This channel is geared towards riders who haven't been out exploring the surroundings. I have met many riders who’ve never been to Mexico, never been camping on their bikes or haven't really been on an adventure before. I will guide you through everything from preparing for your first moto camping trip, or preparing your documents for an international border crossing, to where to stop for a lookout and pit stop and maybe even have the drone follow us on a beautiful bridge while we cross it.

Ride to the MOA Rally in Redmond 2024
Day 1: Freeway Folly and Scenic Revelations
Our adventure began with the kind of ride that makes
you question every life decision that led you to this
moment: the I-5 freeway. Mundane as toast with no
butter, we slogged our way north, barely resisting
the siren call of fast food joints and truck stops. But
then, like a phoenix from the asphalt, we hit the 99
and eventually wound our way to the spectacular
Tioga Pass and Yosemite National Park. Suddenly,
our motorcycles roared with renewed vigor, and
our spirits lifted higher than Julito’s stories about
his days as a competitive unicyclist (don’t ask). We
ended our day in Bridgeport, CA, where the beds
were firm, and the snoring was epic.
We randomly ran into some of the South Coasters
who were seeking refuge from the wind and
rain at the campsite up the road. Howard and his
partner in crime, Willis were very excited to see
us and decided immediately to change their plans
and join our route to the rally. While it would be
an honor to ride with Howard, we had our reservations
about Willis and his recurring habit of
impromptu trip changes and bailing on the group
at a drop of a dime. We reluctantly agreed and
planned to have an 8:00AM KSU on one condition:
EMPTY BLADDERS & FULL TANKS
Willis understood the assignment!
Unfortunately, the next morning turned to be not
so great for Howard who decided to return home
to nurse a leg injury. Apologies were extended and
wounds were licked. We now had Willis to babysit
for the next 48 hours. Oh boy....
Day 2: Tahoe Twisties and Oregonian Overtures
Morning broke with a ride around the west side of
Lake Tahoe. The shimmering waters reflected our
excitement-or was it the glint from Bill’s shiny
helmet? Either way, it was a gorgeous day. We
stopped by at the Emerald Bay vista point where
I broke out the drone for an epic aerial shot of the
bay. I was abruptly approached by a park ranger
who politely asked to land the drone as it bothers
the local birds. Although, my FAA map clearly
marked the area safe and clear for flying, I obliged
and we got on with our travels. After conquering
Truckee, we barreled north, crossing into Oregon.
Klamath Falls welcomed us for the night, and we
rewarded ourselves with some much-deserved rest
and a debate on how much more can Willis annoy
us with his advance meal planning questions.
Day 3: Crater Lake and Coffee Zen
Our journey continued with a beautiful ride through
Oregon as we headed towards the rally. We had a
short day as we were only a couple of hundred miles
from the fairgrounds. Luckily, the south entrance of
Crater Lake National Park had recently opened up
and we pounced on the opportunity to pay a visit
to this stunning destination. The photos and videos
made our Instagram followers weep with envy. The
views were incredible and almost alien-like.
We savored coffee at the lodge, where we had a
tranquil moment gazing into the blue abyss, pondering
life’s great mysteries, like why Willis insists on
asking you about your next lunch, while still eating
lunch. We finally arrived at the MOA rally, checked
into our cozy Sherpa Packers’ tent, and met up with
the South Coast BMW riders at their chartered club
campsite. The food choices were excellent, and the
laughter was endless-mostly at Willis’ expense,
because, as abruptly he had joined our group and
simply jumped ship from the South Coasters, he decided
to continue on by himself when we realized
we were only 50 miles from the rally and just left
us as the gas station while we were still topping off.
We scratched our heads and chalked it up to “Willis
being Willis”, who we later witnessed at the rally,
being on the receiving end of a “firm talking to”
by the club president about his unacceptable group
riding manners.
The final leg of our journey was less about scenic beauty and more about
survival, as wildfires in the Los Padres National Forest forced us onto the
interstates. It was a long, hot slog, but we made it home with memories
of incredible rides, breathtaking views, and the enduring question of “are
we going to run into Willis on the way back?”
