A fish that size is terrible table fare and should have been released. I strongly encourage you to release any roosters over 5lbs in the future in an effort to protect this fishery. I understand landing this fish was an accomplishment, but PLEASE PLEASE release the larger roosters for generations to enjoy as you did.

HotnHavasu If I was to catch again such a fish I would just release it. It was eatable but the small ones taste so much better, Once again, nothing got wasted, about 40 people had some of this magnificent fish, cooked 3 different ways. So let the big ones go and eat a 3 to 5 pound one.
Roosterfish, whether they are big or little, are not consider "food" fish. There are so many more fish in those waters that are much better eating.

Sorry, we know better now, but if you read my description I wrote: Nothing of it got wasted, the locals even made soup out of the massive bones. They are not as tasty as the younger smaller ones, so if you hook into a big one, catch and release unless you want it mounted or want to share a giant meal with all the people in a local friendly restaurant. @vikyandanna propane is listed as a fossil fuel since it comes from the ground. Awesome vid, though. Would been better if the idiots hadn't got in the way. Don't often see vehicles roll over and then drive off without a scratch.

@msteven515 Just a note, as you can see at the end of the video, the 4x4 has 2 tanks strapped inside . Those are propane tanks. Is propane considered a fossil fuel or a gas? Maybe you knowledgeable folks know more than I do...
