ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, NATTY Hybrid Athlete (Weight Training/Calisthenics/Jump Rope) and former fat guy trying to spread his love of fitness to the world. Fitness isn't just about being in shape and looking good - it's paramount to positive mental health; something I think the world at large could use a little bit of help with at the moment.
My hope is to make fitness more accessible to people by showing that you can get into great shape, and stay in great shape, using a number of modalities - it's not always about just displacing weights in a gym!

Wanted to abstract a portion of this video that I struggled with, editing-wise, since it was kind of an important part (struggled removing the blur effect on that portion for some reason).
Some small editing additions to flesh things out a bit more as well.

Here, I mention some of the important reasons why having your own personal diet is essential and mention some of the science behind weight loss and taste. Link below. In any case, this is how I eat. I read your “shameless fitness plug” in the comments section of the Redditt Beginner Fitness page, so I followed that comment to your UA-cam page. After reading ‘About You’ and checking out this video, your no nonsense approach resonated with me, so I SUBSCRIBED. After surviving a near death experience, I wholeheartedly agree with you “fitness isn’t just about being in shape and looking good, it’s paramount to positive mental health.” But for the grace of God, I am alive. It is only through mental and physical therapy that I am able to live!!! 🧡
That is awesome to hear! There’s nothing more motivating than feeling like you have a second lease on life. A lot of people would kill for that feeling, so don’t take it for granted! 🙏🏾 Thank you for the sub!
my brother in christ turn the music down a lil bit. great info though
You're not getting the point they make in the video....
@@richenelpanchoe3879 thanks for clarifying
They talk about this point in their video. It's true muscle burns more than fat however the exact difference is not that large. The video is based off of metabolic research from Dr Herman Pontzer who wrote a book about his research called "Burn". The book goes into more details about the ways in which exercise is very important to us but unfortunately exercise won't have the biggest impact on weight loss in a direct way. It can help people who have lost weight keep weight off but the exact mechanisms behind this are unclear. Some other research suggests it might be that exercise increases the diversity of bacteria in our microbiome. The book is worth reading. Also if exercise works to help some people lose weight then do what works for you. The science we have now points to diet being the best method of control for fat loss overall. Dr. Pontzers research is far from the only one to have this finding. The big reason we have been lied to about this calories in calories out is from the food industry. They want to make us think that drinking a 200 calorie soda isn't that big of a deal because we can "burn it off". When that isn't the whole picture.
Thank for the good-faith critique. This is one of 15 videos and I do address this in the very next video in this series of Reels. I generally think the standards for energetic output are low enough that the average person can maintain a level of activity that will allow them to easily hurdle that small average increase in metabolic activity you mentioned. Furthermore, larger muscles correlate to larger/stronger/denser bones, which are generally more metabolic than muscle tissue. I probably should have brought that up in the video. If you'd like a fuller context for my position on this, please watch this supercut of the reels I put together. I'd appreciate your feedback: ua-cam.com/video/8OsSPtXHkUY/v-deo.html
Btw they reworked the video to be less misleading@@SLFKimosabae
@@Cannot-A-Loupe Yeah, I know. The differences are very subtle, however. I've been thinking about doing something more comprehensive in response to it, but I kind of want to give them a chance to do their promised nutrition video before I respond to them again (which actually seems like it might not be happening anymore). In either case, I have a lot more to say on this topic coming soon.

