Pro Tip #2 - Your vacuum line running to the distributer is connected improperly to your carb. The distributer should only see a vacuum signal from whats called PORTED vacuum (taken ABOVE the throttle blades). You have it connected to MANIFOLD vaccum (below the blades). This is causing the distributer to advance and retard the timing sloppy and VERY ineffective. The carb has a port on the passenger side ( you currently have a vacuum port cap on it), move that sucker to the PORTED vacuum on that 4150 and you WILL see a MUCH more responsive little engine. IF the car was timed WITH THIS LINE improperly connected, go ahead and put a light back on it and set at 1500, NOT idle, with your newly connected vacuum line.
@JosephPPreston this is a very common conversation it seems the info points towards ported is good on stock vehicles as it was more of an emissions device originally and manifold favors high performance engines. What I found in this case after hours and hours of tryin both is that it runs significantly better on the manifold vaccum then ported. However I'll try the different rpm like you stated out of curiosity and see if i get a different result
Did u do any maintenance to the transmission ?
Not yet, no belt change, fluid change or flush... nothing.
Roller tip rockers are the best bang for the buck.
@hd114ul7 always a must do in my opinion especially if you up the ratio which in this case went from the stock sbc 1.5 to a 1.6. Plus there's the cool factor as wexhaustcar definitely sounds a bit nastier with them installed
Check to make sure your floats are set correct. Before you drop that distrubitor in, pull the 4 pin module out of it and hook up a MSD. Also make sure the needle and seats are clean if you have have been running fuel with Ethanol. When you set your timing, make sure to check your total timing with some degree tape on the ballancer. If you want to really have some fun, start messing with the weights and springs in the distributor. Also run an extra ground strap from the block to the body and frame.
@hd114ul7 I added a larger ground strap as I've learnt the hard way on that one before. Adding the msd module would be obvious help though forsure
cars dont just "blow up" for no reason, its usually due to user error aka the owner of the car is a turd
@cantwealljustgetalong2 I know it's the easiest conclusion to jump to but not this time. Nothing but full synthetic oils run and changed often in every mechanical part of this vehicle which I've had since new. All highway driving cruising between 50 to 70 mph is easily 80 to 90% of the driving this thing got. Believe me when I say I was very surprised when this happened. Bone stock and always 91-93 run in it. I believe its just another classic example of engineered to fail.
Little tip for you, those looked like double platinum or iridium. Change over to a copper core plug so you can get some real spark out of the plugs. Softer metals (copper) emit MUCH hotter and far MORE spark than other offerings. Will have to change them a little more frequent, but it WILL provide a much better combustion event.
@JosephPPreston these are platinum plugs. I do want to try running the Autolites just haven't gotten a set yet
@@BCars_Garage You can run whichever brand you'd like ( I personally run NGK for the reliability I PERSONALLY have had) just make sure you get the copper flavored ones. Cheapest in the bucket, it'll make you scratch your head, but it's due to the much shorter life span BECAUSE of the amount of material its able to convert into the SPARK energy to provide a better combustion event. I only run copper on high performance applications, elsewise you're pissing away reliability in the LONG drives for better HP in the short drives lol.
The problem is it's a 350 Chevy
@m.i.a-s.7750 it's been great so far🤷♂️
Check the Holley
I try to keep a close eye on it. I really do need to invest in an AFR gauge though
Check your float level
@rickt2100 spot on maybe even a touch below what it should be. Always a good idea to check it from time to time though
You're wrong . Your power valve is bad in the holley
@born2wrench that was the first thing I replaced, you're right though very common for those to go bad
It doesn't mean its good.
@danmac6185 this is true
Whoa 😂
I see you’re running a small block Chevy , it says 350 . I see that but what is the actual displacement? Jc Small block Chevy is my favorite engine to run/ build ….. very inexpensive and parts are everywhere Can make good numbers for a street car … u kno punch it how ever many u want within reason and lots of options for stroke . Also my favorite, w u talk to anyone this dude had this n that n blah blah blah We used to joke that “BUDDYMINE” had and did everything better than u can Then if I’m talking to a guy that knows”BUDDYMINE” I’ll go “ oh that’s kool, WHERES YOURS AT?”
