Chasing vibrations for 2 years | 2004 Impreza WRX
My 04 WRX had a vibration from day one of my ownership. I did a lot a lot of troubleshooting and replaced several parts. They all helped. As the car has over 250K on the chassis and has seen track duty. But they did not completely eliminate the issue. In this video, the mystery is solved.

Im so proud of you ! all the work you did and it finally worked.
@@scowen5392 well thanks!!!
Safety police?! Well, I'm sorry, but I'll have to cite you for using the car jack on the gravel, on a decline in the driveway. Another citation for working in the dark. Then a third citation for the door stop you call a chock. *_YOU'RE BUSTED!!_*
@@robertlee4172 😞 You got me. Guilty as charged. But, man....I REALLY wanted to see if the car would drive better. I just couldn't wait. I'll do better 😏
@@MaqsVids Well, on the other hand, you did trouble shoot the problem properly and got the wobble out of the tire. Just be careful when working under the car. BTW, use the vacuum line to draw in some carbon cleaning liquid, like Berryman's or Seafoam. That shit does wonders in cleaning out pistons and cylinders.
Thank you for sharing this! I'll be doing this for my Dad's truck in the spring. Way more rust, but the same symptoms!
Dope video. Looks better with the stock wheels imo. How much did you spend on all those new bushings and control arms?
@@Daniel-pc2ov Thanks! I don't like to think about how much I spent. 😞 But the bushings (All I actually needed) were around $50 if I remember correctly. The lower control arms were like $120 or $130... something like that.
Great vid
Take the radiator fans out, it's like 2 bolts and 2 plugs and it'll give you way more room
Thanks! I need to put all the tips in one post and someone could knock this out in 3 minutes.
nice video, next time just skip the annoying music, which serves no purpose
@@timdoyle2871 Thanks! I will take your advice to heart. But I love music. 😞😔 What do you think about the music in this video? ua-cam.com/video/vTczDX0XPis/v-deo.htmlsi=pIMupWvnyl4oKTZm 😜
What can you do if you did not place the car on maintenance mode before doing this and the EPB is fully compressed now. Asking for a friend 🤦♂️
@@carlmanu If you can put the pads in, proceed as you normally would. Once everything is back together, test the parking brake. There is a good chance "your friend" is ok. I have done that as well.
@@MaqsVids that’s the problem. I can’t place the caliper back because the piston is fully compressed(extended) and I’ve tried several times placing the car in maintenance mode but it won’t decompress the piston.
@carlmanu ahhh I see. It will rotate in. But, you will feel the resistance of the electric motor as you rotate it in. If you haven't, give that a shot.
@@MaqsVids thanks for your promt replies. I appreciated that. I ended up removing the EPB motor from the caliper and manually retracted the piston with an 8mm in order to fit the caliper in. It brakes great after bleeding the lines off air but now the EPB on that side doesn’t seem to be actuating and I get a “Electronic Parking Brake Malfunction” message on the infotainment which has to be cleared by placing maintenance mode off but it will reappear again when you activate the EPB. So it seems the EPB motor doesn’t reset when reseting the EPB malfunction… more work to do I guess 😅. Liked your video and subscribed!
Im obviously here for the VW content… but not gonna lie the early 2000s wrx are my guilty pleasure. Wish they didn’t require pulling the engine for so many routine services but honestly that first rumble was satisfying bro! Cheers!!!
Now we just need to get you a mk4 gti so you got some 1.8t action!!!!
I really want a GTI. If I ever get one it'll probably be a MK4. But, If I find one for a steal of a different generation I might have to jump on it. And I'm with you. I love how WRXs drive but I hate working on those flat four engines.
@ the 1.8t has most the fun of the wrx, but easy to work on without dropping the engine or pulling the front end off. I think the mk4 is the pinnacle of gti but the mk5 is close in ease of maintenance, and the mk7 has all the charm and looks 🤌🏽
Why the plastic bags under the tires?
@@AW-fb8hr It allows the wheels/tires to rotate more freely while adjusting the alignment.
is there a way to know your exact mileage on these trucks ? like with a scanner or something ?
I don't think there is a way. Those were so simple. The odometer was it......as far as I know.
@ i just bought a 89 chevy and the odometer is stuck too i kinda just wanted a general idea
How much is the price
120ft# for plugs?
@@mattbartolovich8228 😂 Nah. INCH Pounds. But you're right, that would be a lot. Go back and re-listen 👍
Hey man where did you get the new clutch
Beautiful truck I got a baby blue one so beautiful too
Thanks for making the video. I got lucky replacing the corroded front lower control arms on my Bugeye WRX. Subaru sells a repair kit that includes both control arms WITH ball joints installed for $118. Would have been >$400 if i bought arms and ball joints separately.
I felt all of your pain and waning patience watching this.
