This channel is for the Porsche 928 enthusiasts. I am not a mechanic, so please consult a mechanic before doing any work on your car. These videos show the work that I have done on my 1983 Porsche 928S, so please consult a mechanic because procedures and wiring differ for each model year. Like most 928 owners, I would like to keep this classic running for as long as possible. I have taken a car with multiple issues, including a no start, and brought it back to road worthiness. I have spent countless hours taking it apart, researching it, and putting it back together again. In doing so, I have learned a lot and will be sharing that knowledge with other 928 owners so that they too may keep their cars running for as long as possible.

Hello, "CarCrazy 928" I saw your channel and saw that in your channel have some problems, not many. For these problems your channel is not growing. If you can solve these problems, Your channel will grow like a storm. Do you want to know these problem? If you Want to know, I can only tell to you. Can I tell here or email?
Thanks for the Video
You're welcome
That is amazing,I bet lots of 928 owners haven’t checked that area (I’m one) and I have owned mine for 16yrs Very good video, and my problems are electrical I know in my ownership my car has never seen rain, and it is immaculate, but will keep at it I have the conversion for the 6.0 LT engine etc👍
Thanks for checking out the video and good luck with the conversion.
That’s your resistor pack for the heater. You can change the pin output so the blower isn’t always “on”. Go to Rennlist and type in resistor pack mod.
That’s not from the factory, that’s from a mouse or chipmunk making a home. Clean all of that out and wipe everything down well.
I think you installed it incorrectly. Holes should have stayed in the inside.
Thanks. You may be right. I followed the positioning of the one that I took out.
My mechanic noticed corrosion on the small wire. New Starter couldn’t start. So he crimp a connector wire and the Starter started. Corroded wire ( I’m in Canada, weather sucks).
Why are your notifications for your videos turned off .
Thanks. I'll fix that.
How tight did you go with the cover bolts? Did you need to torque to any spec? I realize it would be hard to get any wrench in there.
There is another sound coming from your engine in this video, a higher pitched sort of metallic sound. Did you happen to figure out the source? Mine is making an identical sound and i am trying to figure it out.
Hello and thank you for checking out the video. That high pitched sound was coming from my auxiliary air control valve. ua-cam.com/video/Hw3_PHCp3LU/v-deo.html
Great video. It's always a simple job , turns into a problematic situation. 😊. Mine is a 1982, 928
Did you get a VO artist?
Hi. No need to. I used Capcut to redo the audio track.
Thanks. Changing my 928 clutch and couldn’t believe the starter is held on by just 2 bolts on one end of it because it weighs a lot!
How did you fix the headlights from popping up?
Hi. It turns out that the wiring for the '83 and '85 is a little different, so I had to replace the '85 motor with a 1984. Now everything is working.
Can you do a video on the AC/alternator/power steering belt changes
I know what is. Ask me how I know. It’s the rear coupler splines and the shaft splines fretting. You will have to pull the torque tube. Either the coupler splines, shaft splines or both are worn. You can try tightening the the rear clamp bolt and retightening but not likely going to help. Check tube bearings and input bearing while your there. It’s not going to go away until you fix it. Dreading the job is worst part. If I can help let me know.
Thank you for the info. I did loosen and retighten the rear bolt and the sound went away. After a day or so, the sound came back but not as loud. The torque tube bearings seem fine but, as you mentioned, I will have to pull the tube to see what is going on with the splines.
Do I need to flush the system afterwards.
I didn't need to do a flush at this time. The car was sitting for 17 years, so when I bought it, I replaced all the fluids and oils. With this job, I just replaced what was lost while replacing the sensor.
I have 3 wires but my starter don’t have the outer bolt so i don’t know where to put the 3rd wire
Its not a pump ist a air valve. It must close slowly after start. In it is a bimetall and heat- resistant. Conekt 12V to it for test then it must slowly close.
Thanks for the info.
0:33 Replace all of those ceramic fuses, looks like you already have a few that are broken.
Yes. All new fuses were used.
P r o m o s m 🎉
Can you do a video on replacing the ignition switch? With or without removing the instrument cluster?
omg i recently did this and I had to do some terrible nonsense the next owner is going to hate... but, all the lights work and the odometer is correct so... win?