Hey brother, my name is John and I'm watching you from Greece, before I watch this video I wasn't able to do 5 push ups and not even 2 pull ups, I was doing the bodybuilding exercises that showed me in the gym, but now after only s month doing the things you show I am able to do 30 push ups in a row with 3-4 sets, and 10 pull ups in a row, and by the way I'm a person with movement disabilities, thank you again brother.
My man! Sorry I didn't see this earlier! Is this for real? If so, I am so happy and thankful that I was able to aid you in your journey! Thank you so much for the kind words! You've brightened my day!
I expected to be disappointed, but it ended up being a good point. Good nuanced addition. 👍
Please post your published research in order to compare results, because those studies were done in thousands of humans instead of 1 dude (you)
Nah this the best album since The Eminem Show without a doubt / Encore
I mean... did you watch the video? I pretty much said as much.
This.. is golden lmao
Drop a sub and a share if you can! More to come!
Ive realized that part of snacking for me is actually more of a stimming behavior from ADHD/ASD. Since realizing that, I try to ask myself WHY I feel the urge to snack before doing anything, and then push it off for like 15 minutes at a time if I still dont know why, while trying to do some other stimulating activity. Usually I end up not actually wanting a snack, but some kind of entertainment or outlet! Lmao Those signals can be hard to notice and organize though, especially if someones neurodivergent. If anyone reading this relates, Ive found this awareness to be a nice bonus from practicing mindfulness in the context of DBT
Also it can really help with the emotional side of food too! Since its less focused on 'am I losing weight,' which often ends up closely tied to self-esteem, depression (which exercise helps with too lmao), and 'emotional eating,' its a lot easier to maintain the habits that actually allow for maintained weight loss. The less pressure and self worth that are involved, the easier it is to be kind to ourselves and keep going regardless of smaller demotivators You make some great points in all of these!
Found these from the comment section of their video, after feeling like something was fishy there. This content is great, and there needs to be more people who have the experience/expertise that call stuff out like this. Cause somehow people still havent learned that virality doesnt equal truth lmao Even the sources in their own video adress that its just one of several possible models, referring to it as a hypothesis. Idk about others, but Id much rather trust someone with the lived experience and results rather than some numbers from a (potentially biased) study. Keep up the great content! Also, you might wanna consider slightly lowering the background music volume a little/messing with EQ settings. Its still understandable, but a little harder to hear you sometimes lol
Not sure how I missed this comment, but I appreciate the kind words and critique. You're not the first person to tell me about the EQ
I strongly agree that there is a direct correlation between how much I sleep and how likely I will eat hyperpalatable food. I agree that hormonal regulation is a key cause of this.
Yeah, was really surprised to see that in the video. Feels like good sleep and dieting is intuitive at this point.
Hey Bro I am Brasil 🇧🇷, sou brasileiro irmão, ótimo vídeo, good vídeo.... 💪
the first listen i was a bit underwhelmed but i could tell it was one of those albums you gotta hear many times too really appreciate all the nuances and references, also, if you decide t ogive it another listen through, listen to the songs in reverse order.. i believe thats how its meant to be played...
Reverse order? Really? GTFO. Definitely going to try this ASAP. That's definitely Kendrick's influence making Em a better artist for sure, if that's the case
am i the only one who thinks his more mechanical rapping is fire?
Surely not. There's many that like it for sure, but I'd wager it's more newer than older fans in terms of percentages.
Sir you left your "COMB" in your Hair 😂
too good and precise makes it fail as an art , don't understand you on that bro just don't maybe your not the people he's making it for and bro i have no idea where you get the idea he's still seeking acceptance bro your lost as with that comment all love tho

It's absolutely outstanding

Much love! Please drop a sub if you haven't already and help a brother out!
I see you trying to counter their point but I don’t understand what you’re trying to say.
Could you possibly go into detail about what you didn't think was clear? Did you realize this is one video of 15?
@@SLFKimosabae Might just be me but after seeing it again. Feels like too much to absorb from one short. This short might turn some people off from clicking on the other related shorts unless getting people to rewatch multiple times till they get it is your goal. In that case, bravo 😂 🙌 🎉
@@busybeebaez That's fair. I considered doing it as one long video, but I wanted to quickly respond to it, and shorts help bring people to the channel. I am giong to do a "supercut" of sorts and stitch them all together as one long response now that I'm done with the shorts
@@busybeebaez I appreciate the feedback
Number one, kurzgesagt is more popular than you and gives better information and helps people understand unlike you
I'm sorry I'm not as popular as Kurzgesagt, but I don't think popularity has anything to do with information quality. Please realize that this is one short of 15, that I have high regard for their channel, and my goal is to help people understanding things just as well as they do. Kurz got some things wrong/lacked nuance in some areas, if you just read the comments on the video. I'm trying to provide a fuller picture.
Idk, it really just seems like information from a different place, not necessarily any 'worse' information. I looked through the og videos citations and sources, and there a lot thats being extrapolated from them that hasnt been applied in physical settings. Im gonna trust the super built person with lived experience over numbers on a page lmao And popularity has nothing to do with correctness. Just look at politics lmfao
It's a fire album. Period. This level of consistency is what made him 🐐 to me. He use to read the dictionary when he was little and it paid off. ❤
I still read the dictionary. He probably got the habit from Malcom X.
People that call this album trash are used to bobbing their heads up and down like a good boy to Migos or Drake songs. Or a bunch of prison hoodrats who have more in common with Bars you stand behind than catch in a song.