@@fairbrotherdamon5932 .030 over so 355 it ain't out there winning any awards just a good simple combo that sounds good and is a blast to drive
Get a brake list distributor and put a real ignition system on there
@JustinToledojr just a small hydraulic cam in there with flat tops nothing fancy. Runs great for what it is. Might put a 6AL in it just because though
Did we just become best friends? Theres so much more room for extra activities
😂classic
Wet plugs and running rich could also be the carb needs the jet screws adjusted to lean out the carb.. I would also check for proper timing 👍🇺🇸
A great place to start is with a timing light I 100% agree there
keep putting videos this is great ! because a lot people hate on Nissan!
I can't imagine why they've always made excellent vehicles in my opinion.
Check the voltage at the coil. It should be 12 volts +. If you have 9 volts or less, the wire you have hooked up to the coil is for a points ignition system.
@@Thundarr995 which is also a great tip as many cars that are converted from points to HEI skip this step. Most people just slam the distributor in there and think they're done
What color wire is going to the HEI? If it's yellow, it's probably a low tension wire 7-9 volts for points ignition. If that's the case, run another 10ga wire from the fuse box with a 25-30 amp fuse. You need 12v for HEI.
@Thundarr995 it's a red wire however it's a new one. I believe its 14 gauge although I'm definitely going to check because now I'm curious. That's a great tip I have a 65 pontiac that was also converted to hei from points years ago I'll check that one as well
How many amps does it draw.?
It's a Chevy! That's why!
@user-rx2kv5jw9m fixed it in less than 60 seconds I can't complain
They don't turn well, horrible milage, no creature comforts, harder to unlock and lock, easier to steal, not as reliable, full of rot, unsafe, ... But they are a lot of fun, big steering wheels, look better, cooler horns, burnouts
@timreimer713 you had me at burnouts. The rest is true but can be added. This thing knocks down 15 to 16 mpg consistently which is great for an old car
@BCars_Garage what kind of car is that? Year make model?
@timreimer713 1969 Beaumont the Canadian Chevelle if you're not familiar with the Acadian/Beaumont line
@BCars_Garage dang thats awesome, I'm familiar, I'm canadian. I also have an old car, but not as cool. An 81 riviera. It's a piece of crap tho. A real headache
@timreimer713 any year Riv is worth fixing those were great cars in their day and there's not many of those around anymore. I've always thought the Riviera was right up there with any Cadillac in comfort and options
Big body moves!
@colbygraves9298 pretty impressive for a tank I think
My first car was a 67 Mustang when I was 18. Sold it when I was 22. I'm 59 now, and I still miss that car...😢
@colinkennedy4646 what a beautiful first car that would've been.
Sorry for your octane choice, 2022 and up is 91 octane recommended not required
@samosei8412 it's cheap insurance in my mind. All they did was update the computer and make the knock sensor more sensitive to pull more timing when a lower grade fuel is used. 91+ octane is cheap insurance on any boosted vehicle.
Whatever you gotta tell yourself to keep making that lesser car payment
I can't imagine why someone wouldn't opt for the 5.0 for an extra 100 or 150 a month twice the car for not much money.
My '17 Ford Focus Titanium 2.0l N.A. was almost this fast
I know the RS gets going in a hurry didn't know the regular one moves well too
Maybe do some detailing?
it's getting stripped down and lots of new metal is going to get hung in the process I'll get it all cleaned up once that parts done
@BCars_Garage Nice.
I got a 66 rustang and she fires up. Needs lots of love though. Switched over to a 302. V8
302 is a great engine in these cars
K.P.H.
I did videos for both depending on where a person is from
Fit and finish was poor and it rode like a wild mustang. I had two.
@dennisd4452 they did what they could with what they had. Engineering has come a long ways that's forsure.
Is that a mangled rat by the hood spring?? 🤔
Thankfully no
I want to keep those as far away as possible from my cars
Yeah cuz back in the sixties you could go for dozens of Miles without having to change your spark plugs or adjusting your carburetor or points 🧐
@jkoonce4244 a 10$ part and 15 minutes on the side of the road ain't so bad though
Haha laughes in plastic thermostat, water pump, intake, valve cover, oil pan, etc. Even harder laugh in leadless con rod bearings, i pads for dashes and propritary infotainment systems. Still laughing in the manuals schedualed life of vehicles being an average of 100,000 miles. That cars 60 years old and i bet it starts you corprate dog.
@stevend4544 it'll spark right up. I don't think most people are up to speed with the terrible materials that are going into new vehicles or their lackluster reliability. My Rdx had an engine out head gasket at 74k miles and my expedition had phasers done at 50 and now 10k later I think the head gasket might be bad. Low on coolant with no visible leaks and oil level crept up on the dipstick. Parked till the dealer can get a look at it for yet another warranty claim
6 seconds.