In the end, our motorcycle tour to the MOA rally was an epic blend of
mundane freeways, stunning national parks, and unforgettable camaraderie.
And as we park our bikes and dream of the next adventure, one thing’s
for sure: with Julito and

6-Day ride to Loreto, B.C.S, Mexico on motorcycles
I’ve read that you need a form to leave Mexiko by land, on the fmmd it only says point of entry, is there a different one for leaving by land as well?
I’ve planned a trip with a bus from Mexico to Belize and some friends told me I’d need the form to get through border control
There is no form needed to leave Mexico. The FMM has two halves. One they stamp and give back to you and one they keep. The one they give you is to verify when you entered Mexico and how long you’re staying.
@@goatmototours So if I’ll be arriving in Cancun by plane and leave to Belize by bus. When re entering by bus mexiko I’ll just put the date of the day I reenter and border location on the form? Thanks for the fast reply!
@@elias9502 You have a very specific question for a very specific travel itinerary, for which I am not qualified for. For additional clarification on your specific travel situation, please refer to your airline. My video is intended to inform travelers who visit Mexico on motorcycles via land and leave via land.
I have an upcoming Cancun vacation in a couple months. I filled out my family's and my FMM (Tourist) card online, but have been unable to download them. I receive the message, "Información No Encontrada" for each family member, but can do nothing further. Would you please assist? Thank you.
You can’t file for FMM if your arrival date is not within 30 days. The arrival date needs to be within 30 days on the FMM
Can I apply 48 days before trip? Or is it better to just apply at the border? What do you recommend?
The site won’t allow you to enter the date in if it’s past 30 days. I’ve tried and it won’t recognize the date is being valid
Do it within 30 days of your departure
Thank you so much!
Hello please do i need to file the FMM if I'm flying by air from Europe to Mexico?
Check with your airline please
Do I need this if I’m tracking by air?
Yes you do but the airline will handle that and it is now digitized. You should have gotten instructions on how to file your FMM online with the airline
Hello! I am on the site completing the registration. The nationality and country code doesnt give American /USA as an option. Can you clarify? Thank you.
Look for United States in Spanish which will be “Estados Unidos” or “estadounidense”
1:36 at this spot of the video you’ll see that I used USA as nationality and it is “estadounidense” from the drop down menu
@@goatmototours Thank you so much!!!
@@JJsJazzySpace Glad the video was helpful to you.
همینطور سالم و سر حال بمونید❤
I cannot open the URL of INM portal… It shows 500 Internal Server Error. Any good suggestion?
Server 500 is a problem on the server side, as opposed to a bad link. The link on the video is correct and resolved to the correct site. Here it is again. I've tried it and it works! www.inm.gob.mx/spublic/portal/inmex.html
@@goatmototours Thanks for your quick reply. I tried exactly the same URL in my office and at my home, both laptop and iPhone, but all failed. I even tried VPN routing from the US, failed too... I have to figure another way to get my FMM paid... By the way, can you help answer this question? If I have B1/B2 Visa of the United States, can I enter Mexico from San Diego without a Mexico Visa?
@@ASHUN-Fluid-Power Regardless of what visa you have from whatever country, as a NON-MEXICAN NATIONAL you are ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED to get a tourist permit when entering Mexico.
Can you pay for multiple FMM ( for different members of family including minors & spouse) with one account? Thanks
Good question. Never tried it but techinically it should be possible as you're pulling up the FMM number one at a time to pay for it. I've never had to do multiple ones but would be great to find out if it works. Please let me know.
@@goatmototours Guess, you are right.. just used my account to pay for myself and the kids..
That’s awesome. Thanks for letting me know. We all learned something new
How do I print the ffm form? Or is it given at the border? The only thing I received after filling out online is the payment confirmation.
You print the FMM after you fill it out. You get an email with your FMM as an attachment after filling out the FMM. You can print that or immediately after completing the FMM it allows you to print right from the screen. If you received a payment confirmation that means you entered your FMM number in the portal and it pulled up your FMM and you paid for it.
Got it! Thanks for your help!

Thanks for being part of it and making it a fun trip.
Thank you friend! you helped me.
Glad I could help! Safe travels.
