Переглядів 2205 років тому
We take out the engine and transmission of the Firebird Formula Firehawk project car.
Can we go 9's with this project car for $8k? Lets take a look.
Переглядів 2505 років тому
We are looking into what the project car (1993 Pontiac Firebird Formula) has done to it, what we need to fix, what we need to add to break into the 9's in the 1/4 mile.

We have a $8000 budget to buy a car and go 9 sec in the 1/4 mile. Watch the build and find out if we can.

Great build!
Worlds greatest professor
man i woulda went with the gta motor
yea im building a raptor clone, found the perfect super cab 6.2 donor truck and then just went parts shopping, shes about 90% complete enough for ppl not to know it isnt real...lol
92 Firehawks are hard Top ONLY
Actually there is a white t-top firehawk that was made. Car #25
He gave up on the camaro because of clear coat problems ? What a loser
he paid $5,000 for the DECALS !! .... i think he got ripped off ??
You obviously didn't watch the video.
the ronals(or knockoffs) are a big part of what sell this car...this car is sexy
Are these wheels still available anywhere? Great job, car looks fantastic.
Hawks sells them but I think they are only available in 18's
Very good video, would even recommend it! However, it won't work for us, because we retired in a 30 motorhome in Idaho. Still, I managed to find an exceptionally clean 98 v6 Firebird, and dropped an ebay turbo in it. The idea was to build a modern version of the Rally Firebird. Meaning 18 inch redline, low profiles over 18 inch replicas of the chrome five spoke that came with so many Pontiacs in the 70's Total cost? 5500 so far, but the interior is still perfectly preserved!
Did the turbo die yet?
I wonder how you got the audio to be so terrible? Great build though.
I think my editing software did it. Was my first try at editing.
Cant wait to see future budget builds.
And I'm building an original 1992 SR-71 Blackbird Firebird so I know what it takes to build an actual Firebird
So in other words no you can't build your own Firehawk you might be able to build the body but you're not going to be able to put that motor and tranny in the car because that motor and tranny is outrageously expensive nice try though dude
Do u still have this car?
Yes I do. Recently made some upgrades on it.
What did you add to the car?
Tubular crossmember, longtube headers, renewed the engine out of the 93 firehawk drag car and installed it and put on the 3.5" mufflex exhaust.
Such a cool tribute 🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍
Awesome car !
Very cool video, thanks for sharing.
The ronal rims are worth it
Saw you Ben and this car at fastlane car show in 2018 and we chatted for a bit. I live in arnold now but would love to see this car again
It will be at firebird fest in May. Its in the garage torn apart getting upgrades right now.
Just seen this today I want one of these
Fake information. Dad bought me one in 92 when I turned 16 and they were only like 27 made the dealer said. I was sloshed prom night and wrapped it around a telephone pole
27 ordered 25 built.
@@budgetbuilds8522 Well u can subtract one from the number cause I crashed the piece of sh!+. But I walked away!
Awesome Formula!
That’s an awesome budget build! As close as you’ll probably ever get to an original 92 Firehawk. What’s funny is everyone in the comments thinking your trying to pass this off as an original Firehawk lol..
Yes I don't know why that is?
The car was worth more than $3,000.00 when you npygjt it; waaay more. You got lucky.
Thank you for doing an LT1 car. I own a 1995 Z28 convertible, and have been looking for shows that involve lt1s, but apparently everyone seems to be scared of them because of the optispart. Good luck with the car and the show, I will be watching.
Sounds like your trying to explain that this only cost 5k to your wife
Just wanted to show if you had a fixed budget with some creativity you can build something. Better than that budget. But yes it does sound just like that!
Amazing!
Outstanding what a beautiful car great job!
Thanks James. I'm a fan of Bond.
I have a 1988 pontiac trans am GTA
Super nice job I am guessing that is the slp exhaust on there? That brings back so many memories I had an 86 ta I did a rediculous engine with compucam and the slp exhaust back in high school it ran high 12 sec 1/4 my first time at the track in 96 now I have a 99ram air with a built ls1 that I am getting ready to take to the track this spring thank u for the video!
I custom built the exhaust to mimic the slp. I couldn't find a slp one available. Enjoy your bird at the track.
What happened ???
I have the drive train but the car was sold. Life got in the way of making more videos.
@@budgetbuilds8522 did you finish the drive train? and would you sell the 24x ?
@@bikestuff-k5s I am looking for a car for it to go into. The heads will be put on the 91 and the 91 heads will be put on this engine. It's going to be turbo. I will be using the 24x conversion for that build.
SLP performance but the original firehawk the sticker was over 40 k
Wow amazing build between you and your daughter awesome firehawk tribute 👍👍👍
Nicely done man!
Incredible work!!!
Nice job. I have three 3rd gens 86 IROC, 92 RS and a 86 Trans Am WS6. I'm working on my TA now. Nice car interior nice bad motor. I have tons of 3rd gen parts I've collected over the yrs from u pull junk yards.
way to say "i don't really wanna do this by myself" with your daughter standing right there implying she'll be of so little aid. shes not even worth an honorable mention. wow
i love all the interest in these cars. if you look around forums and fb groups a majority of people working with them are young guys ..a couple are not even old enough to drive them yet haha
firehawk rocks! 4 life dude. wish i had that car old school is the best
I have to look at yout craigslist. Gta with built drivetrain for 1600$ wow thats easy 5g around here
He started out at $5k. Listed the car as a firebird and couldn't get anyone to look at it. He couldn't get it to pass inspection and just wanted it gone. That was one of my best buys I have done. Haven't had one that good since.
Why does he sound like he is being cross examined? $5,000 is questionable.
$5000 budget but the time and the labor I’m sure would cost close to 15,000 to put that car all together like you did
Got that original PVC intake piping as well.
Yes the MAF is 3.5in and I couldn't get that size tubing in time for a drag night so I installed the th HD intake.(Home Depot). After that it just worked and I never did anything else. It is a firebird after all. The mullet inside me came out on that part.
Not digging the Firehawk clone, would have been cooler as a Formula sleeper
This car must snack on mustang 5.0's
Maybe 82-93 not the new ones
@@patientmental875 how much rear wheel horse power does yours have?
I Subscribed.... Cheers.
Awesome video. You inspire me. Thanks for sharing.
