    Also, where your shoulders are concerned, think of hitting like boxing. I.e. for example here, hitting line shots. You want to rotate your shoulders to where they are parallel to the net. Your chest should be pointing in the direction you want to hit (I.e. don't face the opposing back corner for angle and try to hit line w/o rotating). You don't want to do the cross body arm shot...it's the equivalent of arm punching in boxing; you will get reduced power. Lastly, if you are going to hit line, aim for/try to paint that sideline. Those are hard to judge in/out by the defender and are just as difficult to dig, esp when the defender is out of position.

    This is where I will suggest what I would suggest to every single team out there, regardless of proficiency: PASS BETTER! Your team will live or die, almost singlehandedly by how well you serve-receive. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done immediately about the net serve rule, which IMO was the dumbest rule addition to volleyball, in its history, behind the addition of the Libero (when the back row spec already existed). There is little that can be done when companies pay large sums of money for sports organizations to use poorly designed equipment (I.e. the Molten super touch ball the NCAA has to use, absolutely sucks dirty backside). Now, if a pass goes awry, the setter should already have worked out an area where, anything within that area the setter will still get. If it goes outside that area, then this person will get, or another designated person who didn't pass it to begin with. On those plays, OHs should understand that the set may not be optimal and to swing at/put the ball over to the other side, a little more smartly and a little less aggressively.

    Hitter number 1, good job. Correct, straight up the sideline approach, feet are about a 45 degree angle to the net, and shoulders are squared to allow him to hit a line shot with power. Hitters 2 (number 7) and esp hitter 3. You are starting your approach too far out. Right foot should be on the sideline, no farther to the left. Your feet are also pointing at the right sideline/perpedicular to the net. Your feet should be between 30 and 45 degrees open to the net, not 90. That's why you have poor form and are doing the cross body arm swing to hit line, more so #10 than #7. If I were a coach of the other team, I'd tell my block to seal up your angle and sharp angle and force you to hit that reduced power line shot, especially with those telegraphed approaches. Whoever coached you to have your shoulders that open to the setter on outside hits, did you a disservice.

    • @volleyballcompass
      @volleyballcompass Місяць тому

      Sounds like you have a timing problem. Work on the approach and jump, so that your height is maximum and always the same. Then you will improve the timing, when focussing of being at the heighest point when spiking the ball...

    Hi Martin, great video. Which rotation would you say is best for a team that generally doesn't pass well? Would this be a good one since there are 3 front row hitters and they can all hit from their assigned positions? This would give the setter the most options even if he has to fix some bad passes, right?

  • @erwanlemoal8286
    @erwanlemoal8286 8 місяців тому

    My setters are the weak spot of the team block and my opposite are quite useless from behind, so I will avoid this position ! 😅

  • @JacopoBasanisi
    @JacopoBasanisi 8 місяців тому

    Thank you! I usually avoid starting 4 not because of the 2 attackers or the distance to run, but because of the burden to OH2. Never considered the advantages of having opposite right away tho

    • @CoachMark_VB
      @CoachMark_VB 8 місяців тому

      depending on match-ups, but my default is setter in VI. eliminates the opposite and OH hitting on their un-natural side of the court to begin the game

  • @JacopoBasanisi
    @JacopoBasanisi 8 місяців тому

    Interesting, but then what position would you suggest to start with? Would be interesting to watch future video on that

  • @erwanlemoal8286
    @erwanlemoal8286 8 місяців тому

    I always start with setter in position 1. More solutions in the front line, and my players are used to this. Less pressure on the shoulders of the outside hitter on the front row, it 's giving him time to enter the game before being the main spiker (my opposite on the back row isn't a major threat...). I think on low levels and with young players, it's the best solution...

    I like to do 2-on-2 tennis (so still only 1 contact per team) but both teams have extra ball they hold within the field and can not drop. So if the opponent bumps the ball to player with the ball on the other side, this player will first have to toss the ball they're holding to their teammate on the court. After passing they switch out of course. Very dynamic and communicatively challenging!
