Jacob, Will, and I did some snorkeling at Diveland Park in Glencoe, Alabama. Had a blast. Fantastic quarry, and a really friendly staff. Scuba diving is great here too!

A video and picture story of a squirrel we rescued from the parking deck at my office. We nursed her back to health and eventually released her on our wooded property. She lives near the house and visits us regularly.

Took our annual November dive trip with Scuba Tech in Destin Florida. This video shows what we saw on the Amberjack Reef. Lots of particulate in the water, but we saw a lot of interesting fish.
Congrats to Will, my new dive buddy.

This was my first dive on the Oriskany. When we went in the water the Gulf was almost pond calm. When we came out it was into a tempest and had to cancel the second dive. Got down to 120', but had difficulties with my new regulator so I spent most of the dive shallow.

Beautiful story, i love it. I feed 6 squirrels from my deck. Love to watch them grow. 4 have been eating on my deck for 3 years! Always keep your memories.
I bet you're full of scratches like we are 😆We also have a pet grey squirrel (UK)
@@themantisgarden Just a few!
@@garywillford My back is ripped apart as she keep going under my T-shirt lol only 2 months old at the moment but it is illegal to release grey squirrels here so she's with us for life.

Great dive!!! I'll be there next time

Horrible musique..! C'est une véritable torture.
I currently have a sweet little rescue called Sweet pea. She's about 5 weeks, but soo tiny. I love her so much that I'm going to release her...but I'm heartbroken because I can't do it here at home. My sweetheart of a German Sheppard who's never been aggressive a day in his life will eat her. We've tried everything...but he wants her in his tummy. I'm just so bummed that once she's released I'll never see her again 😢
It is the right thing to do. We were fortunate in that we have property with 8 1/2 acres with lots of trees. Right after we released Niblick, a couple of stray cats walked up to the house and my wife started taking care of them. Niblick came to the porch a few times, saw the cat, squawked, and would not come down. Eventually she stopped coming. Makes me feel good to know that she is out there living her best squirrel life. Once your rescue is ready, she will be far better off in the wild than with you. That’s what she was meant to do. It gives me some solace to think that, I hope it helps you.
@@garywillford I know you're right. And we've got about 80 acres so we'll release her down by the creek just to be safe. And we've rescued cats too! Lol. You're such good people
@@JacindaH Hey, that’s fantastic! You can fill those 80 acres with squirrel rescues! Thanks for saving one more.

I just had a baby squirrel adopt us here in thomasburg ont. Nursed him with an eye dropper and he is an absolute joy to have around. He behaves like a little monkey. Loves to have his play time and socializes with everyone who comes to the house. He sleeps a great deal of the time, and when we released him three times, he would not have any of it. Spent 2 days out in the tree, but wanted in at nite or. Last day he spent outside we had a horrible thunderstorm with lightening and thunder and wind and when it was over, wee Billie ran over over to the house and wanted in, and has refused to go out again, so he is quite happy to be indoors. He behaves the exact way this little guy in the video acts. Just love having him around. So glad to see so many kind hearted people out there that will take to time to help even a small animal in distress and realize the love they give you back.
That's a wonderful story! Niblick has totally embraced being what she was meant to be. She comes to the house from time to time, but she was the opposite of your little one. After the first time she really stayed out for a while, she kept wanting to go back out. Even when it got cold she wanted to stay in her first tree she picked. We put nuts out every night and morning to make sure she got enough to eat and even then as time went on she came by less and less. It was sad but fulfilling at the same time.
What a darling little girl! And what a fun new family member!! Thank. You so much for a wonderful rescue and giving Niblick her own trees!!❤❤❤
Sweet, I love squirrels so glad you saved her. Did you build her a wooden House nailing it to a tree so she could have a cozy, bad weather proof home? I seen some people who rescued squirrels had done that when they let them go in their property. Nice video and I always think How lucky someone is to rescue a squirrel or Chipmunk or possum or even a Raccoon, How I would love to do that.
We tried making her a house, but she insisted on crossing the creek to nest with the other squirrels.
She had found tuber!
Squirrel family is lucky.

