Hi Ryan, Very cool coaster holder, are you able to customize with a particular band name or school? This might help increase sales. Good luck with your new journey into the 3 D print world, it looks like you’re off to a good start.
Thanks! Yes that is something I offer in the listing. Can add any High school, college or affiliation name or color!
What slicer are you using?
Mainly Bambu Studio!
Do what you want, go your own way, cause it's your life.
Don't you worry about tangles letting the loose end of the filament flop out of the AMS like that?
I was originally, but I haven’t had any issues. I tend to check the spools before and after I load them and put a filament clip on them.
Great job! Having a business is hard and you are fine tuning your way! Keep up the great work!
I appreciate the encouragement! I'm really excited about where this is going!
I posted a video about using PETG as the interface layer and the settings to use to get it to print and support near perfectly. Be nice, it's my first real youtube video haha.
You need some sliceworx plates (or similar plates). Leave the bed adhesives in the past. As the great Dominic Toretto once said, I’ll die before I go back.
Haven’t used any adhesive since using my Creality - only thing I put on the build plate is isopropyl alcohol to get residual grime off in-between prints.
I'd like to see the settings you are using for the pets in the supports.
where did you get that a1mini ams lite mount?
Can you put links to the tools you use.
Hi Ryan, Where do you get that corrugated packing paper?
I buy it on Amazon!
I would print that snaredrums holder in 2 pieces and glue then together honestly. No support needed but just the bottom.
I tried that, the supports were basically still the same because of the lips of over hangs on both rims. Even when gluing it together, it was taking more time than just peeling the supports off. Good tip though!
That’s exactly what I was going to say just do a subtraction from the columns into the top ring
You should place both objects in the sun and see a real comparison.
you forgot to stress test the filaments. lol
What are you cleaning your print beds with??
So it looks like you are using PLA for the coasters. I'm curious on how well they would last with hot fluids? I'm planing on doing some coasters for my current (non 3d) etsy store, and was going to use PETG. Thoughts?
Print settings for these filaments on Bambu?
Anybody ever tell you that you sound like Vin Deisel?
I can never unhear this! 😂
@@TheMountainMaker me either. I repeat the video just to listen! It’s really prominent in the beginning of the videos!
Great information, but I have a question. I want to make two 45 degree bevel meshing gears for a drum sander. The gears are used to raise and lower the bed so there is some stress to it. What would be the best Filament to use tocreate those gears (solid fill). Thanks!
The Vader statue! 💪
at around 3:00, what is that you're using to clean the beds. What liquid are you using. I have the A1i I got to take my bed to the kitchen sink about once a week. Normally I wipe it with 91% alcohol
I came here to ask the same question
It is just a bed plate cleaner I found on MakerWorld, it allows me to attach a piece of microfiber cloth to clean the plate. What I am spraying is 90% isopropyl alcohol that I just put in a small spray bottle. Has worked great with any filament I have used!
@@DesignsByBrodhead Thanks much. I fojund a bed cleaner on Amazon and didn't likeit at all. Returned it. I do use 91% alcohol after every print using a woven cloth. I'll look on Maker World for the one you got. It looked like a piece of sand paper wrapped around a block of wood.
Interested, but can't watch the camera/you swinging back and forth
Congrats on your success fellow jersey printer! what program are you using for designing? Iv meddled with tinkercad and i have fusion360 but have not attempted yet. also a suggestion maybe a small drum shelf would be really cool design. i see a lot of these hexegon style shelves people use for funko pops and things. you may be able to easily adapt this into a small shelf of some kind!
Jersey gang! I mainly use TinkerCad and Shapr3D, started by using them on my laptop and PC but more recently have been using my iPad now that I’m getting better. And that’s a great idea!
Have you considered using a cork sheet under the coaster? It may add more grip to the product and it's probably cheaper (also adds a nice finish and texture)
I actually used cork originally for my coasters but they were about $0.50/sheet per coaster. The clear adhesive bumpers I use are only $0.03/each so only about $0.72/per set. As opposed to about $3/set if I used cork. Good idea though!