VIDEO WAS SO HELPFUL
I’m glad you were able to use the info. Safe travels
This video tells folks how to fill this out for entry via land only. What about tourists who fly in?
You are absolutely correct, this video is solely geared towards land entry. Air travelers can fill out the electronic FMM which is a completely different process. I don't fly into Mexico and don't want to give you inaccurate info so I highly suggest searching for eFMM or digital FMM videos that explain that route.
Maybe this will help: ua-cam.com/video/w6YOjYj8W0Q/v-deo.html
This video also explains how to create an account, fill out and pay for the FMM electronically. ua-cam.com/video/Fe2fFmUaWfc/v-deo.html
In this video, I will guide you through preparing, creating an INM account, filling out the FMM form, and paying for it online. You'll be able to print it and take it to the border to get it stamped. THIS VIDEO IS MEANT FOR STAYING MORE THAN 7 DAYS IN MEXICO. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PAY $172 MXN (ARROX $42 USD) FOR THIS FMM. NO PAYMENT IS REQUIRED IF YOU ARE STAYING LESS THAN 7 DAYS IN MEXICO. Links: Create an account on the INM portal: www.inm.gob.mx/spublic/portal/inmex.html Apply for your FMM online www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/solicitud.html Pay for FMM online: www.inm.gob.mx/spublic/portal/inmex.html Baja Bound Mexican Insurance www.bajabound.com/quote/?r=96v6zupsa6
I paid for mine due to I am staying longer than 7 days. It made me go to the portal on the mexico government website and it doesnt let me download. Any suggestions. Please help :(
I have experienced that in the past that if the port entry date is more than 30 days away, it won't let you complete the FMM successfully. Maybe that is the issue? I've only been able to fill out and print am FMM if my entry date is within 30 days.
I wanna be like HS when I grow up!!
So how do you pay the fee at the border? This looks like you just prefilled the FMM. Usually you have to go to a building at the border, fill out the form in person and then pay.
You're right about every visitor requiring an entry stamp, but not every visitor requires payment. For example, if your visit lasts 7 days or less, no payment is needed. In comparison, if you're staying longer than 7 days and/or visiting mainland Mexico, the online FMM system asks you to pay for the FMM fee before printing it and and then fill out and print the TIP (vehicle import permit). I have never dealt with filling out forms or payment at the border as I try to get through there as fast as possible so I get everything done online and ahead of time but I assume you could spend extra time there to fill out forms and pay fees.
If you need additional info on how to get it stamped and enter Mexico, I made another video here for just that ua-cam.com/video/DSarKlti1lg/v-deo.html is where I get it stamped
I just did mine online n printed color cuz idk if is a big deal how to print it.
They really don’t care but I always print mine in color. Just in case there’s an issue with the fork they always have them there as well and you can fill another one out on the spot.
love this route one of my favorite
It’s so scenic and doesn’t even feel like it’s California
@@goatmototours i agree..ride safe👊🏍️🙏
Is there an advantage to a passport card over a passport ?
Besides the colossal weight saving 😂 If you don’t have Global Entry and crossing back into the US using a smaller border crossing like Tecate or Otay Mesa into California, you get to cut in front of the line and use the ready/express lanes, essentially making your border crossing last about 28 seconds.
@@goatmototours thanks for the reply! that seem advantageous for sure.
@@floydjaggy For sure! Border agents like those cards because it cuts their processing time in half.

In the meantime I highly recommend cutting over to the sea of Cortes to San Felipe from Ensenada via MX3 and taking the MX5 down to Chapala. It’s a lot more scenic and absolutely great roads. It’ll take you back to MX1 and you can continue south towards Guerrero Negro. You’ll get there around lunch time so go into town and find Señor Taco, it’s a small hole in the wall taco place but oh so good! Reach out to Paul and Bonnie at Ignacio Springs in San Ignacio. They rent yurts to sleep in and are both Canadian expats. Paul has a cool story about how he got the place. In Santa Rosalia there’s a cool town square to take photos of and a very good coffee shop right next to the town square called Coffeestar. Slick name! You’ll be very close to Loreto and it’s a nice town to spend an evening in. Great restaurants in front of the mission. The road from Loreto to La Paz is kinda boring so just white knuckle it through there and be sure to lock your stuff in the city. It’s a bit sketchy around the port area. Have fun and eat lots of fish tacos
@@goatmototours thanks a lot for these tips! I live near Ottawa, still cold here (-1C this morning) West coast will be way warmer!