Wow … she’s so beautiful thank you so much for taking care of her you will never loose her she will always be around you guys she won’t forget all the love your gvng her god bless 🙏
❤😮😅😊😂❤ professional video without comments was great. For those of us that understand nature and for those of us that are rescue people understand that the call of nature, freedom in the outdoors , along with the risks, is still the best method for wild animal rehab. My bird is 33 years old this year and reading body language is important to a happy relationship. Thank you for sharing your video with the rest of us.
Can't thank you enough for your humanity. Such a lovely story and no doubt made you the richer for it. God bless you. And, thanks! Jan

8:12 I’m just curious, can someone tell me what kind of shelled nuts that are? Never saw nuts with shell looking like that, but maybe we only get them already cracked here in Norway? 🤗
They are bitter hickory nuts. Niblick liked sunflower seeds the most.
Aaaaw, thanks so much for rescuing this little munchkin! How precious she is! The world is richer for having her, thanks for giving her the chance! PS! 6:03 Is her name for what she does on your head? Nibbling and licking? ☺️🤗💓
Thank you for sharing your beautiful story with this ❤️ squirrel!
A very sweet story!
Also, while finding this skinny young squirrel kit in a parking garage seems like an exception to the rule, in most cases young animals we perceive as orphaned or abandoned are not - not at all! Their parents are usually nearby gathering food to bring back to their offspring, and people do more harm than good by assuming young animals observed all by themselves are orphaned or abandoned, and removing them from their native habitat. The best approach to take when you see a young wild animal, or a group of them who appear to be a litter or a brood, who you think is/are orphaned or abandoned is to keep your pets and any free roaming dogs and cats away from them, and watch the young animals from a distance, preferably from inside your house. More often than not, the adults will return although it may take a little while and you'll really need to back off before they'll come up in your yard because they don't want to lead what they perceive as a potential predator to their offspring. But the adults will usually return if you give them a little time. It shouldn't take very long time because young animals need to be fed quite frequently so adults are going to bring food back to their offspring's as quickly as they can. And despite what I said about wildlife rehabilitators in my previous post, NEVER capture a young animal whether it be a squirrel or a rabbit or a bird or any other sort of animal and take them to a wildlife rehabilitator unless you are virtually certain the adults aren't going to return. This may take a while to determine, but not always. They often return more quickly than you'd expect. The reason I'm mentioning this is that wildlife rehabilitators are overloaded each spring caring for young animals who would have been just fine if they'd been left alone. Rehab facilities are nonprofits and many rehabilitators are unpaid, and having to take care of all those young animals can suck up as much as 80% of their annual budget, which they have to raise through contributions. None that I know of gets any money from their state or local government; it's all about fundraising. Thanks for considering this information.
I am aware. In fact a colleague saw her in the garage that morning, left her there, and told me about it. He thought mom might come and get her. Almost 6 hours later she had managed to go to a different level in the garage, and mom had not gotten her. She was in the middle of the travel lane and it was a miracle she had not gotten run over in the intervening hours. It was pretty clear she was on her own.
While I appreciate the love and care you gave this squirrel kit, it would have been better to take her to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. They are trained to care for injured and immature wildlife, and they know what's good for different species in terms of food. Just because an animal will eat something, even gobble it down, doesn't mean it's good for them. It may be the equivalent of junk food, or not provide the specific nutrients needed by a given species. This is really no different than dog food not being good for cats because it lacks essential nutrients like taurine which cats need to be healthy, but dogs don't. And while it's great that you released this young squirrel back into the wild, she has lost her fear of humans and that's always dangerous for wildlife. She's now more likely to be taken by a hunter or hit by a car or get into rat poison in someone's yard. License rehabilitators know how to minimize that sort of dangerous acclimation while raising young animals and treating those who may be ill or injured. I'm a professional wildlife biologist and we have a saying in my field that a fed animal is a dead animal. Also, depending on what state you live in, keeping that squirrel in your home and raising her yourself may have been illegal. Applicable laws vary from state to state. I don't mean to be critical, only to inform you about what's best to do in this sort of circumstance, based on my knowledge and experience as a wildlife professional who has volunteered with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in the past and has a close friend who does that now. Thanks for considering this information.