I would say that was a win. I'm still working on other electrical problems.
Brown is ground good old diagramsdiagrams in current flow
Looks good
Can you do a video on transmission mounts?
Hello @RealDataPointGuy . I posted a video that may help with your project. Good luck and keep watching.
I have a 1980 Porsche 928 - it has a Temp Sensor II just as your 928 has. Can you show how to remove it? the temperature gauge on my instrument cluster doesn't work and the forums say it's probably a bad Temp Sensor II. the Temp Senor II is right behind the Temp Sensor you show in the video. The Temp Sensor II has the two wires coming out of it. i tried a 19mm socket but couldnt get the socket onto it.
How did you remove the motor? I removed the 3.bolts.and the 1 center bolt but the motor is stuck.between the fender panel and the radiator area
I will locate some clips that may help.
You'd better be a good electrical diagnostician for a 928. I know, having two and converting one to a successful racecar. I recall like over 50 relays, mounted under the heater core in the passenger footwell. Hundreds of pages, in fact, a whole book in the shop manuals. Many of the circuits made no sense at all with unrelated systems intertwined and inoperable if something was faulty..Lovely limp home mode that activated on a whim and a timing belt warning that worked with nothing wrong an didn't when something was wrong. I loved my 928s despite the flaws.
I agree. I love the car, but the electrical problems are numerous especially when the car is this old.
😀 Promo SM
Awesome video! It would be awesome if you could do a video on how to adjust the accelerator cables to reduce slack in the accelerator
Thanks. I do have some clips on that. I will post it once I track it down.
I was wondering, did you use a fuse puller or how did you get them out? Also how did you remove the fuse holder with the corroded terminals?
Hello. A fuse puller was not needed. I used a pair of needle nose pliers.
@@carcrazy9288 I realise that was a but of a stupid comment of mine, think I meant a relay puller. Got myself a relay puller anyway, chinese ones are not expensive.
Did you have lower temperatures after your upgrade?
Absolutely. The temperature went to and stayed at the correct level.
Awesome knowledge 👏
👍
Awesome. Plz show video of installation and or start up. I had a similar experience. Mine is a 1992
I just bought a 1981 928 5 speed. This is going to be my first project. Where did you source the fuses, relays, etc? Great video thx!
Your local Advance Auto Parts store should have them. They can also order them for you.
@@carcrazy9288 thx. I'm going to begin with the fuse and relay panel.
Unless I’m missing something, shouldn’t you apply voltage across 85 and 86 to activate the relay (and hear click)?
Hi. Since I was only using the two prongs from my 12v battery, +12 volts goes to pin 30. Pin 86 is usually a switched 12v with key on so you can also apply power. I then grounded pin 85 with the ground lead from the battery.
How many people to lift off the hatch is needed?
Two to be on the safe side, but I was able to lift it off by myself.
Did you have to disconnect the fuel in any way?
Yes. I did disconnect the fuel to be on the safe side.
I acquired this 928. I’ll be posting videos on it on my channel.
Nice. I would have snatched it myself if they had the title.
Nice work
Thanks
Auto trans ?
Yes. It's an auto.
Run and fast! Whatever you think it will cost to bring up to spec, at least double it. But, it would be nice to see it being something other than a parts car and back on the road. Sadly so many of these are just junked because of the high cost of maintainence. They are actually very reliable so long as they have been correctly maintained from day 1. I have owned a 928 S4 for about 10 years., and have had minimal trouble. It has been dealer serviced from new. Has about 63,000 miles. I live in NZ where the parts prices are amoungst the highest in the world. Lucky I can import from USA where they are about the cheapest!
The color alone would’ve been worth saving if original
Very impressive restoration!
Thank you very much!
If you have the experience, I would say “go for it”. For anyone else, “run from it”.

Wow, what a labor of LOVE!!!!
Thanks. I enjoyed bringing it back to life.
Did u fix the vaccum leak? I have the same sound at the same spot. Thanks!
Yes. It was coming from one of the fuel injectors. I was able to fix it by replacing the problematic one.
Where is this car? The first 928 I ever saw and sat in, looks just like this car! Well, same spec anyway, the one I saw was brand new!
This car was in Port Chester NY and sold to another buyer. I regret not getting it.
