Good point! I need to buy a headset that I can put on my head, or bring a small tripod, so i can get the “during” application part. It’s hard to hold the camera, in a steady good shot, and apply the stucco mix, or paint for that matter, if i don’t have something to hold the camera. Also, this was on the fly, I didn’t plan on making a video that day, but the client was so impressed with another patch, on the backside of project, that I knew I had to shoot a little video on this patch. Hi Steve! You’re right! I am working on a new video, that is more concise, and gets straight to the point, while trying to be as descriptive and helpful to the viewer. I am in full agreement, with your comment, that it dragged on. It was my first attempt at a tutorial video, not bad for my first attempt, if I do say so myself. You’re correct, it’s almost like a skim coat on drywall. We’ve had great success with our patches / skim coats. Our clients love the end results, and have had no issues. Maybe, this is why… We prep wood, apply a high grade primer ( wood, stain killing primer ) Allow it to dry overnight, followed by the skim coat in video, allow that to dry overnight, followed by another coat of stain killing primer, allowed to dry overnight, and two coats of high quality paint. Hey Bobby! The product we used on that particular project is called crawfords, and we used water to thin down and smooth the patch with wet paint brush. We also use a product called MH Ready Patch. That product, we use mineral spirits / paint thinner, to smooth patch with brush dipped in mineral spirits. After the patches are dry, usually the next day, we use an exterior primer to seal patch, and then we’re ready for finish coats. I hope that helps. Have a great weekend!

Hey! Yes, this was exterior. I love this method! They’ve perfected the spray nozzle on the new cans, so that it sprays a very fine, spray fan pattern, instead of the old school cylindrical / cone spray pattern. I used to brush it on decades ago, now I spray when ever I can, with this, or a spray rig, with fine finish low pressure tip, if there’s several doors and frames to finish, I prefer an airless. Yes, I cleaned the surface first, with acetone, allowed it to dry up, then sanded with 220 sand paper. After sanding, I used a dust brush and a tack cloth to remove any fine particles left behind. I applied first coat, allowed to dry thoroughly, and sanded in between coats, with 240 grit, prior to last coat. Turned out great! I just did another one, interior and exterior, about 3 weeks ago. On the interior portion, I used a polyurethane, instead of the helmsman. The helmsman is strictly used for exterior, because it has much better protection against UV rays. 🤙
