Danny was sad. RIP😢
Monster lick at @5:15
I love watching his hands, especially his right one... this man defies pigeon-holing. The Jackie Gleason Theme. (Jackie Gleason's composition, incidentally.) Done for Rednecks. Brilliant.
Top 10 of all guitarists all time! The videos are great but there is nothing like watching him live up close with that Heineken slide! I put down my guitar for a while after that show. RIP legend
Some awe some chop...only dannyized
Band is great, but Danny Wankon is a bore
You Loonie get some paxil
I am continually amazed and at the same time really disappointed that few jazz stations if any and especially jazz jocks do not include Danny Gatton in their musical and programming selections. He goes way...way beyond the way he is usually defined as a "blues" guitarist. As examples, listen to his version of CANADIAN SUNSET on his HOT ROD GUITAR: THE DANNY GATTON ANTHOLOGY album and his version of POINCIANA in the DANNY GATTON AT THE ROXY IN 88 - 04 album...and...POINCIANA is played often on jazz stations. Jazz lovers would love Danny's addition to their listening. I'm pretty sure they already know about him, and may be wondering why they rarely if ever hear him played. Hey, Steve Tyrell, Andy Bienstock, Rhonda Hamilton, Nicole Sweeney, and others, are you reading this??!!
You have to understand, most people are simple. Danny is not for everyone to comprehend.
I love the lead/rhythm combo Gatton's doing in the intro to take the a train
How many guitarists do reckon went out and bought a telecaster to sound like Danny .and after trying it out. The penny dropped
Beatifull vídeo thanks👍
Awesome thx!!
Sick playing!!
The first time I saw him was in 88 in a small club in lower Manhattan. I bought the album UNFINISHED BUSINESS on vinyl and got the tape ROCK CANDY my two favorite album's. He but on a great live show . R.I.P DANNY GATTON.
Damn! What a show. I saw Funhouse in Vienna, Va., in 1985 or so in a small bar, but there wasn't a big brass lineup like this, unfortunately. Fortunately, Danny kicked butt that night and even played through a Leslie. I spoke with him briefly once - he was a great guy.
merci !!
Wild Band !
Outstanding! Is that Previti on doghouse??
So great!!!!!!!
Great!!!!!
MISTER DANNY GATTON. THE ONLY.
Loved it! Thank you so much for uploading!
The singer (Ron Mcdonald) is a great guy who worked with Danny off and on for many years sinse the sixties, any singer who worked with Danny realized Danny was the draw and Ron also was the one to see to schedule a gig if you wanted to hire Danny Gatton for your club or wedding or whatever. Ron easy going and Danny really appreacated his efforts. I loved these shows at the Roxy they shine and are timeless. Also they were cool simple as that. What a true blessing to see Danny's funhouse thanks Danny and Ron and all the members of Funhouse!
Danny Gatton was/is the man; superb version of Poinciana...
Challenging company with Danny Gatton. Great song.
If only UA-cam would have been around in the 70's and 80's!
Good God - Danny running through his solo with a lit cigarette going on - too funny!
unconventional drumming to say the least
The drummer hasnt heard of ghost notes or dynamics :)
That’s a dumb ass statement great drummer most of that was done with one hand on the snare drum stupid comment
@@MeAndTheBoys_He's heard of a million different ways to snort a line of coke though..
This is Harlem Nocturne. Regardless, he is still the best guitarist of all time in my book.
+johnrules81 Actually, it's "Melancholy Serenade." "Harlem Nocturne" is a different tune, different composer. (Gatton has recorded that as well, however.)
+tuxguys You're right. Thanks for the correction.
Does this show feature as one uninterrupted video please?
I wonder where the guitarist got the Devils number though
As terrific as this is, I prefer his version on "Unfinished Business". The first 16 bars of his solo, he makes his guitar sound like a saxophone played by Cannonball Adderly. I've never heard so much funk come out of one man's guitar.
The studio solo really is fluid beyond the level mortal guitarists could dream of. On the other hand, I find the rhythm section and the mix on the studio version a little bland--it almost sounds like Gatton is playing over a karaoke track. But jesus, his guitar redeems it all.
a great musician, a true musical gem, greetings from Argentina! long live true music played with heart and soul
I've had this on cassette since 1993. What a fantastic find to see the video.
so long Danny! extraordinaire. Thanks...
Written by Jackie Gleason
i like kinda blue it roks
Phil Burlin is the othe Sax
the best
@jukeking1 Well Danny would say Lenny Breau probably, but they were like Picasso and Rembrandt....unsurpassed genius, who just played differently...Danny could do stuff that Lenny didn't and vice versa.... "Danny can play like everybody, but nobody can play like Danny"...Fair comment...one of his drummers said that he could hear God coming out of Danny's amplifier sometimes...I know what he is talking about.
EL MEJOR GUITARRISTA DE LA HISTORIA!!!
@callasexperience Paul Gilbert is quite aware of them i'm sure. They'd probably have appreciated each other's work mutually.
thanks 4 this add. Danny played a lot of stuff that other guitar players didn't, because he could. Makes me wish I could play now but at the same time, why bother? after litening to him !
If you want to hear Danny give the theme from Perry Mason a full treatment, check this out: watch?v=7Odief0dc1s
Only one guy could possibly hold his own with the genius of Danny Gatton in this genre and that is Scotty Anderson. Check out his' triple stop' album and you will see what I mean.
Ohh yeahhh! Wailing that sustain.. 5 stars plus John
2:17-2:24!
You know, for all the serious chops Danny Gatton had... All the complexity in his playing... technique and facility to do the things he did... The most awesome thing about his playing was that... It make you feel GOOD when you hear it! Danny Gatton Lives on! Thanks for posting these vids!
This was a great arrangement-impossible not to smile when you hear Danny's playing over this South American groove. We have to give a heap of thanks to Vernel Fournier and Ahmad Jamal for the template, but Danny had the vision to see how he could take an already-great arrangement that had nothing to do with "Nashville Telecaster" hot guitar playing and make it work beautifully with his approach.
Simply incredible!
Phenomenal !!! Love Danny G. this band is jumpin' too.. Thanx so much 4 sharin' !
Thanks for posting this. First time I've seen this video. I remember the Funhouse days.
