to the specialty restaurants, we’ve had really good experiences with the MSC specialty restaurants and they are very reasonably priced.
Normally, I would not think of spending that extra amount, but I think, just like what you mentioned, as far as if you got a good bargain on it, then certain features there would be worthwhile
As usual, terrific job on the review. So my personal feeling is, well, I'll just say this first I liked that lounge. I think that lounge was nice but I'm way more into lounges I think than a lot of other cruisers. I think it is a way nicer lounge than what Celebrity's Retreat offers just in terms of it looks warm and inviting and not bright and monotone and some are windowless. But in terms of Yacht Club and ship within a ship, I don't like the concept one bit. I don't like other passengers not having access to areas of the ship. Either make the full ship exclusive and treat everyone like royalty or treat everyone like sheep. If you get the big room, sure, get your champagne and better this and that and packages. But portioning off a "first class" section of a ship is going backward to class cruising. I want my fellow passengers to be treated to the same features regardless of the room they book. And some of them may have more "class" than those paying for the separation. It's the separation that turns me off. However, I know some people love it and there are varying opinions on ship within a ship. I will say this. If this concept grows, in time we run the risk of having most of the ship paying more to book pseudo "suites" just to access popular areas or nicer areas of the ship. Regular rooms will put in better sheets and soap and be called "suites." The bean counters would love to do that. So, let's be careful about the ship within a ship trend.
I agree that limiting the access for passengers is getting into some murky territory, it will definitely be off putting to some passengers to not get full access to the ship and to have to pay a hefty fee to access prime locations and amenities.
Were you able to make reservations for these shows in the app/website? We are sailing on Icon on January 11th and do not see a way to book show reservations.
Yes we were able to make all of ours on the website I think 30 days before sailing. I still recommend getting to the show early to get good seats even with reservations!
@ unfortunately for our cruise the shows are not available to reserve online(not sure why). We needed to call customer service to reserve our shows. As with all things RC if in doubt call customer service
That's outright fraud. Many travel venues overbook but not on guaranteed bookage.