I did a lot of research, including websites of rehabilitators, to determine what to feed her. The puppy formula and pedialyte mentioned in the video were universally recommended. From there it was a steady recommended diet of nuts with the occasional snack/treat of grapes, strawberries, and one time corn on the cob. We intentionally gave her nuts from our property which has 8.5 acres, a stream, and is far from a road. It has lots of grey squirrels as well, so she had a ready made home when it was time for her to go. She has acclimated well to her new home and neighbors. False humility aside, I don’t think the pros could have done better.
Nice diving pic 9:49... wish i knew how to dive and swam😂 Niblick growing nicely and shiny fur and playful there and longest tail i have ever seen on squirrel , thank you for sharing👍💝
You have a heart of kindness and care as big as the sun.
Lovely little squirrel soul that remembers her kind human friend. I love these stories told in very few words, not like in certain rescue videos where a lot of words are scrambled into some minutes like reciting a text, which hinders a bit the appreciation of the rescue.
Thanks that you give him a free life, but not said he come to visit you,a free animal come to visit and say thank you!! A wonderfull story i wish a have a house like you midle in the nature thats great for you feel the power from a forest! Sorry for my bad english best wish Reiner from Germany i
Careful of the edible bowls! Squirrels and rats don't eat hay like rabbits and guinea pigs. Those edible bowls have honey mixed in which will trick non hay eating animals to eat them. The hay can cause impaction of the digestive tract and kill them. Especially baby rats and squirrels.
LOVE IT, your hero's.
I rescued an abandoned squirrel baby as well and videos like these make me miss him so much! Squirrels are incredible beings. It makes me so angry remembering that people broke into my home to kill him. No joke!
Great video but the music was way too repetative
It is one if the iMovie tunes. I was trying to avoid another copyright claim and went simple.
I used rescue baby squirrels and release them. I only ever had 1 that refused to leave. I tried many times but, she was just to friendly to be a wild squirrel ❤
She loves all her hoomans!
Proof Angels come in all shapes/sizes and forms! You are definitely a human Angel rewarded with 5his beautiful fur Angel!!!
I had a baby raccoon my neighbor showed me. I told him to take it back. I was pretty sure that mama would leave it abandoned and take the babies and leave so I went back the next day and Shernoff mama took the other babies and left him all by himself so my wife took him and we fed him with baby formula. He was so tiny smaller than your little squirrel and he grew to be about 35 pounds, I had them for about 3 1/2 years whenever I asked him if he wanted to go for a ride he would already be in the car he love to go for rides. He loves to play with my cat, my miniature schnauzer and my pitbull, and every morning when I would wake up, all four animals would be sleeping on my bed with my wife and I, I moved to Georgia from Florida and I told Rocky if he wanted to stay he could stay I did not see him the first trip I seen him again when I came back I had to make five trips from Florida to Georgia to move all of my stuff and on my last trip, I couldn’t find him and I waited an extra day and I couldn’t find him but my next-door neighbor told me that he would show up and come in and sit on the living room floor while they drink coffee in the morning and then he would go back outside and go climb in the tree in my old yard. I miss him so much.
Perfect job done!!!

Your story is beautiful, I am so happy you kept a video log and are sharing it with the world! My kids got excited seeing you save little Niblick and then gave her a choice to live outdoors and they are certain she will never forget her human family. You know your story or Squirrel tale would make an awesome children’s book!! Blessings!!
About 60 years ago my grandfather rescued a baby squirrel from a tree he cut down (logger) and he kept her in his lunch box and fed her every few hours. She lived in his woodshed for a year or so before she met a male squirrel and left. Her name was peanut!
Awww you are a hero❤
thank you for sharing this vid! And thank you for saving her! I'm glad she survived and thrived! She's a beautiful squirrel!
