Brompton in Manhattan - A New York Surprise Ep. 3
Join us on our last two days in NYC. We really didn't expect to see what we saw in Central Park and our last days cycling in Manhattan was possibly our best. I also got to try out another Brompton. It's just a shame I couldn't take it home!

BROMPTON IN MANHATTAN - A NEW YORK SURPRISE EP.2
Переглядів 459Місяць тому
Following on from EP. 1, it was the day of the surprise. The rain fell, the Brompton was out early morning, and I was able to take in the lights of Time Square with little or no disruption. The surprise went well and we all had a blast before we resumed to our Brompton excursion around downtown NY followed by a smidge of Brooklyn.

When our son told us he was off to the States, we figured we'd go and surprise him. What a great opportunity to try out our new B&W cases and get these Brompton's around NYC!

A TRIP TO BATTERSEA WITH SURPRISES ALONG THE WAY!

Episode two of our trip to London for a spot of Brompton touring. Our final day sees us cycling down to Battersea for a jaunt around Battersea Park before venturing to the repurposed power station. On our way back to the hotel, I suffer a possible near miss at the hands of a cycle jacker and T takes a tumble when a couple of pedestrians fail to notice the cycle lane, before we make our way thro...
A Brompton Tour around London

Four like minded Brompton riders take a 40k trip around London, taking in the sights of the city and learning a bit about capital during the journey.
Lovely video just can’t get enough of scenes of a Brompton biking through the English towns and countryside. Question: it looks like you have the IKEA bag that is popular among Brompton owners, do you feel comfortable slinging it around your shoulder and feel it strong enough, not to have the Bromton wear -through? Obviously, but, if you could just describe how well this works and how long you think the bag will last?
It's odd seeing that Covid memorial at the end, considering the hospitals were empty.
You guys love your jeans man. 🥰
😂 I hadn't even noticed that in the vlog before. I can't answer for the others, but I don't wear jeans too often. That said, they are very easy to pack. Cheers for watching.
HINT………Carry a can of ‘Deep Heat’ spray, for any aches and pains, be very careful NOT TO GET IT IN YOUR EYES
Not a bad idea at all. Cheers.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in you get where I’m coming from, don’t you?
Absolutely. I'm guessing it's not for my use! 😆
False advertising! As a little more than Standard Size Dane I'm not - at all able to put my Brompton in my B&W black box, without taking it mostly apart!! And if so, all bikes are "Folding Bikes"! The only way I may do it with out, is to use a Telescope Post, which will near double the weight of my now, well below 9 kilo, and much former than 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton (All Danish Bromptons are delivered with a 600mm Post, as Standard, without extra payment, for our Sins (and mudguards, as Danes)! And it won't fit inside a B&W box) 😄. And do protect your frames against scratches during Folding! I did gave my - New Brompton a full Auto Polish as a first, and found out that after two or three folds, one clear tape "Protection" had been near worn through to the paint!! And the Chinese Export rose with several % after finding this out, and building a new "Brompton Protection Plate, Industry" from that! In all colors and materials! Finn. Denmark
Hi Finn, now I'm very confused! However, that's not an unusual state to be in these days. It must be my age. On this occasion, however, I'm confused at the fact that you cannot get your Brompton into a B&W case without a certain amount of dismantling. I am 6'3" so find the standard post far too short. As such, I currently have three Bromptons, all of which have longer than standard seat posts fitted. My M6L has a 580mm Bromptification post, and my CHPT3 V2 and my P-Line have 600mm posts fitted. As you will see from the New York vlog, both my CHPT3 and my P-Line fit in the cases with just the need to remove the seat. I'm guessing there's only one size B&W case? 🤔 Thanks for watching and commenting BTW.
...in fact, I'm so confused, I'm going home to measure my Brompton tonight!
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I tried to put it into my B&W box (The Black Luggage version on wheels. I think they have made it a little larger, but not much?). And it didn't fit with my long seat post without being removed - sadle off and out from the bottom!! For now I use a Black Titanium Standard Length, 535mm post with a turned below saddle clamp, and I do hope that this may enable it to be put inside? I just pull it out to full length. But as a Heavy Dane (Not a Great Dane!) I punch it down during rides, so it isn't that effective! I will try some friction paste though? Finn
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I admit, it may have been enough to remove the sadle, but for a good measure, I removed both!! Finn
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I still find having to remove my saddle too much for a named, Folding Bike! I may have been able to leave my post in the bike, but I didn't try that! I did remove my post also. By that I'm 76 and my dear wife complains about my lack of memory, near every day! And I am a little past 6" as 184cm. Finn. Denmark
Brakes - NOT Breaks. Totally different!
Oh yeah. Dooh! 😆
Could do without that monotonous background noise - it isn’t needed.
Please speak! A commentary would add SO SO much to a great video.
Hi John thanks for watching and commenting. I do try add some commentary to some vlogs here and there, but I will take your advice and try and add a bit more. Thanks once again. Mal.
Did not see much of an accident!
No. It was just a tumble.
it's called "Click bait"!
Actually your wife had the correct terminology. We say "getting on the train", rather than "getting on the subway" here in NY. I like your brommie vlogs.
I will let her know. She'll be overjoyed with that! 😆I'm glad you enjoy the vlogs. More to follow. Thanks for watching. Mal.
I noticed that on one way street, you are riding on the left side. Just like home. I tend to do the same too.
A lot of the time I do it without realising, which isn't healthy! 😬It can be very confusing too, particularly on the larger roads where locals seem to ride both sides. It's all good fun though. Thanks for watching.
Me ha gustado el vídeo y, especialmente, los últimos minutos, desde el 18:51. 👍
Sí, explorar Time Square en bicicleta es increíble. Aunque lo prefiero temprano en la mañana. Gracias por ver.
I like your Brompton's attitude.
Many thanks!
Thought he was having your brompton for a minute then 😢
I think he thought he was having my Brompton too. Gotta be careful out there. Thanks for watching. Safe cycling.
Buena edición, buen vídeo. 👍
Muchas gracias. Gracias por ver.
I used to work in London Custom House and sang Christmas Carols in All Hallows-by-the-Tower in 2016. Subbed. ❤
Ahh, passed that church on many an occasion but never ventured in. Great location. Thanks so much for commenting and subbing. I'm sure there will be more London content soon. Cheers.
I loved it, thank you for sharing these beautiful bike rides 😊👍🚴💫
Many thanks for commenting. More to follow.
I love your videos. I own a Brompton and love it. Would love to take it to London one day. I’ve been there for vacation but now that I have a Brompton, I’d love to come back. New subscriber here. Keep with the videos!! I’ll be watching. 🥰
Thank you so much for the positive comments. They are very much appreciated. I highly recommend riding a Brompton around London. We have been visiting the city for years and have been too many times to count. But, we get to see so much more now that we take our Bromptons with us. Add it to your wish list and good luck with your plans. Thanks for subscribing too.