Thank You for the video. I just completed this job and it helped. A few notes A) I removed the wheel and inner panel. This make access to the tensioner and belt much easier. B) I disconnected the radiator hose in front of the alternator. This make access to the lower mounting bolt and moving the alternator around much easier. C) I did not touch the radiator support crossbeam, fans, or radiator(what a time saver) D) I removed the oil dipstick and exhaust heatshield. This allows you to turn the alternator pulley facedown and pull it out toward the center the vehicle next to the radiator fill E) Be extremely careful. There's thin wires connected to the underside of the bracket at the back of the alternator. These wires go down to a sensor below the alternator. You really cant remove these wire until the alternator is pulled out slightly. It would be extremly easy to accident rip these wires out and many videos fail to metion them
Thank you
@@richd3753 You are very welcome!!
Really helpful video. I was able to fix the same problem on my silverado by watching this video.
This feels like slander...
awsome video, cant wait for my wife to crush the mirror 😂😂😂
@hachogonzalez8649 I really hope she doesn't 😂😂 My wife showed me where it happened today. To be fair, it was a tight and narrow area in our neighborhood where people tend to park on the street. And, the hoop was in the street. It was clearer how it happened once I saw it. But still .....😏
Thanks for taking the time and trouble. The hardest part seems to be the wiring.
@@alexmanson1762 It absolutely was. If I did it again it would probably be quicker.
I just installed my powerflex anti roll bushes myself and noticed the difference from the first metre, which was a turn and I agree, the car seems newer. I am just waiting for the rest of my bushings to arrive and let a mechanic install them.
@@marksystemed4678 heck yeah man. You notice it especially if You are very familiar with the car. I was surprised 👍👍👍👌
@MaqsVids Indeed!
Does the kit include bushings for the transmission side of the cables
At last got the video regarding the same issue as my car. And on top of it. My launch control got affected by it too. Launch control goes crazy sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn't. And i came accross the web thay if the vehicle speed sensor is broken. The launch control will not work. Thanks for the video.
Where did you get that pry tool?
@@Placeholder25 I got mine at harbor freight many years ago. But, now Amazon has tons of options. I would get something like this today. amzn.to/3VMUgfD
LED bulbs in non-projector housings are never a good idea. All you’re doing is highbeam people.
@@V1CTORYLAP718 I used to believe that too, but that is not always true. It depends on where the light is coming from and where the LEDs are placed. Originally they placed LEDs all around the bulb and it would shoot straight out of the housing. That is not always the case anymore. If you're interested I can show you on bulbs and regular halogens how things have changed.
The low beam is normal due to the car is left hand drive, that'll be more accurate if you install both side of bulb, and there's a Lil adjustment on the angle. But that's nice for sure, if you want more good in lightning scattered add a fogligth on it. 😊
@@gibo1986 yeah I installed the other one and actually it's way better with both of them installed.
Great video, my polybushes are coming in the the post, front and back wishbone, arb's znd rear beam ones. I'll do the arb's myself and let the mechanic do the rest
My clutch rpm and speedometer are jumping, and my gas is always full. I need help
😲 That's a tough one. The first thing I would check are the electrical grounds. Does the car run smoothly while the RPM is jumping?
@MaqsVids yes it does, I'm guessing it's electrical problem. I changed the speed sensor twice still does it.
@@fatfitnessvang299 This may be tedious to troubleshoot. If you have access to a wiring diagram, I would trace everything that goes to the cluster. If you have trouble finding one I can send you some pictures of one when I get home from work tonight.
bro you are a God, I did this on a Venza, had to remove a bunch of stuff, plus work from the wheel well. I replaced a pulley and the belt mind you. Good job.

Wow glad I caught this video. Definitely need those oil pan catchers.
When you see them white gloves, that's always extra small, you know it's coming from China. Hope it last, it can be hit or miss.
I like how simple the installation was with the new bulbs!
It basically installs like the old style bulb.
body-wise, all you need to take off is the front bumper. The stomper is the 4 screws that hold AC condenser and radiator together. once bumper removed (13 screws) there are literally holes for those four screws in the stuff you removed.
your video helped me see those holes, you can see them 5m;45 seconds into your video
@@thomaskrejci5237 😯😞 Thanks!! I am going to have to refer to this for next time! I see them!!!!

There are timed gates for the renters and they have 24/7 surveillance. This place also makes you carry insurance. And, no entry by anyone after 10 pm. You can get out though. But, I'm sure it depends.
I had to replace my clutch on my Honda Cr-v at the start of november 2022 out in the freezing cold since i had no garage or a roof and I wanted to finish before the snow came and i made it to the finishline just a day before snow came.
