5:48 I get this far and the triangle keeps spinning and I get endless error popups from wine.......
Sir nice tattoos and should buy this machine for programming python C and bash scripting and to learn linux i have x230 X220 in my option too, please let me know
Yoo hows t480 in your opinion??
saving these to my linux playlist thanks i hope it will be similar for me when i try manjaro.
thanks ,, can we do same thing without create .service file. I mean to say can we execute .sh file direct from timer file. please help because in my device .service file always shows inactive every single time when reboot even enabled and started
you need to enable your service file sudo systemctl enable <nameofservice>.service

can you upgrade an ideapad 320
it's a lot less modular but if I had one I would certainly try
Thank you so much! It still works. 😀👍
any solution to add more RAM above 16 GB ?
new motherboard?
I had a very different experience on launch day! EAC worked and did not crash at all.
Can't get it to run at all no matter what I try. It will launch but then nothing will happen.
sad to hear that, hard to determine what the problem is by this information
I put a i7-3740QM on my T430 (no dedicated GPU). On Linux (the only OS I use) good temps all the time.
Hi! I heard the battery doesn't get charged with i7 45W cpus unless one plugs in a 90W charger. Does your 430 work with the regular 60W charger?
@@artur19846 I am sorry, I am not using battery on my laptop, just to the power grid.
Hi, what type of linux are u using?
@@InterstellarLord tysm, yeah, sorry for that am a begginer in Linux :')
thanks for the guide! very good!
last year I bought a T410 with excellent Docking Station battery 40 % wear ok excellent wonderful machine Love it works every day like new!
using nobara 38 on an older Gaming PC (GTX 970 GPU) and i keep getting .net window install coming up preventing BG3 in steam from launching...frustrating!! (edited...got it working!)
have you tried to force it to run with Proton Experimental?
@@penguinpropaganda so i am able to run it now ...having installed the dotnet requirement and also kill DXsetup.exe process ....and yup proton experimental!! now if you can find me a way to play Conan Exiles after the Age of War update i'd be impressed! lol
Thanks Penguin, very good info. I’m with you on the keyboard thing. I hope to do all of the upgrades you outlined.
Thanks for the video. I'm playing this game on Windows but only have Windows at all because game devs are generally reluctant to support Linux. If gaming was more widely supported I'd ditch Windows entirely. I'll give this a try on my own machine. I just hope installing mods isn't a pain. 👍
I have been experimenting with mods a bit and am working on docs and tools for this so stay tuned!
@@penguinpropaganda Thanks for your response. I will indeed keep my eye out for that.🙂
Why? 😭 It's already old and no gpu the parts are gonna be harder to find each year. 🤧
You're not the boss of me
How are you liking it?
This game is a masterpiece
I have 3 SSDs in my T430
we live in the greatest timeline
Hi! I've been doing similar things with my T430, but I was curious why you went for the 3632QM vs the 3740QM? The latter is a bit quicker and pretty darn cheap on ebay :)
I believe there was a huge cost difference at the time I made the video. The goal was to upgrade as effectively yet cheaply as possible.
Hi, can we upgrade the processor to i5/i7 8th Gen?
We are so close, SO CLOSE to being able to ditch Windows entirely! My desktop gaming PC is Windows because I am not delusional, gaming is just easier on Windows but all of my Uni work and literally 90 percent of my time is spent in Ubuntu on my laptop or in some other distro on a VM. Honestly, I can't wait until people will suggest Linux for gaming with it being free and fast. I think Steamplay has opened up the future more than people realise. Wine was abandoned for years and suddenly BOOM Steam, Linux console, Millions of Linux gaming consoles in hands, compatibility layers, updated Linux gaming projects.
steam certainly has helped a lot. the days of having to do wine configs to get something to run are slowly going away. You can use proton to install other games or software as well.
A year later finally deciding to break from Windows I can’t get Elden ring to run which is holding me back. I’m fine with dual booting for R6 Siege and Oculus VR, however, if Elden ring runs flawlessly on my steam deck the. The same should go on my desktop. I’ve had crashes on the steam deck which is common/fine/reasonable. On my desktop, the game will launch then just ha g and never enter into a new window. Checking it’s resources in a system monitor shows that it’s using 0% cpu and the ram idles at around 300megabytes. I’ve tried arch, Debian, and fedora but I keep getting the same error. I have a full AMD system ( RX 6700 XT, Ryzen 9 5900x) with the exception of a Nvidia gpu for qemu passthrough. If I can’t get Elden ring to run most of the time then I’m just gonna continue running heavily modified/stripped down Windows ISOs. Also no version of proton that supports EAC works. Using proton 6 and the custom one from the Titanfall 2 Northstar project have no issues launching the game. Not playing online with EAC disabled takes away some of the games fun and feeling that other players exist in the areas youre exploring.
sounds like this is an issue with EAC which makes sense if you're using GPU passthrough. I'm not 100% sure about EAC and passthrough but I think it might cause issues .
@@penguinpropaganda Ive tried with GPU passthrough enabled and disabled but I have not gotten it to work. I think its a problem with EAC but can't find a solution. Valve might just have extra content downloaded to the steam deck for elden ring to make it run smooth. It could also be glibc but Nobara Project by GlouriousEggRoll says it fixed the EAC issues but I still have it. I'm gonna wait for steamOS 3.0 because I don't have much time to mess around a lot. I just need something that works.
@@Meninem_ have you tried running Proton Experimental? That's what works for me
@@penguinpropaganda Yeah I've used experimental, GE, and 7 but non of them work if they have EAC compatibility. Only older proton versions seem to let the game run
@@Meninem_ Not sure if you're running radeon pro drivers but if you are I had issues with those before
GREAT video, "THANK YOU!". I really appreciate the part nos., as I'm about to upgrade my (2014?) T430. I don't have the cash yet, worse, I don't know enough to know which is the better upgrade. I bought a keyboard but I think its a fake, it does not light up & it types worse than the one I took out. Good thing i saved the old one but I'll try to find one of your nos. I'd like to find a good option to upgrade the display but I can live w/ stock for now. I've heard there are good screens that fit the T430 but I haven't really looked into it. That would make another good video! Oh, BTW, could you make the title longer? I don't think 14 words are quite enough to completely describe the video. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more of your videos. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor! PS I'm old, I don't like windoz, MX runs like a champ. But I'd like to learn more about linux, too.
to be clear: I'll be making titles more concise in the future, also videos are getting an overhaul on style
Very cool personally I enjoy Linux and windows
how do I reset to new world ?
when I run the status command for valheim is says "activating" and doesn't seem to go to "active" any idea?
sounds to me like a possible permissions issue or maybe something has changed? I haven't done this in quite some time.

