Making the Most Expensive Kind of Cutting Board
You did a beautiful job with this video. I have been woodworking for a couple decades slowly refining my work. I learned so much from watching your methods and dead honesty good and bad. Thank you very much!!
Good luck with your journey, I wish you the best. Video was a bit on the long side but I enjoyed especially the novice problems you faced. Thanks.
We all gotta start somewhere. I’m glad you enjoyed!
love padook
I love padauk too
I’ve heard of backgammon but never really understood it 😢
Funny enough, I have absolutely no idea how to play
@ lol
Love your channel dude. Great mod for this sander. awesome vibes and good quality work 👍🏻
Thanks, man! That really means a lot and makes me excited to keep making content
This clearly wouldn't function as well without the clear cyclone so you can see that it's working
I completely agree
Wow! Such attention to detail.
For a dust collector, I'd say so! haha
nylon locking nuts, tbh i still dont know what happened here
So, I used a 1/4" x 1 1/2" bolt, a washer, then a nut to secure the plywood lid. It just so happens that nut was a nylon locking nut
5:57 not pictured: how intense this was in real life and how absolutely heavy that thing is
0:44 awwwww
for WHAT joints 🤨🤨🤨
1/4 inch to….1/4 inch??? Wouldn’t call that an adapter SET.
Hahaha we’re going from a 1/4” hex head, to a 1/4” square head, back to a hex head for the bolt. I understand the confusion
Really turned out beautiful, nicely done but also a great learning experience and that's valuable. But really enjoy your channel
Great work. As someone who's just starting up their wood shop, I am really enjoying seeing similarities in the ways I work and then learning from your adaptations. I think I'm going to tackle a chess board as my next project. I've been making some patterned ply and it's been a great trial run for accurate glueups. I really like the crosscut sled you're using too. Keep on trucking, Regards, a stranger on the internet :-)
Thanks so much! I'm happy I can offer a perspective similar to your's! I find so many woodworking youtubers are in such an advanced place and I like that I can offer a more intermediate perspective as far as the tools I have and my experience.
Great video and amazing board! However there's 2 details I think you missed that may keep a serious chess player from buying your board. First off is that a regulation chessboard has 2" squares. For most players, this doesn't matter and even tournament players don't always use regulation boards. The 2nd detail is probably the most problematic, and that's your drawer not being segmented to prevent pieces from rolling around and into each other. A nice board like that deserves nice pieces, but those pieces will get dinged or otherwise damaged if they aren't separated while moving the board from storage to tabletop or while traveling. And detail 2.5 is that those compartments need to be padded with something like felt, fleece, or other soft and thick fabric, so they don't get damaged by the box itself. I realize that 2" squares will make the board larger than your planer, so I definitely understand why you didn't make them that large, and making 32 compartments for the pieces takes a while, so I understand why you didn't do that, too. All in all, you did a great job and I look forward to your future projects! I make chessboard, too. I haven't posted most of them on my Etsy store, so watching your video has lit a fire under me to get things moving.
Love the detailed comment, and these are actually all items I had considered, but chose to omit for this board in particular. For one, I was making this board for my cousin, who is not a serious chess player, and knew he probably wouldn't want a board that was too large to put on a coffee table, for example. And two, I had considered doing felt/batting in the drawer, but he said he'd prefer it without. Another factor for not doing the segmented drawer spaces is that I didn't include pieces, so I wouldn't want the pieces he chose to be too large for the segments. I think when I finish up the next board, I would like to work with someone with a lathe to make some chess pieces, which I can then reference for the drawer segment sizes and be able to sell the board as a complete package. Anyways, I'm happy I could motivate you in your craft/business! That was definitely the over-arching theme here and I love you were able to have a positive takeaway from the video!
@@DeAngelisWoodcraft have you considered 3D printing chess pieces? I use four resin 3D printers to make some amazing pieces, which I also haven't posted for sale, unfortunately. If you wanted larger segments, you can make the drawer deeper and have a tray for a 2nd layer, keeping the colors separated, too. You can also make the segments not 90 degrees, so the bases can fit into a larger based trapezoid, and alternating the direction the pieces fit. And yeah, doing pieces on a lathe is a pretty good idea, except for the knight. Unfortunately that takes extra work, but done correctly is a really nice piece.
I have an extrusion 3D printer, but I wouldn’t want to make my pieces that way. I think it would throw off the whole theme and style of the piece
well done. i love the honest discussions around what you did well, errors, learning process, etc. Good luck with the next project!
Really appreciate the comment! It’s awesome to hear my dialogue resonating with people in the way I intended.
Good Job! Love the board.