What a well documented video! I really enjoyed the tour.
That is good to hear. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting too.
You’ll have to let me know next time you’re in Brum/London 🤘🏾
Absolutely!
Great video. I did a 40km amble around London yesterday. Got an early train there and late one home.
It's a great city to cycle around. Thanks for commenting.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I'd like to come back but this time hug the river. At first I thought it wasn't allowed but I've seen a few videos where people do this. Maybe Easter sunday if the trains are running.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in Also very flat compared to Bristol. My Brompton is manual.
Yeah, I try and stick to the river where I can. But we do get a bit distracted at times and venture a bit further in land. Happy riding whichever you chose.
Great first two videos, super entertaining, hope to see more Brompton adventures! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for commenting. I have a few Brompton vlogs on my other channel, 'Campervan Habitude'. But, I'm trying to dedicate this channel just to my love of these bikes and the adventures we have planned. Hopefully, I will get some more out soon. Thanks again.
Great video, It's a pity the potential hijacking tarnished your trip. How are you finding the gear range on the P-Line? Cheers 👍
All part of the experience. Thankfully, I wasn't on my own. You may be able to tell, the three speed P Line doesn't hang around. But, city riding is totally different to the long slog in a more rural setting. I think the range is ideal for me though.
What an eventful ride 😖 Glad everyone was alright and another great video!
Cheers Miles. We all left happy!
Really makes me miss London! Always something Interesting to see.😊
We do quite a bit around London and have another vlog out this week to so, hopefully you'll like that too. Thanks for commenting.
Great fun! Really enjoyed whizzing around London with you and no effort needed on my part... Some interesting facts about the Great Fire of London I never knew. Epic view of St Pauls as you went up Cannon Street. Were you riding 3 or 6 speed Bromptons? Brompton should sponsor you for that video. Hope the pizza was good.
Cheers Caroline. I included a similar trip on another channel I have, 'Campervan Habitude', but the weather was better and the route and numbers participating slightly different. I've started this channel so the campervan followers don't get too fed up with me banging on about Bromptons all the time. There are some good Brompton trips on there though. Including our trip to NY. The bike I was on was a three speed P Line, Ruth was on my CHPT3, which has been converted to a two speed so it's even lighter. I'm due to release another vlog of us the following day. That includes a trip to Battersea Power Station and a collision between T and a pedestrian as we made our way to Euston. No injuries incurred. Thanks for watching and commenting. Pizza was great.
Great video folks! Can’t wait to catch more ❤ hopefully see you on a LBC ride?
Cheers Mickey. The LBC ride would be epic. Hopefully catch you there soon. Come and say hi if you see us. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Nice tour
Many thanks.
Very interesting. How long did it take? 👍
Many thanks. It took us around six hours, but it wasn't rushed. We stopped off at a few places and spoke to Larry for quite some time too. This is a new channel for me, but I used to include a few Brompton rides on my other channel, 'Campervan Habitude'. You can find a previous similar trip on that channel too. However, there was a couple of differences, including a ride on the Elizabeth Line underground, which opened on the day of our ride. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in Thanks for the reply. I might try this trip this summer. Cheers 👍