@@goatmototoursHey bro great video, But we brazialians also can use this permit to travel there? By car or motocycle Thanks for the video! Obrigado pelo video!🇧🇷
@@maiconpenha7168thank you, yes everyone needs this to get into Mexico by car or by motorcycle or even by air.
Wow what a guide not one word said
Yeah those were my humble beginnings. You want words: go here. This video is a pretty decent guide: ua-cam.com/video/DSarKlti1lg/v-deo.html
Also to my defense, no where in the title or description say that this is a guide or ultimate tutorial on how to cross the border.
Hey, guy...great video. do you know if D5 is paved from Puertecitos to the intersection with D1?
Hey Guy… thanks. I rode from Lake Chapala back in October all the way to San Felipe and most of it was fresh blacktop and not a soul in sight. I think everything except the Darien Gap is paved all the way to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina 😂😂😂
You doing much off-road on these tours? Any longer Baja/Mexico trips planned for 2023?
I do off-roads on my own and by request. Most of my rides are pavement only because that's what the riders want. I have currently a short ride planned to Enseneda for the Beer Fest which is a weekender. Then in April I have a 10-day ride planned to Canada, visiting the beautiful city of Victoria, BC and in May I have a 21-day European tour planned to visit Germany, Italy, Croatia, Switzerland, Netherland, Scotland, Ireland and England. Once these three rides are completed I am planning a 21-day ride to mainland Mexico, CDMX, and a few surrounding provinces but haven't dedicated any time to it for now as my plate is pretty full with these three rides. All the info can be found on goatmototours.com Hopefully this answered your question or at least helped. Feel free to message me at henry@goatmototours.com with any questions or requests you may have.
Well done Henry!
Nice job Henry.
Very good amigo. Enjoyed the ride. Thanks for sharing.
Gracias amigo
Is that your voice for the commentary or did you use a program or app?
😂😂 I feel like this is a trick question and either way I’ll be incriminating myself
Hola Henry, thanks for the inspirational videos! Rode solo this past August from Ventura, Ca to La Paz, took the ferry to Mazatlan and then rode down to Puerto Vallarta. I am watching your video in Morelia right now having ridden here last week; I love traveling in Mexico by motorcycle. I ride a V-Strom 650 and its done well for me so far. My experience has been the drivers here drive better and more courteous than in California. I think the locals are so accustomed to driving in adverse conditions their driving skills are sharper. Thanks again!
Hola friend! Glad you liked the video. There's something magical about that Baja Ferry to Mazatlan. Those passenger partied all night lol. I did a similar loop to yours back in July 2020. In hindsight, I probably should have done it later in the year because I hit triple digits in parts of Baja, especially Between Loreto and Lapaz got really hot!!!! ♨But I truely enjoy riding mainland Mexico and it's really true what you say about drivers in Mexico . They embrace the idea that you're on an adventure, especially truck drivers and they make sure to give you room or signal you that it's safe to pass🚚🛻...really a great feeling being down there. Here's my cheesey video from that trip...I was very new to recording and made a lot of mistakes but was able to capture some stuff ua-cam.com/video/G8iRDJHcAjQ/v-deo.html
That is a wonderful area where you're staying right now. The city of Guanajuanto is absolutely magical and it seems like the Spaniards never left. Would love to see videos of you riding that area. I will be leading a group to Mainland Mexico later in 2023, after leading a ride to Canada in April and to Europe in May 2023.
@@goatmototours Have not gotten around to video recording my trips yet, suppose I should start by buying a GoPro. Visited Patzcuaro this morning, truly a magical place, may be moving from Puerto Vallarta to there soon to use as a home-base while continuing the journey!
Are you required to show your stamped FMM upon entry to the States? You didn't mention it further after you had it stamped upon entry to Mexico.
