Cold National Rally

The Ride to Redmond MOA National Rally was held in Redmond Oregon in June 2024. In this video, my friends and I ride to Redmond and enjoy the event's entertainment, vendors, and seminars. I nearly froze. To get home, I borrowed a vest from a friend otherwise I would have been hypothermic before getting home. Note to self - always be prepared for cold weather.
Willowa Valley ADV Jamboree
Переглядів 389Місяць тому
Adventure motorcycle rides out of Willowa Valley are fantastic. Featured rides include Hess Road into Hell's Canyon, Hat Point Overlook, and the Camp Creek Cut-off road from Zumwalt Prairie to Imnaha. I also give you a little taste of the ADV Jamboree headed out of the Log House RV Park near Enterprise, OR.

In this video, I interview Mike Larson, a leading member of the NMRM National Motorcycle Riders Memorial Association. It is a moving and beautiful experience to visit the memorial and think of the close friends, family members, and loved ones you've lost over the years. In this video, we camp at Shelton Wayside Campground south of Fossil, Or, and ride the dirt, gravel, and paved roads in the north-central region of Oregon. The trip's highlight was the route from Twickenham to Priest Hole, Muddy Road, Muddy Road Creek Crossing, Cold Camp Road, and Highway 218 to Fossil.
High Valley

In this video, I ride to the High Valley Guard Station and quickly get out of there as the storm rolls in. After that, I ride to Paddock Reservoir Dam. This video shows pretty well what the road down to the dam is like.

In this video, the Idaho Adventure Motorcycle Club takes a gravel road ride to the old Mayfield Dance Hall, Canyon Creek Station, Anderson Ranch Dam, Y-Stop General Store, and Danskin staging area. We enjoyed good food and conversation at the Y-Stop. Remarkably, our group had no crashes, breakdowns, or flats.

    Thanks for sharing this. Going to be photographing riders here at Touratech Rally 2024 and wanted to get a feel for the best photo opps on the course. Sand and log section might be the spot. Looks tight!

      Last year there were several turns where I had to stop and back up to make the turn on my 890. It'll be challenging to get through the sand section without dabbing and riders will be using a lot of "style" to keep upright. Great place for photos.

    Thanks for sharing the ride. I've never been to Leslie Gulch or Birch Ranch area when the water level was that high. I have been on the other side near Watson when the water was high but not the east side. Great destination ride for sure. Back in the olden days (pre-covid) I would rarely see anyone camped at Succor Creek CG. Now you see a lot of folks camped there. Question for you, are you allowed to ride on the west side if you cross the ford near Birch? I thought about it once coming up from Griffith Ranch but was sure you are allowed. Of course I never researched it but just curious if you know. Thanks again for sharing your video.

    Wonderful area. Glad I found your channel. In fact, my group of 4 (3 guys from Barcelona, and I from the Basque border on the French side, but living in Seattle) are coming through your area twice over a few days. On 6/12, we will be arriving from Bend through Burns and staying one night in Boise, and again on the 15th, we will arrive from Lolo Pass and stopping in Baker City. I was wondering if I could email or text you for advice on which route to take. Please, let me know.

      @@danielhuffadventures5989 Hi. Thanks for answering. We will be mostly on pavement but will try to get FSRs and other dirt roads here and there are we make our way to Yellowstone and back. Seattle, Mt Rainier loop, Oregon Coast to Dune City Or, either the Umpqa valley or the McKenzie route to Bend, Boise area, Jackson, Wy, Yellowstone, Lolo Pass, Oxbow, Baker City, Sumpter and the Columbia gorge before heading back to Seattle. It's a loose plan. I'd love to take the time to see places like Timber Gulch. Any advice for your area? The plan is pretty loose of course. But since we'll start on the 9th, we should have pretty good conditions.

    Thank you for this video! I keep going back and forth to which tire I want to put on the back of my DR 650? This GPS or the tractionator adventure? I also live in Washington so I have to consider a fair amount of mud. Does the GPS shed the sticky stuff fairly well?

    It should be relatively easy to add a reed valve to that motor. Possibly one of the old Pabatco 100cc kits could be adapted. A 22 to 24mm Mikuni would be just right. A custom trials exhaust would be the finishing touch. Then this bike would pull down low like the TY175 that snuck into the video. I built my first Hodaka trials bike in 1974. Then in 1994 I built a replica of that bike and competed in AHRMA and STRA events in the Southeast.

    • @danielhuffadventures5989
      @danielhuffadventures5989 8 місяців тому

      The vest works okay. The orange light for medium is a bit hard for me to distinguish from the red light for high. The button is on the vest on the left side at my upper chest and sticks out enough to work with gloves on. I learned the other day that a thin t-shirt under the vest is not enough protection for the skin when running the vest on medium; had a hot spot on the back that got uncomfortable.
