The wooden framethe greenhouse itself is attached to came from Home Depot, and that was a bit more pricey. They were about $30 a board, and we had to buy 6 of them, so about $180. We had the concrete blocks from a passed project, so there was no cost to them. I'm gonna say close to $700. There will be extra costs for the trellises and the drip irrigation. I didn't add those costs in.

    Deleted my comment because you actually addressed my question at the end. Hopefully the tposts and fencing works for you. I'd go ahead and put that up before planting, honestly. Also having the drip will help you a great deal if you install it beforehand, because then you will know where you need to plant things if you're using a drip line. You can place the plant or seeds near the emitters. You guys really put in a lot of work to really make this substantial. Great job!

My plants are desperate to be planted. Otherwise, I would wait for the drip, but some of them are getting far too large. LOL.

    I have moved away from wooden raised beds to metal raised beds. Do a cost comparison before you invest in the wood - I saved quite a bit of money because not rebuilding every few years

      We have plans to replace our roof this fall with a metal roof, so we will also buy a little extra to build the metal raised beds. But for now, just to get me through the summer, we have purchased a little bit of lumber just to fix them up. And then hopefully, in the fall we can replace them with metal.

    That type of cover falls apart after a couple of years. The plastic starts falling out of the squares. Can make it last longer by adding UV resistant clear coating to the outside.

      My last greenhouse lasted 3 years, but then a major snowfall here crushed it in the end. 150 cm of snow was too much for it. But surprisingly, the cover was still great. I think it might depend on where you live. Its not very hot here in Cape Breton so that might be why.

    Mine was just delivered and I will be constructing it tomorrow. Since I have zero use for a greenhouse until next fall (summer temps can get 100+ around here) once I see how it looks with the cover on it, I will be pulling the cover right back off until around Oct. and using the frame (after adding some reinforcements) to trellis some gourds. The one you have now looks much more sturdy and the addition of the ridgeline (is that the right word? lol) support along the center of the top should help keep water from pooling on the top and causing the whole structure to fail. Before I clicked "buy" I read the reviews and the majority of the ones that failed in the first rain did so because of that design flaw allowing water to pool if the cover is a little loose.

    • @urbangardenerCB
      @urbangardenerCB 3 місяці тому

      I think it would do well with gourds. I grew tomatoes in mine last year after I was done using it for my seedlings, and it worked wonderful. This model is more sturdy for sure, im hopeful to get about 3 years out of it. Also, where we attached the plastic on with wood, it made the cover pretty tight, and the rain runs right off.

    • @urbangardenerCB
      @urbangardenerCB 3 місяці тому

      Hey, here is the link to the new one. It was actually about $60 cheaper then the old one. I had thought about it getting too warm in the summer but I think it should be ok because of where I live. Here in Cape Breton it really doesn't get that hot. But if it does, the straping on the outside is held on by screws, so I could technically take it off if need be. 😊 www.aosom.ca/item/outsunny-20-x-10-walk-in-greenhouse-with-sprinkler-system-tunnel-green-house-with-wide-roll-up-door-12-mesh-windows~1LUR7ESO43001.html

      If you didnt have to send the broken tent back, you may be able to use some pvc pipes to replace the broken metal tubes. Or just build a smaller up right greenhouse out of PVC tubes and the plastic from this house. Maybe something with a smaller foot print to use along with your new one if you're limited on space.

      Unfortunately, the greenhouse was so broken that it was not reusable. I had hoped to, but as we were taking it apart, We realized just how flimsy it was. We bent the pipes with our hands, folded them up, and put them in the trailer to go to the dump. I did reuse the cover, but the rest of the metal was complete garbage. It was such a shame.

  • @RevRedmondFarrier
    @RevRedmondFarrier 3 місяці тому

    I just ordered a very similar greenhouse and plan on doing modifications to it in order to reinforce it and make it worth the money. I have a lot of old t-posts and will be using them driven into the ground every other rib as the anchors and will have a wooden center rib the length of the ceiling held up by a couple of planks acting as pillars in the center of the structure. A lot of the reviews said how flimsy it is, but it was so cheap ($180 for a 10 / 26) I couldn't resist attempting to make it work. I built one with hard panels half the size for about 3 times the money only to have it destroyed by some 30+ mph sustained winds just before I put the finishing touches on it.

    • @Chevymonster203
      @Chevymonster203 3 місяці тому

      For around that price you can buy a Shelter logic greenhouse but it will be smaller. The quality is far better though, had it withstand 45 mph gusts of wind without any issues. They use thicker steel tubes and higher quality covers. Had one that lasted about 4 years before the cover needed to be replaced, had a cheaper one that started deteriorating within a year.

    • @SetitesTechAdventures
      @SetitesTechAdventures 3 місяці тому

      There are more common upgrades people do to these that bolster the frame with wood. This greenhouse only has two roof beams though so this is considered the old design of these cheap high tunnels. You want the upgraded ones with the three roof beams, and you want to use some 2x4s to beef up the ends. That would probably have stopped the shelves from getting knocked over as it would stop the whole frame from swaying. You can see the wood base bent in too, so this wood base was insufficient. I haven't finished putting up my greenhouse yet but I'm using 4x4s for the base and using longer pieces of wood on top of that to join them so that the wood frame itself wont flex so the greenhouse has a sturdy base. Unfortunately you really have to build these in one go if you want them to survive the first strong wind.

      Making sweet potatoes slips using the soil method has been amazing. I have tried doing the cup and water method in the past and had zero luck. I can't believe how quickly they have been growing in my greenhouse. I think the high heat and humidity has just made them grow exponentially. You should definitely give it a try, so well worth it.

    Nice garden !!! How long have you been working on it??? I have just started my first set of beds started producing earlier this year. I noticed during my first growing season, that my big mistake was over crowding. So, I started and just finished making some new beds and I included two larg archway trellises like the ones you have, but I have not yet planted anything in those new beds as I live in Florida and the sun is very hot right now, so I am waiting for some 50% shade cloth, so I can control how much sun they are getting and from which direction. I have only made two videos on my garden beds. I think you will really like my new beds. ua-cam.com/video/utAn0qCMNTE/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared although the original beds did do pretty well, for my first time growing. ua-cam.com/video/gTpGzC_IIL0/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