I just have to say thank you for your tutorial it's the best. I wish I had found it first as I would have saved so much time.
Some people choose to buy old ThinkPad and upgrade many of these part to the max. Some people choose to sold they old ThinkPad and buy the newest one. And some people choose to sold they old ThinkPad and buy used and and better specs ThinkPad (that's me).
It works but how do I join when not on the home network
I believe you can use port forwarding for this
So awesome! I didn't realize the processor could be upgraded on these machines. I always thought it was part of the mother board. Definitely good to know for the future.
Is this with nvidia or just intel ?
This machine has the nvidia / intel chipset. I forced nvidia to run on the latest linux update I did but I haven't been able to get the mini hdmi to reliably work along with the other screen. I can get one or the other though.
Nice. I did mine a few years back, also going for the 3632QM. It's a noticeably smoother machine than it was with 4 core i7 chip in it. Mine had quite a noisy fan on the heatsink, and I found the Nvidia chip frustrating. It drains battery too fast, and if you run on the onboard Intel GPU instead the mini DVI port isn't available to you! So I bought a new old stock motherboard on eBay (£23!) that didn't have the Nvidia chip (meaning the mini DVI worked with Intel GPU) and a Delta fan (the quiet one) attached to it. I had to dismantle the whole machine to do it (not too bad, given the excellent hardware service manual that's available) and now have a very quiet machine that doesn't get too hot and doesn't throttle. I did the 1080p IPS screen mod too, which takes it to a whole new level. It's great to be able to keep this old kit going. Top tip for battery longevity - use tlp to set the charging threshold so that it stops charging at 60% max charge. The battery lasts a lot longer, and if you need to charge it higher for a few hours away from power, letting it go up to 75 or 80% every now and again is no problem.
Personally i prefer to swap out the DVD drive with a Blu-ray drive. The only reason to add a Ultrabay HDD / SSD would be to use it as a Mini-RAID. Also, if you do a BIOS Mod you can remove the WIFI hardware & Battery Whitelisting and also enable the full SATA speed. Something that is sadly locked and throttled by default.
Regarding the BIOS mod: When this was made we were in the middle of the pandemic and the BIOS chip clip was selling for 400 USD which is why I just never picked one up to do it. I plan on doing this at some point and making a video on it but life has been busy.
@@penguinpropaganda Oh you don't need extra hardware for that. Just a Linux Distri on a USB stick and the modded Bios files. It's purely software mod.
@@KRAFTWERK2K6 KOOL! So where can we find the modded BIOS files? Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.
Can you give some info and links for battery whitelist and Sara speed hack plz? Thanks

Bought my T430 from some guy whose business went under back when I was a kid. Has never failed me. Plays League of Legends like a champ when I’m on the go🫡 does what I need and when it can’t I go to my PC or Mac. Been wanting to upgrade☝🏻 didn’t even know you could swap out the disk drive for a caddy! Keep going hard with the videos 👍🏻 P.s shout out the guys business who went under. Hope he’s still doing great.
I fucking love you.
glad to help out

pretty cool, but also it's a pain to hear that voice tbh
thanks so much bro
Superior? Hmm, well I do like to suggest binding the super key to a side mouse button if you have one. This means no mouse travel to enter overview. The downside being you need a mouse with extra buttons and be a mouse user of course. Setting this up can be a bit of a hassle as well for a new user. So it's not perfect for everyone.
OMG Thank you so much, I have been searching for like an hour
My gosh, spent evening reading forums and gave up. Then trued youtube as a last try and it was this easy all the time
Good content, let me point out that hot edge extension is much superior then dash to dock in the sense that it never broke with a gnome update. It ia not as feature rich as dash to dock because it is very simple. Just hit the bottom screen with your mouse and gnome dock appears as if click on the overview. I never have to click on overview with this extension. You will love it
