MABDR - Scrambler 1200xe
This is my 2nd attempt at the Mid-Atlantic Back Country Discovery Route (MABDR). My First attempt ended abruptly due to a burnt out clutch on the Scrambler 1200xe. This time I set off sick and racing a hurricane.
I don't have any friends so I decided to once again take this trip on solo. I was planning on a 6 day trip but due to a late start (sick) and then later the storm (bad luck) I had to step up the pace to get the route done.
Overall this was a great trip and without the hardships it would likely have made a very boring video. Thanks for watching!

I bought a DR650! There is something about the versatility of a dual sport I just could not pass up. This one has had several tweaks to it including several aftermarket parts. I want to get out there to ride more and see what needs changing, what is good, and what needs to go.

I first saw this done on overland bound (link below) and people there have had pretty good luck so I decide to give it a shot and put it to the test... well 2 tests actually. GX470: Switch Panel quick install; Aux Beam alternative

Today we install the "8 Switch Panel System Universal" which looks identical to my AUX BEAM 8 gang switch panel in the F-150. Both seem to be in from the same factory with just separate boxes as far as I can tell and function seems equal as well. Regardless of what you buy the install of these units is very easy and the end result is a simple and clean switching solution. After all, any of thes...

How to turn off the TPMS warning light on a GX470. A quick video on disabling the TPMS warning light on Kate's 2005 GX470. This method will work for all years with some slight changes. Earlier models will have the green housing (box) for the TPMS module itself. Later years will be blue or red. positaps do a clean job. Thanks.
Kevin sounds like a supportive wife
Wow! Kevin, Nice documentary of your trip. Some rough going, a little hardship and some McGyvering to persevere and overcome obstacles. You were well prepared with the tools and equipment you needed. Even got help from and helped a forest service tree crew. Great stories!
This is one of the most simple example I've ever seen great video coz the tool cost about seven hundred dollars in my country sometimes even more
Well, would you please explain me how does it worked. You've Grounded (Wht/Blk) Indicator wire (Blu) and that's it? Shorted it,no? And there is another from another youtuber, same vehicle but of 2008 and he've got Indicator wire (BlU) connected to the RF5V wire (Grn/Red), you've mentioned that wire in your video as well. Just trying to understand here is shorted to ground and there shorted to voltage. Right? so, Indicator wire (Blu) just need to be shorted?
I wonder what would happen if you put it in a swimming pool. Because when you turn upside down the water pushes the lid open but maybe in a swimming pool the pressure would push the lid closed. I have 12 of these cases. Five large ones and seven medium size and I want to waterproof them. However here in Canada they want $17 per package which is a fortune and a ripoff.
Man, truly one of the most lovely funny easy vid I've seen. Love u and your lovely family, cheers from Saudi Arabia
عليه سيت اب والله ، شغل عدل
I use the same thread coupler and rotate the couple instead of the bolt.
Never seen a riv nut like that.
Just get the proper tool
“Wider than it is long, just like me” 😂😂😂
Whats your venmo, ile send you the 30$ to buy the tool so i dont have to suffer watching this shit.
This is a great tutorial. Anything else you recommend?
Nice thank you...
I saw your video on the 5 things you hate about the GX470. I have been contemplating on getting one for my young family (wife and 2 young kids under 2). But I’m also a full time student now. So I wondered if it’s best. I’ve heard it a really strong car and hence good for families but the downside you revealed was important to consider too. How about gas on mileage. What would you advise? Should I proceed?
In the middle of doing this. Removing tyres with tyre irons is a biatch. Think I've lost half a stone in weight.
WTF!? Something actually useful on UA-cam!
If anyone runs across this video wondering...yes he had problems and needed to lift 😅 The max tire size you can fit stock without issues is 265/60/17 which equates to a 31.6 inch wheel ("almost" 32s)
You just saved me hundreds or thousands of $$$ Was told I needed a panel beater to fix the seals etc. Thank you!
you’re the man for posting this. i was scared to far into things but you showed it was no problem
I thought you were cool until I saw the E-Bike 😂. Brah
