audiobooks have actually been proven to stimulate the same cognitive and emotional parts of your brain as a traditional book. Regardless of what your goal is when you read, whether it be entertainment or to learn, listening to audiobooks is the same as reading. If I listen to an audiobook and can tell you the plot from start to finish, did I not consume the book?

One thing that drives me crazy is people posting photos of their bookshelves but blurring the titles (yes this happens all the time on Twitter 😂)! If you’re not proud of your shelves then just don’t post them?? It’s so strange!

Bring back summaries and not quotes of people praising the book

People who show the pages of books like that drive me crazy. Anytime I see a video like that, I click not interested, don’t recommend this channel. They take forever to show the cover/s and some videos won’t even show it at all. Just reiterating what you said lol but it’s so pointless 😭 and a lot of the time I’ll see what the book is and be disappointed lol But another thing I absolutely hate is when people film books with their camera mirrored, like bestie I cannot read that, it is not that hard to flip your camera so we can see the cover properly. It’s somewhat understandable on TikTok and instagram but longform UA-cam, absolutely no excuse or reason to do that imo

My personal opinion on spoilers is if the book or series has been out for 10+ years, thats on me for not reading it yet. If the book is still pretty new then yes, please stop spoiling it!!

unfortunately i was spoiled for the ENDING of reckless by lauren roberts bc they used the audiobook and at the time, it literally just came out it. i still ended up loving the book but i wish i didn’t see it so i could’ve been more surprised

So many good books that I’m gonna have to add to my tbr. My favorite videos are bookshelf tours and 24 hour reading challenges.

i loved a little life so much. i read it in 11days and didn’t cry much. i just felt numb the whole time and felt like i cannot cry which was disappointing for me because i was so ready for it to rib my heart out. however this book has such a special place in my heart

my friend is the type of reader who more skims over a text, meaning she reads pretty fast (but also often happens to miss details, which is lowkey annoying when im like "read this line" cause theres a funny part or amth and she doesnt see it but ok lol) and great that that works for her- Meanwhile im a slow reader, I try to take in every detail of a text and often go over a line multiple times, which works great for me (n tbf I still man age to get through books in a pretty decent time) but she always feels the need to shit on me for only getting done smaller amountsof pages done in a certain time n stuff ;-; dont do that guys :,D

TBH, I don't think authors should be tagged in any reviews no matter the star rating 🤷‍♀ Reviews are for readers, not authors.

I also have issues with the cringey-ness of audiobook narrators BUT where I will almost exclusively read audiobooks is nonfiction. I love listening to nonfiction audiobooks like it’s an educational podcast 😍 it also just helps me absorb the information better.

As far as buying the entire series and not liking it- why not check the first out of your library and see if you like it before buying the set? I see so many book hauls that end in DNFs and a negative attitude because they spent money on it.

About the audiobook thing: I totally agree! As someone who listens to audiobooks I understand I’m not TECHNICALLY reading it, but I am still EXPERIENCING it. That’s what I think people miss! Reading is about the experience not the way you experience

I plan to let go of my judgmental attitude toward spoilers. I was very snobbish about books before, so I'm on a journey of accepting other people's views. And I don't get the hate for spoilers. For me, knowing the plot or the finale doesn't spoil anything. Moreover, there are tropes and plot structures that clearly indicate the finale. I'm reading a 5 book series right now, and I knew who would be the love match by page 10 of the first one. But I still enjoy it. I used to think that "no spoilers" people are either dumb for not getting the basic structure of stories or read only for the plot, missing everything else. Now, I'm learning to accept that people have a right to their preferences towards spoilers. I wonder what would be the next thing to me to stop being judgemental about lol

I also bought a 14 book series before reading book 1 and i didnt like them so i wasted my money 😂 😅 As an author too, i also really appreciate you asking people not to tag us in negative reviews. I didnt even know that was a thing but that would be horrible! I am also a firm believer in rating books whatever you want. Be honest. I'll give books low ratings if i feel they deserve it. I do try to be fair but your opinion is your opinion.

Publishing is a hot mess right now, I could also see the matching thing being due to the state of the industry. Imprints, incentivizing special editions, etc.

Definition wise audibooks aren't reading. They are a valid way to CONSUME books but technically it isn't reading. BUT most people that say audiobooks don't count as reading aren't talking about semantics. They're just trying to put others who don't consume books like they do down so that they can feel superior.

I don’t really agree with “ hiding” bad reviews from authors (as long as it’s not insulting and mean!) . It’s normal for all kind of arts to be critiqued. If you’re making a song and people point out its flaws then maybe you need to listen so you can improve … same thing for books. Authors (just like everyone in life) should be able to handle criticism idk An author who just looks at the good stuff and ignore all the points that could help them improve will literally never improve .. how is that good? Again, I mean this only when the feedback is negative but is still respectful!

Can we leave behind skimming or skipping massive chunks of the book just because "there are too many words on the page" of course there are going to be words on the page. it's not going to play a hologram of the story for you. And I feel like the reviewers that do skim or skip massive chunks of the book, yet still review that book are not being fair reviewers or fair to the authors that worked hard to make that book

I love spoilers(lowers my anxiety to know what will happen so I can read more happily), but I agree tiktokers need to add spoiler warnings bc most people don't like spoilers. But I don't DNF bc I tend to read 6-10 books at a time(switching books with what I feel like reading) so even if a book sucks, I can just swap when I don't feel like reading it & come back to it later.

I love what you said about reading goals, and how everyone is different! Personally, I set my goal at 75 and I’m almost there. I read a lot and I read books pretty fast too. But my sister has never been a reader hardly at all, and she finally took a few of my recommendations this year!! She’s read 2 - 4 books so far this year, and I am so so proud and happy that she gave reading a try and liked it enough to keep going! For some people, reading at all is an accomplishment and I think it’s important to realize that. Love this video, thank you!