I have an Ender 3 V3 KE and I saw that you also have one. I am thinking about making the transition from Creality to Bambu Labs and I might get the A1 Mini. How big a of a print volume step down is it from the KE to the A1 Mini. I want to switch the Bambu Labs to be able to do color prints.
Loved my KE to start - If I were you, I would just go for the full A1 Combo. The small size of the A1 mini will limit you a lot IMO. Best of luck!
@ ok sounds good!
This is such a great idea with so many possibilities! Keep going with this, you’re on a gold mine of options I think. 🎉
I am really excited about where this is going, thanks for the encouragement!
For me sparkle filaments tend to clog on my P1S, may / probably be the off brand ? FXAAGFH, SILK, tri color, tho I saw no mention of glitter but upon examination magnifying and microscope, there is glitter.
I have done about 5-6 prints with the glitter PLA so far with no issues, even did a few normal PLA prints in between them to make sure it was safe. Kinda surprised because you aren't the first person to say that about glitter/sparkle filament -- going to need to be careful with it. Thanks for the tip!
I'm playing with the idea of making coasters myself, I have designed few and learnt very early on printing face down saves time and filiament - it also allows you to as a negative part - imprint your logo or company name on the underneath of each product ( on top of the print whiles it printing) with very little additional time I couldn't see on the black set of coasters if you have, if you have - thumbs up - if not maybe consider it?
That is something I have been experimenting with, just haven't found a method I enjoy. Thanks for the tip though!
Very clever! Def a lot of music nerds out there who will like this stuff. Meant in a positive way. 😁
Thanks! Trying to find a niche I enjoy and just completely take it over, Lol
Great Scot…..Cool Car. Doing mine on my A1 Mini
Good luck! What a fun project!
Love watching your journey. One suggestion for the drum insert, rather than one insert for the pencil holder and another for the drum, just make the full drum insert hollow on the bottom so people can turn it over and one side has the top of the drum and the other side is the pencil holder. Keep up the great work!
One step ahead of you - first one combining the two is printing right now 👍 great tip, thank you!
Use a white or clear PETG as the support interface. Set it up as if it were an actual support filament. 0 top Z distance, 0 interface spacing, etc. I'll try to make a video about it this week.
I will have to try that out! I've been trying to find the perfect support and settings for PLA.
I love Giantarm's silk filaments! They're super consistent and the finish they give when printed with slow outer layers is really nice.
I totally agree! It’s one of my favorites along with the MatterHackers so far.
Great little project. I really like it.
I'm sure you already know this, but just in case... the sparkle/glitter filaments are fairly abrasive, so you'll want to have a hardened steel nozzle for those. Fortunately they're cheap ($12) and ridiculously easy to install. Also, just an observation on your 'full drum' inserts. You're presenting them as two different inserts, one solid to be a drum, the other a pencil cup. But really, the pencil cup design could serve as both - just print the bottom face in white. That way you could promote the product as 'two uses in one', depending on which way the insert is oriented, which might appeal to your customers.
I actually have a hardened steel nozzle and another stainless steel 0.2mm I use for other small details, didn’t think to use it on the sparkle PLA - thanks for the tip! I thought of including it as both, but for now I have added the option for both listings to have add-on’s so they can either buy a pencil holder insert or a drum decor insert in a same or different color for a few extra bucks.
@@DesignsByBrodhead For the $2 price difference, I find it kind of strange that Bambu even bothers with the regular steel hot end. I don't know anything about drum corp, but it looks to me like you're doing the business the right way - find a niche you're familiar with, and dig in. Best of luck with the new products!
A production idea. Split your coaster holder into two parts, rim on the plate, tension rods pointing up. Have the tension rods connect where you have the bulge in the rod so it's not noticeable. Just 3 or 4 few rods that 'click' together, slide fittlings for the rest. OR just a slide fit for all and use some super glue to hold the halves together. No support filament needed, faster print time, very fast assembly time by comparison.
just got my x1 carbon today looking forward to leaning--thanks for the video
That's awesome! I hope you love it - let me know if there is anything I can help you with!
