The Ultimate Topwater Fly - Sipper Fly Tying Tutorial
The Sipper does it all. Wakes, Chugs, Pops and most importantly it catches fish. With the unique head design this allows you to fish a topwater where the fish can actually see the full baitfish profile subsurface. It has characteristics of a gurgler, a popper and a diver. You can scale this tie to match any size baitfish for your area or target species.
Use slow short constant twitches for a waking action to simulate a dying baitfish or use long aggressive strips for a popper and diver style action.
Redfish, Jacks, Snook, Bass and Juvenile Tarpon all love this fly. Tag us on Instagram with your Sippers and what they catch - @spacecoastflies

Astro Shrimp Fly Tying Tutorial (Fast Version)
Can’t believe I’m finding this video now, AFTER attempting a dozen of them 😂
😂😂😂 better late than never
Topwater is the plan for this morning! That's all I'm carrying. Great video, as usual
Great color combination
Come back to us
We are working on a new series of tutorials to come out very soon.
Could you make it weedless?
Absolutely. You can add a hard mono weedguard or a mono loop.
Thank you for sharing. I love gurglers, and this seems like an improvement! Great design.
Thank you. Gurglers are on of our favorite flies and we still fish them regularly. We made this Sipper so the fish actually sees a real baitfish profile slightly below the surface. Possibly helps when they have commitment issues :)
Nice job 👍 I'll be trying it out
Ohh yeah one after the other fun times I say
It's a nice 👍 fly
Well done, sir.
You have great technique
Please do a tying tutorial!!!! thank you great pattern!
I've tied a couple of these now and understand it a little better. Tail is knotted chenille threaded through foam, then the foam is super glued. The body is either orange foam or orange chenille underneath and white/pearl chenille on top, with white microchenille legs tied in like a pat's rubberleg. You can see straight through the white chenille. The whiskers, I have no clue. They might be cdc.
hell yea man nice video, cant wait to try this out.
Nice
What width do you cut the foam for the different versions?
Beautiful..
Keep up your content
Love the water this fly pushes, but I made 4 of these, and all 4 lasted 2-4 fish, and the foam snapped nearest the eye. What type of foam would y'all recommend? I fish primarily for striped bass and bluefish. All 4 were decent-sized flies, 2/0, about 4" long, maybe 8mm foam when glued.
Sounds like you have had success for sure. I use mainly high density EVA foam normally . I have made a more stout version using cross cut foam same thickness (8mm) from rainys. It’s stiffer and might be better for those blues with teeth.
Be good for Peas
Sweet
Nice ty. Could you please recommend a hook in the Gamakatsu or Ahrex range as I can’t seem to find your hook pattern in Australia? Thanks
Gamakatsu SL12s in size 1 or 1/0
Great looking fly. I will have to tie some up for my trip to the keys in May . Thanks for sharing
Thanks! Good luck on the trip and let us know how they work for you.
What is the glue for paste the eva foam ( two colours diferents ) i use uno glue but break , because is very cristalitze
We just use a thin coat of loctite water resistant super glue gel. It does not take much. Also you only really need to glue the head part together. The body stay together since it’s tied in.
I am a recent subscriber and watched, and tied along with, the Sipper video and fished it. My guide wanted one because it brought in jacks. I enjoyed this one and am going to tie a couple of these and try them out.
Glad the sipper worked well for you! What area were you fishing for Jacks?
@@SpaceCoastFlies St. Lucie/Stuart.
I look forward to try tying one of these. I bet spotted bass on the coosa would tear these up. Peter at Lost Angler Fly shop had mentioned to me about your space coast Fly's in the past I do believe. I'm from Satsuma and I would love to set down and tie with you sometime. Cool looking fly.
Thank you. I'm sure the Spots would eat them up. The Largemouth and Striper have been loving them too.
Great patterns, you are an artist
Very nice short video and fly
What brush is that? EP 2in shrimp brush?
Hareline Wire Free Fox Brush. It’s a very cheap craft fur like brush. We have lots of color options on our site.
Reminiscent of a red fish crack!
Yep. Very similar steps, just downsized and colored for pompano. More movement in this head brush than normal crack flies also.
@@SpaceCoastFlies man someday I have to head down to Florida and do some permit fishing!
Great looking pattern. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for watching 🪐
What a great idea! I wish I would have thought of this. Innovative fly tying that solves a problem. I like how you think.
We really need a video on how to tie this!!!
GSP for thread instead of waxed.
Really cool pattern and looks great moving in the water. This fly will definitely be going to Belize with me in hopes of meeting some of the natives there! Thanks.
Very nice pattern!
Tying some for Stripers
Absolutely awesome I'm getting up to toe this look out snook
Nice dirty water redfish fly. Tip: don't wear a black shirt when tying with black or dark materials. Definitely will tie some of these.
Thanks 🪐 We have done very well in Redfish and Black Drum in stained and clear water with this pattern. Surprisingly it has produced quite a few Juvenile Tarpon as well.
Awesome video! Is that an axiom ii x rod?
Sure is
@SpaceCoastFlies Alright, I've been thinking about buying one lately, how far and accurate of a cast can you make with it?
@@callenarmbruster4168 I would recommend taking a look at the new Blitz model. Slightly slower than the axiom2x (which is extra fast). It has the power of the axiom but more feel.
Nice video but skip the music please.
Turn down the volume if you don't care for it. Strange name for someone so soft. 😂
Suuuuper cool!!
Thank you 🪐
You guys are one of my favorite channels on YT❤
Nice pattern for jacks. I will try some out in a couple of different color schemes. Thanks for a good video.
@@edwardmlotkiewicz2343 The jacks definitely love them!
Really enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks for making the video. I can't wait to tie some up.
Glad you liked it. Can’t wait to see everyone’s color combos and variations.
I know I will be tying a ton of these 😅
Wow that action is incredible with the aggressive strips!
Thanks. It definitely has some wild action when it dives.
That stop and wiggle 😮
Nice video. Btw, what kinda fly reel is that?
It’s a Kapusta custom. He’s in the Keys and only makes a handful a year. Amazing work.
Awesome tie! I might tie this for striped bass but in different colors to imitate the bunker that stripers hunt during the fall run here in NJ
Great idea. Let us know how it goes!
Nice tye !
Thank you 🪐
Great dirty water color and a great pattern
How long till we see a how to on this bad boy.
How do you fish this? With a sink tip fly line or do/can you use a floating fly line? Thanks!
We fish this primarily on a floating line
Good day sir, any way we can get a full video with materials on this? Thank you much
We plan on doing some more full videos soon. The materials in order are: cactus chenille, water silk fiber (tail), flash, super kraken dubbing, 1.5” foxy brush, foam, 1” tarantula brush. Hope this helps in the meantime! We have another gurgler tutorial full length on our page also. Thanks!
Sorry, I meant .5” wooly critter brush. Not tarantula. Although you could use either. I just like the longer legs on the wooly critter.
Thank you sir!!!
