EXTRAS
Heinrich loves experimenting with colour combinations, however, you don't have to use all these colours... You can use alternative colors, although the effect might not always be the same, due to the different hues, and consistencies of the paints. To substitute colors, you usually need to make blends of other colors.
When creating a pre-mix, use your discretion to add a little bit of pigment at a time, until you have the color mix you need. If you work wet-on-wet, your pigment ratios will be higher. With wet-on-dry, your mix should be more watery.

      I am so glad that you are inspired. Watercolor and canvas are not ideal. It does not absorb the moisture as well as watercolor paper. I know you get a ground from eg. Daniel Smith that makes it usable for watercolor. I have not tried it. I would recommend that you get watercolor paper. Cotton paper is better for me to work on but there is some artists that work well on cellulose paper. It all depends on what you paint.

      @doumkatekz If you look at the thumbnail, it shows clearly that I Heinrich Edgecome the artist, and my wife Dawn Edgecome narrated the video. It is beautifully shown in our photos. Believe me, UA-cam does proper checks before posting a video.

    Note to those who paint in arid climates: do *not* wait until the sheen is off, or the effects of the salt will be negligible. My paint begins to dry almost immediately after saturating the paper, so l must sprinkle salt asap. Try experimenting with degrees of wetness. Painters in, say, humid Britain can paint unconcernedly for up to five minutes before adding salt, and following their timeline is incredibly frustrating, until at one point l nearly gave up.

    • @OurWatercolourJourney
      @OurWatercolourJourney 13 днів тому

      Climate has an impact on the painting process. I do agree that everyone must adapt to their unique environment to determine when is the best time to do what you want to do. Thank you for sharing that information with the community

      @OurWatercolourJourney Thank *you* for your excellent tutorial. I realised you were likely painting from Britain when l resumed the video - l hope you didn't feel singled out by my example, though many watercolourists do hale from the UK - however l do feel a tad envious. :)

    • @OurWatercolourJourney
      @OurWatercolourJourney 12 днів тому

      @Bearwithme560 Thank you very muchDo not worry, I do understand wher you come from. I am glad that you mentioned that point, Each country and area is so differnet and every artist needs to adapt to different climate conditions. People do get frustrated when they do not get the same results as the original artist. I am from South Africa , but stayed for a eight years in South Korea. Climates are totally different, and one has to adapt to the different environments😊

    I love the building of layers, particularly using the quin gold and the final layers of rose madder then scarlet lake. Beautiful! I’m curious though; can I just start with a deeper red and then reduce number of layers and still achieve the same depth of color?

    • @OurWatercolourJourney
      @OurWatercolourJourney 14 днів тому

      Thank you for watching. I appreciate your question. Red is one of the most challenging colors in watercolor. They usually fade back a lot even though you use a deeper color. In this case I do not think you will get the fullness and complexity of color. The only way that you can possibly get something similar is by using the Ala prima technique where you mix a more complex color and go straight in with a much thicker consistency than you would using the regular layering technique.

    • @OurWatercolourJourney
      @OurWatercolourJourney 18 днів тому

      The sketch was drawn. I drew in the circles. In this cas I did not just want soft edged bokek circles. I applied masking fluid on the circles with a silicone brush. This brush is used by pastel artists to blend the pastel but works well to apply masking fluid as you can easily remove the masking fluid from the tip. You can use a old paint brush to apply the masking fluid. Remember to first cover the bristles of the brush with soap, dip it into the masking fluid and apply. Immediately after rinse of the masking fluid so that it does not harden on the bristles. When the masking fluid is dried you can start with the painting process. It usually takes just a couple of minutes to dry, depending on how thick you applied the masking fluid. It does not need to be a thick layer. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, you can ask.

      Watercolor painting is so much different from oil. I also used to paint in oil, but since discovering watercolor I do not think that I will go back. It is such a satisfying medium. It gets easier the more you do it. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for joining my channel. I hope it helps you in your watercolor process.
