Testing Roman Szmal watercolors
I recently bought Roman Szmal watercolor and was impressed with the vibrancy and smooth application of the paints.

Heinrich loves experimenting with colour combinations, however, you don't have to use all these colours... You can use alternative colors, although the effect might not always be the same, due to the different hues, and consistencies of the paints. To substitute colors, you usually need to make blends of other colors.
When creating a pre-mix, use your discretion to add a little bit of pigment at a time, until you have the color mix you need. If you work wet-on-wet, your pigment ratios will be higher. With wet-on-dry, your mix should be more watery.

It's really difficult to paint on hot press paper as the colors are slide easily but i am also trying to do it and your vedio is really helpful sir
Thank you for your comment. I am so glad that you find the video helpful. Hot Press paper is challenging compared to CP. Just keep that paper nice and wet for the initial wash, and use what the color gives you. The rest of it should be easier after that🙂

I appreciate your kind comment. So glad that you find it useful. I used Arches CP 100% cotton for this painting. I use different brands of paper but always 100% cotton.

Is this normal watercolor,or spec. granulating?🍀
Potter's pink granulates quite a lot, but the only other additive was salt. The salt probably enhanced the effect of granulation of the Potter's pink.

I just purchased a tube of DS Potters Pink, was unsure how to use it, thank you for the tip
It is such a pleasure. It is a great pigment to use. Please be aware that Potters pink can be more difficult to activate than other pigments. Wet the paint thoroughly before using it.

What is a stencil brush? Is this a type of wc brush? Great video. Thank you.
Thank you. It is a brush with hard bristles that can be used in most mediums. I recommend using a strong good quality paper as the brisles can damage poor quality papers. There are a variety of brands that sell the brush. Here is a link to a stencil brush on Amazon which describes the brush better. I do not know the brand. a.co/d/aoKZDa2

For the record, even with the help of flow medium, it was totally impossible for me to get the waterfall effect. There definitely is a level of skill to this technique that isn’t beginner friendly.
I am sorry that the painting didn't work the way you wanted. Watercolour can be an unpredictable medium. There are many factors which influence the flow of the paint, and I was fortunate to have a very good day. This technique is quite interesting and can produce many different results, so please don't give up on it, try the technique again some other time. Thank you for your comment.