Once your clutch starts slipping, yer screwed. IF you have some spare washers, IF you have some 60 grit sandpaper, you MIGHT be able to get the pack friction up enough to go somewhere, but better to just get a new pack. If you are a wet clutch, I have had good luck laying the motorcycle on its side to open the clutch pack to change it. I cringe every time I see someone slipping their clutch hard, smell the bands burning, or see someone without a clue adjusting their clutch lever free play. The extra washers trick works better if you have a couple new friction plates with you, because sanding friction plates just makes them thinner (but does remove the glaze) but ideally, don't torture your clutch pack. (Not saying you did, you were not on the trail long enough to burn them, must have had a slipping issue prior) And, FYI, it has become more and more "popular" to "F" with adventure bikes (dick with clutch cables, open brake bleeder spigots just a bit, loosen triple clamps or remove pinch bolts, crank the hell out of one fork preload and loosen the other, slightly loosen valve cores, loosen spokes). Looking forward to your next shot at it.
Yeah you are right on all accounts. Lessons cost money and I definitely learned a lesson. I got the clutch pack replaced and when I got the bike back there was still zero free play in the lever. I suspect I would have had the same result if I just left it from the dealer. I made some adjustments and lets just say my next video will have a very different result :-)
My Toyota highlander is doing exactly just that. Did you replace the wet carpet?
symmetricality = symmetry
Ok, so I replaced one hub, and a new iwe on driver side because it was trying to engage for months. Also replaced the entire vac lines up to the nearest selonoid connection. Still trying to engage and have lesser vac pressure at that wheel so I unplugged vac line at selonoid and no issue obviously. What was your final vac fix?. I can't find mine but wonder if I'm going to have issues down the rd with iwes engaged all the time
Have you checked the vacuum container? Could have a leak.
@dude8223 you mean behind the battery? The weird thing is at the section where the new vac lines attach I have 22 pressure so somehow it's losing pressure to the driver side iwe
Awesome and fancy idea 💡
Hey there, your video is great! I would love to know, is this conversation still working? If so how many miles has been done? Thanks, John
Nice to see the family interaction and lots of patience. Many thanks
Thank you so much bro .. now I know there is a drain hose area … 😢 and need to know that it’s a rubber hose or what ??
Looking forward to seeing round 2! That's a great looking Scrambler btw, what exhaust headers/ heat shields have you got for the tec exhaust?
Thanks Dan! Headers are stock but they have exhaust wrap on them. I cut off all the OEM mounting tabs and replaced the shields with 2 different ones I got from amazon. I updated the description with an affiliate links if you want to check out any of the parts. Planning to take on the route again sometime in August. :)
How great! You act like me changing a tire. Thanks for the positive reinforcement. It actually CAN get done.
Way too much work to get to the spare as I own a Ranger with 225 60 16s I went to harbor freight bought 2 spare tire carriers mounted both my spares at the rear by the tailgate Sooo much easier and have had Multi comments and for 34.99 each its hard too beat Next is spare tire covers and a tool box
Where is the link to the documents?
I couldn't help but rewind a few times to admire the view when you were "Testing" your equipment in the backyard lmao. What a wonderful view indeed. Do you have OnlyFans by chance? xD
Thank you! BTW, I just scrapped the insulation off the white/black and the blue....Twisted together to ground out, and tapped both together. Presto. (And to think I didn't think to check YT for a fix...Been driving around with a piece of tape over the light for 3 years! LOL!)
You are a fool ...
Pinion bearing wear due to engaging the drive shaft constantly on an axle not designed for it....humm. let me think where the problem is... Either go back with the IWE ehish is cheaper and easier to replace. Replace the axle. Or keep going through pinion bearings. You said it is a daily driver so give up the notion its going to be an off road beast on command. Its either/or, not both.
U need to grease the iwe
What are the dimensions of the steel tube?
I’m also wondering
LOL ... good job
This worked on ‘04 GX. I got my red wire taps from harbor freight. Make sure you squeeze it hard with a plier. Boom
Me doing this so I can put a 212 sub 😂
Interesting!! Had just seen the one where you put em on
Cool! I think something broke in my system Rushing other night n muddy driveway. Put in 4x4 and gave it some gas made a thunk and then 4wheel was not working as normally does. Damn ! It has always worked well. And I upgraded the solenoid and check valves awhile back. Issuer error I guess rushing and slamming g it in 4wheel and giving gas while in some mud ! Man what a weak system. Iv alway put it in 4wheel before needing it whike drivibg straight and not throttled to let it engage. Easily. One time and BOOM. Kind of works now but getting some skipping skipping or something from one hub I think
Nice hack❤
The best video, the best explanation, thank you very much! Tire shop wanted $130 each sensor 😂😂😂 did this in under 5 min
Excellent Video!! Saved me a lot of money!!!
Funziona ancora ?
Knowing that the white part behind the front wheels is just plastic glued on is a god send. Will be removing mine this week. I have -51 offset on my 20x12s and not getting much of a turn 🤣
what is it can i just take it off