Do me a favor and drop a sub if you found this interesting talk about. I have more thoughts about hip hop that I want to share on this channel coming up real soon and I'm curious as to what ya'll think
Agree completely. Music to be Murdered by was better.
MTBMB was him being even more focused technically and lyrically more dense tho. Not that it's bad, but that's why he's saying his music has not been "palatable"
Better? Definitely need to listen to it again. Drop a sub so that when I talk about it, you're still around!
side b was fuckin dope but idk if its better 🤔
Mixed? My guy, Em is killing in it. Like, he detrone Taylor Swift on spotify (she was for 12 weeks straight the number one I think, before the release of TDOSS). That album is going to be platinum. And we are all waiting for side B. He already broke a lot of records...
@@dominicpalladini7290 well, I guess in regards to “mixed” im referring to critical reception, which I provided receipts for in the video haha

Thanks for the review! Listening to Eminem helped me with the flow of my own language when I was writing a novel 12 years ago. But since then I had mostly forgotten about him. (There is only so much time to listen to music, and I like so many genres ...) Now I will definitely listen to that new album.
"Only so much time to listen to music"? I feel like music-listening is the ultimate multitasking hobby unless you're working under supervision for an unhealthy and substantial amount of time lol

You also need to keep in mind that you have a new maintenance intake. Part of gaining it back is you can’t eat how you were maintaining 150 when you’re now 120! Some of the best advice I’ve heard is to recheck your maintenance and deficits every week because they’ll change with your weightloss.
Yup! This point is incoming in probably the next video or two
Great video 🔥 What do yall think about using Normotim for dieting?
Hi! Im generally extremely skeptical regarding most supplements since they are not FDA regulated and often have little evidence supporting their efficacy. This goes triply for anything suggesting brain empowerment like nootropics. Sleep, eat well, exercise, and constantly learn new things that challenge your brain. These are things we know promote brain health with evidence
It actually says that, in the video.
@@TheLukeWhoNukes Says what? They mention that having more muscle mass and being more active increases your caloric budget, but they draw the conclusion that that doesn’t matter because your body makes adjustments that will sabotage you. We’re drawing two different conclusions from the set of facts.
@@SLFKimosabaehey, thanks for the video, is their conclusion untrue? Why did they reach that conclusion? Is it true that you can increase your calorie budget by gaining muscle
@@prcr364 Their conclusion isn't untrue, it's just incomplete, with cherry-picked data. I believe they draw these conclusions about fat loss and exercise in the video because they want to emphasize the importance of diet in weight loss to their audience, which I agree with, but I don't think should be done at the expense of exercise. I think they are two sides of a similar coin. "You can't outwork a bad diet" is a well-worn platitude. You most definitely can increase your caloric budget with muscle gain, though the effect size can wildly vary. Larger muscles often correlate to larger and stronger bones as well, which are also metabolically demanding.
@@SLFKimosabaeit's actually untrue. There's heaps of mainstream conflicting evidence. This is a radical fringe bit of research that somehow got picked up by Kursgesagt

@@sinodax13 im framing it!
Pretty sure they get sources from the web and ask a few scientists for info, also different people have different body types, as in how easily they burn fat
Yup. No argument here. The title is click-baity, not much of what Kurzsgesagt is saying is "wrong" per se, it's just missing some much needed context IMO. There's a narrative growing that exercise is useless regarding weight loss and this video adds fuel to that fire, due to it being so popular. I want to combat that narrative.
Most people (including myself rn) carry a lot of excess weight - namely fat. Fat is metabolically active as well, burns calories at "idle" but obviously in movement as well by increasing exercise intensity. I wonder if the obese population skewed the studies' results? Skinny "active" vs Obese "sedentary" is not a fair comparison.
That is a fair and nuanced point. I would argue that bone density would contribute more to an obese person's metabolic rate than their adipose tissue, however, at least at rest. I definitely plan on addressing my thoughts on the Hadza tribe comparison. While it is insightful and adds nuance to the topic, it is only one study, that AFAIK, hasn't had any replications or follow ups (outside one examining their microbiotic genes).