@holma2572 I've seen everything from 4.5 to 4.9 the outgoing 2.3 was slower
You probably ran 87 on it. Turbo charged cars that are meant to run on Premium do not like regular gas. Electronics can adjust detonation only in a limited capacity, not on a constant basis. Could have been a lemon as well. I know dozens of third gen RDX owners with close or over 200K miles on them with no issues like this one.
@AcuraAddicted I wish I were one of those people nothing but 91 or 93 run in this thing since day 1. Everything in my household runs premium except my old truck. I had really hoped for hundreds of thousands of miles but no luck this time.
Have u taken it on long road trips from 1 state to another?
@JohnGordon-ll3pi longest trip it's done was only about 800 miles round-trip when it was new. Very comfortable for long drives though. I'd take it from New York to L.A tommorow without hesitation
The sound 💀. Its like my grandma's farts. V8's were so much better
I can't imagine what it would've been like in the v8, 10 or 12 days what a sound that would've been
@@BCars_Garage Do you know about the F1 blown diffuser? That sound was amazing😍
@MIKA_SUBSCRIBE ill check it out.
They dont sound bad. In person they sound pretty good. Its definitely a very unique sound. I definitely do prefer the older cars sound, i have heard the v8 RB7 and Rb8 in person, and those sound really good.
@@RespectTheLegend agreed it sounds much better in person than on TV.
The sound the engine makes.
Hard to beat the classic v8 rumble
the mode button or "Placebo mode button" is the most stupid gimmick Acura marketing could have invented and invested on. Does nothing for their cars!
Unfortunate because it would only add to the experience if it did
@@BCars_Garage Acura is trying too hard to be like ever other manufacturer. I owned a used Acura legend 1989 LS, of course it had a lot if miles on it and suspension was shot when i drove it. But to the point the car drove smoothly and shifted smoothly. The smooth v6 had a good amount of power, superbly comfortable and well appointed for its time. I finally bought a brand new 2011 MDX base and this car has been excellent, comfortable and reliable. Since it was the base model there sre no gimmick buttons or modes, just a naturally aspirated 6 cylinder engine with 300HP.
@danielmelendez9943 I'm not sure when they made this poor decisions but it's certainly hurting the brand. Also I owned a 92 Acura Legend and absolutely loved that car
Felt that through these headphones! ❤️
Not to mention, the sound is awesome!🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶💜
@@Taffy924 I use it to help me sleep at night
@@BCars_Garage smart man!

You can only do that when it’s warm though, And you usually have to pump the pedal anyway
@James-ej7wz this is true. Well worth the wait though
If you want to make a believable video.. Let go of the key when you add the engine sound track....
Its a dream right can only fake it so much haha. The ol 289 has a long ways to go
Hopefully, you got extended warranty. You don't want to spend $5K on a new turbo when it inevitably fails.
@@AcuraAddicted I did and glad I it as the head gasket went at 74k miles (120km) and it was thankfully covered it was an engine out ordeal so I can't imagine what that would have set me back
The recall will be officially announced to their customers on october 17th. Dealers were made aware on October 3rd and the FCA posted it on September 27th. They have no software update or batteries...
@@snootyfox.indahouse so a recall with no fix?
Yup
Don’t feel bad. I have a 2024 Acura MDX and there was a recall for the shaft bearings. This recall was from November 2023. I’ve try a few months to set a date for recall and every time they kept telling parts unavailable. Until my motor blew up about 1 month 1/2 ago. So my car been in the dealer for that long waiting on a motor. So go to NHTSA.GOV and put your vin number and check for recalls. Due to the recall they have to replace the whole motor in my car for free. My car has 130k now. After this I’m going to sell that car and probably going with 2024 Lexus GX-550. I had almost every model Acura makes. I’m just done with them. At least Toyota when they know they have a problem they announce it to everyone. Honda on the other hand they want to kick the can down the road until your leaves you on foot. I wish you the best of luck.
Basically it. My 2019 was slightly different but essentially the same. The plastic fasteners (2) on the 4:17 intake were a bit of a hassle so expect to break one. Loosen the filter housing screws, tip it up and yank out the old one, replace new. Very useful video. Thanks.
I double dog dare you!
@aarongolden1891 now I feel like I have to try it 😄