@@DesignsByBrodhead will do thanks
Best of luck with the new product launches! It's fun watching your progress. You mentioned how long you've had your Etsy shop open, but how long have you been 3D printing in general?
Thank you so much! Only been 3D printing since August of 2024, but I started messing around with CAD a few months before that to get my feet wet.
@@DesignsByBrodhead That's exciting to hear! I picked up my first A1 printer (no AMS) on New Years Day and have a similar entrepreneurial mindset. I just started getting my feet wet with TinkerCad within the last week or two. It's been inspiring to watch your process and progress. Keep up the hard work! Thank you for documenting the journey.
What was the cleaning apparatus you used to clean your print bed? That looked handy!
It’s a bed cleaner I found on MakerWorld.com - it allows me to put a piece of micro fiber cloth attached to it to clean the build plate easily with some isopropyl alcohol! They have a bunch of versions that people have made on that site.
@@DesignsByBrodhead - Excellent - Thanks!
It looks so GOOD! Keep up the great work, Ryan!
Is there somewhere that tells you what each setting does and why? Like ironing, what structure to use when, what fill to use and win?
If you hover your cursor over the settings it will briefly tell you what each one does. I honestly use ChatGPT to answer any questions I have and then filter with supplemental research if I need too. But there hasn’t been anything I haven’t been able to find online.
I get way better layer adhesion using PETG than with PLA and together with it being tougher, the PETG just gives me functional parts that last much longer.
I wonder why you don’t get as good layer adhesion with PLA. I would mess around with your bed temp settings for whatever profile you are using for PLA in your slicer. PLA is usually my go-to benchmark filament
@DesignsByBrodhead Not bed adhesion, layer adhesion: how the layers stick to each other and how much force it takes to pull them from each other. Especially with vase mode prints, my experience is that PLA just comes apart way more easily than PETG.
They also have a PLA+ that's supposed to be much stronger and still easy to print.
I’ve used PLA+ before but I’ve had issues with its consistency. Might need to try some again soon.
Cool…..ALWAYS keep thinking how you can make everything better. Try “painting” the sides of the original to make it look like the improved product.
I would try using normal snug supports on the holder. My recommendation is to print with no supports and add minimal supports from what you see. Also designed the drum pegs bigger and more so you do not need supports
Keep the detail on the coasters The more detail customers see the better
Looks really cool, honestly it would have been better if the designer had made the bottom plate of the car in one piece, at least there is no chance of the car breaking apart in three sections 🤔🧐
Like the video. Need slots on sides to grab. I’d make the drum sides solid and see if it prints faster with less post production.
That new holder really lifts the product up. I'm sure people will love it so long as you can justify putting in the extra time and effort. I'd say it just went from Standard to Deluxe 😁
I agree! I think this new design makes a big difference and it was totally worth the extra work. Once I get the process down for post processing and optimize some slicer settings, I think it will be great!
Hi Ryan great improvements looks brilliant, just a suggestion, and don't know about from my own use, try PVA filament it's a bit expensive but could offset post production costs, really enjoy your videos
Had no idea about PVA until I just looked it up -- it looks like a very great option. I am testing some support filament tomorrow but if that isn't successful, might need to buy a spool of PVA to test. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!
Oh yeah!!! That new design is 20 times better looking! The other was cool, but never really got the "snare" look from the holder for sure. Way to assess your product and make the changes needed! It really looks like a snare drum now! Nice work!
I agree, I think the new design is a big improvement! It was definitely missing something!
@@DesignsByBrodhead Ok.....so last night I was at church playing guitar and looked over at our drums and thought of you! lol. And something hit me and I thought I should share it with you. So what about making your holder in somewhat the same manner that an actual snare is made. What about printing out the top and bottom rings separately (flat on ned). And then print "rods" (flat on bed) to be glued into the top and bottom rings. I know this would require assembly, but it would eliminate the need for supports. Resulting in less material, faster printing, and assembly would probably be quicker than removing supports. I know this would mean a whole new approach to the design....but thought I would at least share my thought!