When you return to the states, the only document you need to worry about is your passport/passport card. The stamped FMM goes into your pouch until you leave Mexico and then you can dispose of it. Hope that helped.
@@goatmototours so it's not a required document? Very informative video BTW. :)
I am taking a group to Ensenada for the Ensenada Beer Fest in March. All includsive, all-expenses paid, wine, music, food and chauffeured van rides. Let me know if you're interested: goatmototours.com/ensenada-beer-fest-2023/
@@goatmototours sounds like a good time. Unfortunately, I'm unavailable in March.
I've seen elsewhere I need to pay a $30 non-resident fee if staying over 7 days, a $45 vehicle import stamp and a $400 deposit for the vehicle which I get back when I leave Mexico. Can you shed some light on this?
That is 100% accurate. When you travel to mainland Mexico and/or stay longer than 7 days, you need to purchase a temporary vehicle import permit (TIP) and as you mentioned, in addition to the fees, you will need to leave a deposit of $400, sort of a promissory note that you will export the vehicle from Mexico upon completion of your journey. You can get the TIP from Banjercito, the government agency that issues them, you can do it online and you will receive your deposit back when you return back to the US. The key is to stop by a Banjercito branch, usually before the border crossing, have them inspect the vehicle and take the VIN out of the system. Failing to do so will result in complications the next time you enter Mexico. Hope that helped. I will put together a video to cover the TIP, but it’s a pretty straight forward process.
You can order your TIP from here: www.banjercito.com.mx/registroVehiculos/#
@@goatmototours Thanks for the confirmation..

Looks like fun. Was this a day trip or a multi-day? Hoping to ride to Baja for the first time this year.
Thanks man. This was a weekend trip with a SoutherN California BMW Riders Club. We stayed in Ensenada Friday night, then headed over to San Felipe for some delicious fish tacos on Saturday and stayed in Tecate Saturday night. Went to wine tasting on Sunday and headed to the border later afternoon. I take groups down to Baja regularly. Hello, loce the video. I was wondering do I need an endorsement to be approved fo an fmm
Thank you Rodrigo. There is no endorsement needed. You can simply fill out the form online, print it, take it to Aduana at the border crossing to get it stamped and you're done. The entire process at the border takes 30 seconds. My only suggestion: make sure you print both parts of the FMM, both sides, left and right! They will then separate it at the border but they do need both parts when you approach the window. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else. I have another video that discusses just the FMM right here ua-cam.com/video/GIndwk0Drys/v-deo.html

Do you have to print the FMM form in colour or can it be black and white?
Honestly, I don’t remember seeing anything on their site that demands color but I’ve always printed it in color. There’s nothing on the form that needs color except the logo on top so I’m gonna go ahead and say B&W should be perfectly fine. As a matter of fact I’m headed down there in a week so I’ll print a B&W and if you don’t hear back from me that means I’ve been detained for not having colored form 😂😂

Hi Henry, Have heard rumors some Mexican insurer's will not pay claims if the owner does not have a Mexican drivers license, have you heard of claims being denied or reduced because of that? Thank you
Hi there. There may very well be some shady third-tier insurers who have slipped in a disclaimer deep in their small prints about that but when I get insurance for Mexico I use one of the top three reputable companies, those being either Chubb, Mapfre or HDI. Neither one of those have a claim about Mexican drivers license, which I don't even believe exists for tourists. Tourists may require to get an international driver's license, as it is mandatory in most European countries, but as a US citizen driving/riding in Mexico, your US (California in my case) license is always accepted, or at least on the Baja side it always has been. We recently had a mishap in our group and one of our riders crashed his bike close to Loreto, BCS. We were at least three days away from the border but luckily we were able to get bike back together so he could ride back up to the US. When he contacted his Mexican insurance provider, Chubb, he was told that he needs to have an agent inspect the bike while still in Mexico. They have a pretty strict protocol that needs to be followed before crossing the border in order to have a completed insurance claim. And yes, they did ask the rider for his FMM, the tourist permit, during the claim process. Other than that, no issues with driver's license. Hope that helped.
@@goatmototours That greatly helps, thank-you!!
