In the works since Fall 2019, Passage is my Emerson College BFA Thesis film and one of the best experiences I've had working on a project. The story of a road trip I took this past June. Literally none of this music belongs to me, and no personal ad revenue will be made from this video. Director's Comments: This film is an unpolished, experimental documentary/video essay of a new style for us. It's far from perfect, but I needed to just finish it and get started on something else. Though this style of film is something I am intere...

This is my first narrative shot on Super 8mm film, following the first night on the job for a backstreet police detective and the choices he must make. Just watched this and Time Capsule. I can see you have worked hard on both of these films and I like your approach. Passage was hard to understand, but I've read the interpretations of what others thought was going on and they seem plausible to me. So well done on both films. I hope you keep it up, if you enjoy doing it. I'd say there must be so much to learn in this art. It will be a life long process for you. Good luck with it all and thanks for putting your films out there. It's a brave thing to do, cos you'll get all sorts of people knocking you. Just remember you are the one putting the hard work in. And I really think you are going at it the right way. Take care.

People seeing different drawings was a good idea. The pictograms being done by different people at different times flummoxed these so called palaeontologists but that can happen in caves used over millennia. I thought the father may have gone back in time.

I compliment the production and recognize the effort that went in to this project. I must admit that I am having trouble fully understanding the flow. I am not a artist like you so don’t have specific recommendations. Some additional depth to the plot or characters perhaps. But still a nicely assembled product.

My interpretation was that many different groups had at various times, studied the paintings and added to the wall as they got trapped, but since no skeletons around, the portal was accessed eventually by all the groups. It is them. Her dad went into a portal; the paintings were copies of what she drew in her youth. They followed him. They were the people they were discovering.

This reminded me of a book I read when I was verrry young. Got it in the gift shop in a Rosicrucian museum in northern CA. It described how someone studying ancient, pre-adamic I would call it now, cave paintings(?) /art and when you run your hands along the lines you are instantly immersed in the story as it was being expressed. Well, that’s confusing. Maybe someone will get it 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is quite a polished and professional project. My wife and I watched it last night and she enjoyed it as well -- she was a little confused immediately at the end but she found the concept very interesting and it sparked a good discussion. The camerawork and audio are excellent and it is both entertaining and thought provoking. I have some more thoughts about the organization/story if you want to hear them -- if so send me a message. But if not that's okay too -- sometime it's good to let a successful project breathe for awhile, and you certainly did a great job with this. I really like the sets/locations and what you did with lighting. Looking forward to your next project!

@@LukeRichert, 🔵 I guess if Bob Dylan can get away with it for all these years, you should be able to at least ONCE 'eh? I found it rather nebulous, devoid of clarification and without a clear premise. I couldn't tell where it was going,........ and then,... I didn't know where it went. The greater your viewers powers of imagination the more these "Open-ended-endings" become a curse & a bane, as a creative viewer you're never able to 'Tie-it-all-up' with any certainty!.... I prefer a nice tidy ending that stands-alone and makes a definitive statement, as opposed to one that requires either my participation or projection or leaves room for 'Decryption' or 'Translation'.
